I heard this for the first time when I was studying the second semester of the History of western Civilization. I laughed myself almost sick at this, and continue to find it hilarious.
Thanks for posting. This is hilarious. I first heard it when I was 17. A local college radio station used to play a daily 2 hr block for kids and this was among their playlist.
This song helped me through European History. Before this song, I could never keep my Louis' straight.

@Lteuling look up monty python's oliver cromwell, it wont disappoint!

@soocool78 You're right -- that treatment by monty python was -- shall I say -- UNIQUE? :) It's certainly an unusual way to teach history!
I have a hunch that monty python is probably more factual than Alan Sherman's rendition of "old King Louie."

My Dad was a French teacher, studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris. He turned me on to this as a child. Best French history lesson there is.
For another artist you may enjoy, and may not have heard of, check out Tom Lehrer...

To this day I tell people that the words to the French national anthem are "Louis the 16th was the king of France in 1789..."

@Cavillier1970 I wonder if that show was Kids America, a nightly (6-8 pm) show for kinds out of NYC. It was carried in Boston by BU's WBUR.
