I do like this ending, especially Maya growing up and getting married (not sure what happened to Willa?). I might be wrong, but it looked like Claire died blind - aren't her eyes all misted?
I've been watching this show for the past 6 months and I've just watched this scene.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who totally lost it and cried during the entire 6 mins, has there ever been a more emotional or better end to a show than that? Amazing
This scene has been powerful to two types of viewers: 1. Those who watched the show and know the characters. 2. Those who never watched it and do not know the characters.
It's so powerful, because it reminds us we are all headed there, along with everyone we love. Life is temporary, and one of the dates on the calander is the anniversary of YOUR death.
I write this a day after the death of Christopher Hitchens, a brilliant and interesting man who was always "there" as a public figure.
The only problem I have with this final scene is that the show basically stated that death can come unexpected at any moment (even to Nate) but somehow every other member of the Fisher family lives to a VERY old age (Claire is almost 100). Some should have died younger
@b09111 I think that the point with Claire's death, which is after a long, full life, in her own home instead of some hospital, with the final image she sees being a picture she took of a man she loves, is to show us how she, the one who left the funeral home, the one who dared getting out of there, is rewarded by a longer life and a better death. Sort of a "go east, young woman!" type message.
did anyone notice how similar lauren ambrose look like ruth fisher at her wedding?? the way she turned, her smile, made me think it was ruth at first!!
and when david died, notice that he had found another partner? but ultimately, he always missed keith. aww
I disagree with 1 person saying that this is the best series of all time but I do think it was a very good one. Started watching during the haitus of Dexter's last Season online and I must say that Michael C Hall is an excellent actor, as far as the series finale it WAS probably the best i've seen. Answers all of your questions of what happens to all of the characters all the way up until the end and i liked that. Never felt tempted to watch the same 6minutes of a tv show before until this! LOL
I recently rewatched the final season because I missed it. it's been a few years since ive seen it. just like the first time i saw this final episode, i cried so hard i couldn't breathe. this show was ART. beautiful. alan ball is a genius and an artist. nothing could ever top this show, or the ending ball created. simply a masterpiece. i miss the fishers.
It's funny I've never seen this show before, I clicked on this just out of curiousity. But I have to say I now want to see the rest of this series just to see the whole show from the beginning!
Watching this again reminds me that I still need to pick up the remaining seasons on DVD that I haven't picked up yet. I /need/ to hear Alan's commentary on these final six minutes, in particular.
Actually, I never watched the show when it aired the first time, oddly enough I found myself in a hotel room because a travel delay and happened to catch part of the marathon they were running the day of the series finale, and catched the final episode and it was almost like I fell under a spell. I came back home and rented out the whole 5 seasons!
Sencillamente brillante, vaya mezcla de sentimientos tengo ahora que se ha terminado. Uno de los mejores finales que he visto, infinitamente humano, vaya obra de arte...
yea autumn i just did the same thing (two week span), the joys of unemployment is right, ha. And this was legit the best show i have ever seen.. I cried like a baby when i watched the last couple of episodes.. I really got into the characters so it was actually very hard to watch, even though it was beautifully done... Absolutely the best i have ever seen..
I was late getting into this series, so over the summer I watched every episode in a 2 week time span (the joys of unemployment). It was phenomenal... I can't believe I hadn't seen it before. I think this is the best series finale of any tv show I've ever watched. I literally cried for 20 minutes after this scene. No TV show or movie has ever done that to me!
@Evaztlb At least it ended properly, though. I didn't feel as if any of the show was rushed or skipped. This finale gave perfect closure to what will be remembered as an incredible series.
This has to be one of the finest moments in the history of television programming. It's amazing how Ball managed to encapsulate everything the Fishers had gone through in 5 seasons into 6 minutes. After watching this, I never knew a simple TV show could move me so much. There's something oddly cathartic about this ending.
@JeddFeld7 YES, very worth it. Undoubtedly the best television series ever. It does suck that you've now seen the ending before the rest of the show, but I would still recommend purchasing the complete series box set.
@jmarie698 Thank you for the reply. I didn't actually watch the video, as I didn't want to ruin it incase I ever watched it - but the song is very good. I will look into buying the box sets. Cheers.
Alan Ball is genius..... I was a True Blood fan before ever watching a minute of Six Feet Under - just finished the series he'll have a hard time topping it.
ya know, ive seen this ending so many times. ive cried to it so many times, but i thought i could watch it here after it popped up crossreferenced with the song, i thought i could watch it and not break down. and here i am wiping my tears for the millionth time. perfect finale. perfect moments that hurt so bad because they are so real.
@PRIMITIVEPLUS01 I was told that this show was supposed to be really great. I spoiled it for myself. I really did. But I can imagine that this show is incredibly.
Even though I consider myself conservative I really like David. I thought he was the most likable and nicest character in the series. I just thought this was a really honest show. HBO made some really good shows now I'm hooked with The Wire.
I agree. I was surprised that a security professional who was carrying large sums of money didn't have body armor on and didn't have a partner exiting the truck with him to keep him covered.
It's great, but here's what I don't get: in 2051, what are those clothes Billy and Brenda are wearing? Paper clothes? Also, why do they have gray, scraggly hair if it's 2051? And in 2080, why does Claire have a human nurse? Wouldn't it be a robot by then? Also, is the glare so bright from the window because the ozone layer has disappeared?

The most beautiful TV ever made. The final episode will change your life and make you weep uncontrollably. You have to watch the entire series to truly appreciate the final episode. I am a different person than I was before I watched that show. I now live more in the moment, love more deeply and truly appreciate those around me.
This is the best series finale I've ever seen. The way they showed everyone's deaths, as well as the music selected, fit perfectly with how the show ran for the five seasons. The way all the loose ends are perfectly tied up makes me cry every time!
I'm torn between this finale and Bob Newhart's finale as being the best ever. 6FU's theme was death, I found it fitting that the finale shared the main character's deaths, which was sad, but also "ideal deaths" - after a long life, surrounded by loved ones, and seeing their long-lost loves right before their death, except for Keith's.
Claire's cherished photos did me in. I loved the symbolism of the journey alone in the desert, with life happening along the way.
I cried my eyes out the entire last episode. SFU was one of the greatest shows to ever be on television and this was one of the most moving endings I've ever seen. Gah, there I go again...
I was totaly freak out when I saw the final of 6FU. Wow!! The director sur gave all he had. Btw, One of the best tv serie I ever watch. 5*! Making history...
I have never cryed during a TV series, but this like really moved me, I started to cry right when she started to cry and when I saw all of the characters die, and I'm 13 years old. The Best season finale Ever!! The Best Show Ever!!
I loved this show so much. This is such a moving scene.

I cried my eyes out the entire last episode. SFU was one of the greatest shows to ever be on television and this was one of the most moving endings I've ever seen. Gah, there I go again...

I don't even watched this and thought the ending was moving. so they all saw someone they loved right before they moved on?

@RobPishot Throughout the show, they are visited by the dead. Sometimes their past loved ones, sometimes just who ever died during that episode.

I have never cryed during a TV series, but this like really moved me, I started to cry right when she started to cry and when I saw all of the characters die, and I'm 13 years old. The Best season finale Ever!! The Best Show Ever!!

To be honest, there are only two types of people in this world: people that have seen Six Feet Under, and people that haven't.
