  • such a beautiful song i love it DC4D is so amazing!

  • so beautiful

  • I think this could be how it was in the original demo. Ben has said it was origionally a major key piano songs that was a mix of George Harrison's "Isn't it a pity" and The Band's "The Night they Drove Ole Dixie Down" and it sounds like both of them

  • He is what great music is all about.

  • happy birthday big guy

  • jason mcgerr great drummer Mr gibbard amazing vocalist and songwriter death cab is just ful of amazment

  • favorite songwriter

  • this song is exactly how im feeling at the moment =/

thank you Mr. Gibbard! Your songs help me a lot

  • ben gibbard please go on tour again.

  • You are Amazing Ben.

  • how does he do it? im about to explode!

  • Fave song ever. :)

  • Love it <3

  • Hell Yea Im from Somerville- Eastville for Life Son! 617!!!

  • same...more ben gibbard the better

  • I tunes did an accidental release i believe about a week before the cd came out, and I listened to the sample and it was this version. I dont know about anyone else but I like this version better

  • I love this song... its awesome

  • the album song doesnt sound anything like this. these are major chords. in the album its minor chords and its an acoustic guitar song

  • This is how Gibbard wrote it and Chris Walla later took out the piano and wrote new music under it and totally reworked the song for the record.

  • you mean its clean electric guitar in the studio version.

  • I can't possibly understand why.

  • Haha.

  • now that's just stupid.

  • Has anyone else noticed that this is pretty much 'Different Names For The Same Thing' with different words and a different key?! The entire song I'm waiting for him to go into the 'D.N.F.T.S.T.' chorus. Nice, Ben. I still love it tho.

  • haha me too! at first i thought he added different lyrics to the song, and then Narrow stairs came out.

  • It does sound like 'Different Names for the Same Thing'. Weird.

  • Cant wait for narrow stairs to come out,

    love you death cab :]

  • plans and transatlanticism are by far the best.

  • how in the hell could you possibly rate trans and plans over whtf? you're crazy! Ben even said he didn't like plans. I dare you to listen to it from title track to scientist studies and tell me it is not a better album.

  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about what is their best album and what is not. I believe this so strongly that I won't even say which album is my favorite. Though the temptation is difficult to resist.

  • where did he say he didnt like plans?

    and plans is my favorite.

and yes i've been listening to them since trans.

  • American songwriter magazine

  • Did he just straight out say he didn't like the record? The only thing I remember him saying about the record that was negative was that you couldn't just sit in a room full of guitars and play and that plans wasn't straightforward. Seriously, what an amazing album(excluding different names)

  • ladies, ladies please...

clearly the albums rate as follows:

    1. photo album

    2. transatlantacism

    3. plans

    4. We have the facts

    5. songs w chords

    6. something about airplanes

But in all honesty, his work with postal service probably fits right in behind transatlantacism and in front of plans

  • That is the exact order I would have put them in!

  • 1. Transatlanticism

    2. The Photo Album

    3. We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes

    4. Plans

    5. Something About Airplanes

    6. You Can Play These Songs With Chords

    final word :)

  • ive heard about 5 or six from narrow stairs already and i feel so bad i wanna be suprised >=[

    iam stupid lol

    ive heard

    1.the ice is getting thinner

    2.cath

    3.Pity and Fear

    4.bixby canyon bridge

    5.I will posses your heart

    6.talking bird

    =[

  • his voice is so indescribable.

  • narrow stairs NOW.

  • no offense but anyone that thinks Plans was their best album should be forced fed their first born.

1.Photo Album - We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes (tie)

    2.Transatlanticism

    3.Something About Airplanes

4.You Can Play These Songs With Chords

    5.Plans

no more discussion. this is exactly how they are rated.

  • Could not have called it better myself.

  • i def. agree with your rankings.

  • ALL of their albums are fucking great but i feel they hit their best on Transatlanticism and Plans and hopefully Narrow Stairs will be as great as those two also

  • Don't forget the Photo album, that's the best along with Transatlanticism from my point of view

  • different names for the same song. But like PhantomimeFilm, i think comparing it to Different Names is a great thing. Narrow Stairs NOW!!

  • you mean forbidden love ep

  • their best was we have the facts for sure

  • Thanks for uploading! This one kind of reminds me of "Different Names For The Same Thing", in a good way...

  • sounds exactly like different names for the same thing. maybe this is one of those names.

  • Piano is similar @ the beginning but this song is a lot better for sure

  • There New Cd Sounds Like its gonna Be Better then plans

  • you deserve to die

  • i cannot WAIT for the new album to come out

  • death cab <3

  • this song is supposedly just ben and a guitar on the album accorind to billboard. here's the new albums track list: "Bixby Canyon Bridge" "I Will Possess Your Heart" "No Sunlight" "Cath..." "Talking Bird" "You Can Do Better Than Me" "Grapevine Fires" "Your New Twin Size Bed" "Long Division" "Pity and Fear" "The Ice Is Getting Thinner"
  • In a recent interview, Death Cab mentioned "The Ice is Getting Thinner" is on the record. They said it's a slow electric guitar song much like "Brothers on a Hotel Bed." I can't wait!

  • Hopefully it'll be good... I really liked brothers on a hotel bed so holding "the ice is getting thinner" to the standard of brothers might make it less sweet.

  • thanks for the song... made me really happy and then really sad... only ben could do that :)

  • I went to his NY show at Town Hall, and it was amazing.

Can't wait 'til that song is released.

  • 3 days till ATL woo hoo!

  • yeah!! im coming to that show too!!!

  • ahhh two weeeks until hes home (seattle) and i get to see this!

  • for people who take this videos. Man, thats awesome and thanks for doing so. dont we all wish we could have been there in person?

  • Thanks so much! I was at the show, but I was to the left so I couldn't see his face while he was playing the piano. This song basically made me cry.

The piano part sounds like Different Names.

  • I think he might have messed up intentionally at first (by playing the beginning of Different Names), because he turned and gave a little smirk to the audience... it was a great show, definitely...

  • It still kind of resembles Different Names a bit though. : )

But yeah, you're right, it looks like he might have messed up.
