From what I've heard/seen it seems players that start out with roller hockey have better puck handling skills and offensive skills while ice players are better defensively and a lot stronger.

Just some things I've seen playing ice and roller hockey as a goalie for a few years. I don't know how consistent that is around the country is though

I read a lot of comments here and while Ice is the prefered game to play. Dont knock a good roller hockey player. I have seen some very talented players that I enjoyed watching emensly. I played ice my entire life and i am gratefull for that. they are both very different yet they also contain many of the same elements. Roller will probably get bigger than Ice on an amature level at least. It can be played anywhere. This roller hockey might help hockey evolve where Ice could not

I played Minor League Ice Hockey back in the day when it was really tough the early 1980s.

Hockey was a lot tougher then. Todays game is much more gentle and loving lol makes me sick to see how soft the game has become. Thank God I never played like a wimp

Note you said Minor league game. the minor leagers still play that style but since betteman the commissioner of the NHl it has gotton softer no doubt about it. For many it is a better game for those of us who grew up with the pre lockout style it isnt the same. No but one thing is for certain you can gain a great deal of skill playing all day on roller blades and then playing Ice also. No doubt about that. there is a very strong similarity of tasks and the skills learned stickhandling hand eye coordination definitly transfers over to the ice
