Barr's a quality man, but when will Libertarians learn that to compete with the Dem/Rep dualopoly, they must slate a candidate with a little sex appeal and charisma? We're not gonna get anywhere until we can rewire George Clooney (or someone like him) to study the Constitution and speak common sense. The current Libertarian geek squad will never awaken the mainstream voter.
I would like to stop hearing about him complaining about the two party system, and start talking about his own political views. He uses blanket statements about democrats and republicans alike, and then says nothing of his own ideals.

I am tempted to vote for Barr I voted for Perot in '96 The difference this time is that Obama is much too radical & I do not feel comfortable taking that big of a risk
thats true, but Nader has 40 years of being pro libertarian and supporting those policies, be it through books and speeches and he fought against the automobile companies. Barr is an anti-choice enthusiast, he is for the death penalty. He is also pro teacher-led prayers. He is a better choice then McCain though. the difference between Nader ans Barr is an economic one. Barr is a neoliberal while Nader is a social democrat. both however claim to be llibertarian on social issues.
Yes, Barr did vote for the Patriot (Comrade) act. It was urged that he vote 'aye' so that a libertarian would be on the commitee that had some oversight. The result of his vote: this insane piece of legislation is still a temporary problem, rather than a permanent fixture. It shows his willingness to work inside the crazy system we have. There is so much backscratching and favoritism involved in politics that I'm sure he would do a great job as president.

Obama will not debate Barr, because if he were allowed to explain the libertarian philosophies in more than the one sentnence descriptions typical of the mainstream media, he could draw as many votes from democrats as republicans. As Ron Paul likes to say, Liberty is popular, and the republicrats can't let the masses get wind of it.
The 1992 Presidential Debates with Ross Perot were not dull. His warnings have now come true. Replace John McCain with Ron Paul. Add Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. Barack Obama must earn his victory, not win by default.

it would be great to see other American parties on these debates, just because it seems so un-american(today) to be fair towards other parties and give them also right to free speech to the majority of americans :).
Here's an idea for you Bob: go live on YouTube during the Demrep debates. A few million of us would love to watch you answer the questions and make a running commentary of McCain/Obama answers. It would be a riot. Might get some media attention too. What do you say?
It seems criminal that major "alternative" Party candidates are excluded. And he is right the debates as of now are a complete joke.
Why do Americans put up with candidates running for the President of the United States being asked ridiculous things like "are your campaign adds not sensitive enough" nonsense like that.

Voting for the lesser of two evils, as many people do, is not going to benefit the country at all. I sincerely hope that people stop doing this, and research their candidates, and vote for who would really help the country. It's not Obama, and it's not McCain...unless you want more of the garbage we've had for the last 8 years.
Since Bob Barr became libertarian, hes actually been doing the work too - and he has been working hard to correct those things he now sees as mistakes - his criticism of the administration played into his losing his seat in the house of reps - Last year, Barr joined Democrats trying to roll back patriot act provisions. Ron Paul himself calls Mr. Barr a friend. If Barr isnt in the debates, who will argue against FISA and so many other issues we care about in the presidential dabates?
are you against drivers licenses? well then whats so scary about having a national drivers license? it would help prevent illegal immigration.
and a carbon tax is simply a way for ALL of us to benefit from changing our energy supply rather then just them taking our tax dollars and giving it all to T Boone Pickens. Its called investment returns. Mike Gravel is a god damn patriot. Bob Barr is a washed up neo con.
Cute. I'm for the tenth amendment. Since when does the federal government have the authority to require an ID card to enter an airport? And how do illegal immigrants get a driver's license anyway? Couldn't they do the same method with the Real ID?
Illegal immigrants are only an issue because of our lousy economy.
The government is inept when it comes to accountability. How do we know they'll spend the revenues on the environment? I'm running low on the character count, so...
Artificially manipulating prices is not the way to combat pollution. The free market can handle renewable energy. If it's no longer profitable to sell a gas-guzzler, say when the price of gas skyrockets, the company stops selling it. We don't need the government raising the price of a certain product by adding a tax to it. Since when has a libertarian suggested giving money to T. Boone Pickens?
libertarians - do not believe in government issued licenses for driving certification of driving skills - Insurance Agencys - They have the biggest stake in how well people drive - go ahead and drive without certification AND a refusal of coverage by insurance companies. If you harm me in any way I will take your property confiscate your wages and, possibly see you go to prison
people who are against all forms of ID don't have a right to bitch about illegal immigration. and people that are scared of something as simple and insignificant as an ID card are paranoid morons that want to live in the stone ages.
I don't understand what you're saying. We all already have ID cards. We can all have state ID's/Drivers Licenses. How is another form of ID going to benefit American citizens? It sounds like more wasting of taxpayer money.
it's the best way to fight illegal immigration.the better form of id we have the harder it will be for people to steal our social security numbers.plus it identifies you as an American which means if you get in an accident in california they wont have to trace your id through a different states id service. its time and money being wasted on the confusion in not having a federalized id system. peoples fears are that the feds aren't to be trusted. well neither are the state govs so whats the fear?
You're really really going to have to sell Obama better, lol. I don't understand how increasing Capital Gains Taxes/Windfall taxes are supposed to help middle/lower class. They'll pass off the new taxes to the consumer. Besides, why does the government need to raise taxes on anything? If Obama's going to withdraw the troops from Iraq that should give the gov more than enough surplus to do what needs to be done.
I'm not necessarily in the business of "selling" obama. Listen, in the upcoming election, either barack obama or john mcain will win, and no one would argue otherwise. Whether or not obama would the best possible american citizen to be the president of the united states, he's far better than mcain. Voting for bob barr can only hurt obama's chances of winning.
This is the problem with most people's view on voting. Everyone takes these stances where "voting independant is a vote out the window" Of course voting for Barr will hurt Obama's chances. It hurts McCain's chances too. You aren't supposed to vote for who you think will win. You're supposed to vote for who you think will do the best job in the White House. This isn't the Superbowl, this is an election for the most powerful position in the free world.
Voting for bob barr would hurt obama a lot more than it would mcain, which is clear. If you're actually making the argument that it would hurt them both equally, then your views of these things are obviously skewed. Voting third party is a blatant waste of a vote. The smart choice is to choose the candidate that most represents your views and has a chance of winning. In other words, this is, in fact, the superbowl, where you seem to see it as a horse race (if you really need to make a metaphor).
If voting for Barr would hurt Obama so much more than McCain, why is it that in EVERY interview he's had with any kind of news program, they refer to him as a spoiler for McCain? Look, if you're voting for someone because after they win you can proudly proclaim that "you voted for them" then by all means, do so. All I'm saying is you're supposed to vote for who you think will be the best person for the job, regardless of how the polls look.
a vote for the libertarian party is a vote for mcain. i'm voting for someone because i want to help make their victory even more possible than it already is. if you want to vote for someone to make their impossible campaign equally impossible, go nuts, but again, don't tell me who we're "supposed" to vote for.
I guess I am phrasing it in a way that's making it seem like I'm dictating WHO you should vote for, when I'm really saying HOW you should vote, and I'm not saying you specifically, but generally. I'd like for you to tell me how a vote for Barr is a vote for McCain, though, that's interesting, given that the media insists that Barr is a McCain spoiler.
A bob barr supporter embracing the media over their own views? Pundits have proven to be widely unintelligible, and it's more effective to draw your own conclusions from facts than to watch fox news or nbc. A libertarian vote is a liberal vote indeed. I'm not going to continue arguing on this channel anymore, so you can refute me and continue trolling anyone that comments on this channel or whatever you need to do to get it out of your system and that will be that.
"A libertarian vote is a liberal vote indeed." You sir, just proved you have NO idea what you're talking about. A Libertarian is in NO WAY a liberal AT ALL. You continue to say that a vote for barr is a vote for mccain, but you don't provide any substance behind that claim, and by failing to answer that question over and over you have proved that you're a mindless Obama follower. You say that the freedom to vote for anyone is outdated is only proof that you don't believe in the constitution.
Saying that the smart choice is to choose a candidate that most represents your views AND has a chance of winning is retarded. Through that method of thinking, the Democrats and the Republicans will have a stronghold over every election, which does NOT embrace the freedom that America stands for. People have the power to vote for whoever they want, and the fact that this is a popularity contest is fucking frightening. Vote for who you think will do the best, be it Barr, Obama, or anyone else
"Saying that the smart choice is to choose a candidate that most represents your views AND has a chance of winning is retarded."
I think you should just mull that sentence over a little bit. Also, the "america is too free to be just dem or republican" argument is clearly untrue, and is widely outdated. It IS in fact a popularity contest between the two parties, whether you vote for bob barr or not. This is the last comment i will respond to. Happy trolling
Also, who made you the authority on who people are "supposed" vote for? You're just asserting your personal uninformed views and talking about them as if they were universal truths. People can vote for whoever they choose by whatever logic they want, and I'm simply asserting that voting for a president who has any chance at all of winning is a way more intelligent choice to make, so don't tell me about the "problem" with my view on voting.
I wish the third party candidates would push with all their might to get some state representatives and Senators in the Congress. This would be a good step towards change. Once you have a reasonable presence in the Congress then it will be easier for a third party candidate to run for President. You don't have enough political allies to run head to head with the candidates at their level of financing and even if you won the Presidency you have no political allies in the Congress. GAME OVER.
Apparently, Bob is very happy with George W's outstanding leadership after the crimes of 9 11 2001 were committed (SEE STATEMENT ON HIS WEBSITE0. He was so happy with W that he even voted for the Patriot Act.
NO LIBERTARIAN WOULD EVER APPROVE OF THE PATRIOT ACT.
I agree that the debates should be more open, there should be more of them, and they should be better structured. In fact, if anyone wants to better debates push this plan:
nomoreblather com/policy-debates (add a dot)
However, as far as Bob Barr is concerned, he's a complete fake:
peekURL com/zqdpr67
Some people won't want to face up to it, but he's trying to fool people in the same way that McCain and BHO are trying to fool people.
Bob Barr is knowingly sabotaging the third party effort while masquerading as a viable alternative! He voted for the War in Iraq and he voted for the Patriot Act. Since when does that qualify you as a Libertarian? His campaign manager posted a blog entry the other day praising Bush. Get a clue, people! This guy is marginalizing the people who really want a third choice. I really can't understand why Libertarians want a former CIA agent for president. What? Bush Sr. wasn't enough?
If they won't let Bob Barr in the debates as a candidate, what about pressuring the media to put him in the debates as a moderator? I would LOVE to see Bob Barr get to make the Big Two candidates squirm by asking them the REAL questions.
Can Barr somehow use the TX ballot issue as leverage to get himself into the debates?
I'd much rather see Bob in the debates rather than disenfranchise Texas voters (even though the lawsuit absolutely has merit and Bob definitely holds the legal high ground). Besides, I very much doubt keeping McBama off the ballot will endear the LP to many voters.
Bob can tell them he'll drop the lawsuit (and spare the duopoly the embarrassment) if he's invited to be in all the debates.
You screwed up, Bob. You shouldn't have snubbed the father of the revolution. We got over the fact that you voted for the war, the patriot act, the military commissions act, etc. We believed you saw the "light" but now realize your agenda is not inclusive of other third parties, but exclusive to only the Libertarian Party. And this is coming from an old school Goldwater Conservative...
Personally, I can care less what you have next to your name. (L)(R)(D)... whatever.
What's wrong with trying to make progress for only the Libertarian Party? Why should a Libertarian try to be a booster for the Constitution Party or the Green Party? That'd be about as ridiculous as a Republican trying to help the Democratic Party.
Nice sheep you just vote for one of the same. Try being a bit of a free thinker, you just might see the truth. By the way you are a typical Liberal hypocrite, preach peace, love, help your neighbor, have an open mind, then close yours. Good luck with the Obama/ McCain guilt.
Just to be clear, in my dictionary (and with some common sense everybody can come to this conclusion) libertarian means inhumane, insane, nazi, fundamentalist, isolationist, militarist, anti-women, anti-semitic, racist SHEEP.
Because you have to be a real brainwashed sheep to follow this crazy, failed ideology, which in fact a cult or religion, for all of you crazy monkeys.
LOL Why do you think you attract all the 911 truthers for instance?
Flawed... that's an understatement. This is the "internets" so it's not surprising that people can string a bunch of names together and call it a fact or a definition. Great reply, though.
Obama and McCain are scared of letting Bob Barr debate them...They both know they cannot win a debate against him. (although one of them will most likely win the White House) Bob You have my vote.
I can't wait to see the debates. I think America will finally realize that despite their fears and prejudices, Obama is the right candidate to pull America back to it's former greatness and beyond. Again, Obama's poll numbers are leading and now Palin's numbers are declining. I think after the debates, there will be no doubt who is better capable to represent the American people and this great nation. No more lies, No more Bush, No more Rupublican trash!!!
this election isn't about RPaul's endorsement or vise versa, its about changing the 2 party system. So far the Libertarian party is the only one that seems fair and balanced to me.Constitutional party is to extreme, read their platform in full, they might as well call themselves the Christian party.
Bob Barr will have my vote simply because I would love to see the Libertarians succeed in the future.
I was very tempted to vote for Barr after Paul dropped out and even was endorsing him (along with other 3rd party candidates), but when Barr totally blew off Paul, I can't do it. I'd rather not take place in this charade called voting. It's a joke if you think your vote counts for anything. I'm also unsubscribing to anything to do with Barr, who is as much a Libertarian as Bill Maher is (read: Not).
I wasn't a big fan of Barr in the first place. All one has to do is look at his anti-Liberty message and wonder how the national LP elected this guy. I'd rather not vote, the system is a joke.
ghalpin23 - You know, people always complain about how irresponsible it is for a citizen to hold his or her vote. I call bullshit; they're only saying that because they want you to vote for *their* candidate. McCain wants to stay the course and Obama wants to fuck with Iran. There is no lesser of two evils in this situation.
They also need to get rid of the electoral college. Why do we have it? WHY?!
I know what they're thinking. You would just promise to show up, cancel at the last minute, and have your own show a couple of hours later at the same place.
notice how limited the coverage is of candidates other than their favorites(democrats and republicans).
155 years since a person other than a republican or democrat has sat in the whitehouse, countless wars and a 9.6. trillion dollar debt. Hell of a cost.
I'm sorry you guys, but the momentum behind the other 2 parties, as it always has been, dictates just by their sheer volume that a libertarian will not take the white house. I am fine with the idea of voting for one, and I agree that its only fair, but realize you have no chance to win in the primary. Thats just the way it is unfortunately. Bringing your candidate to the debates would be a waste of air time between the 2 major parties, one of which will win; no question: Dont shoot the messenger
Im not scared of it and i think it would def be a big boost for the party, I'm just saying that voting for a libertarian in this election is like trying to stop a train w/a bb gun.
Your cause is definitely righteous, trying to bring more balance to politics, but all im saying is that either a dem or a rep will win win. It is noble/idealistic to vote libertarian, but in the end it wont make a difference. Im not trying to shoot u guys down its just the way it is in this country. Good luck though
It will take time but I believe the Libertarian Movement is growing, and by the time the next election rolls around, in 2012, the Libertarian party will not be able to be ignored by the status quo. I am registered independent (no party) and have just started researching the Libertarian party, and I like what I have seen so far. I may even Register as a Libertarian.
Barr, you should pose a video question to the debates about constitutional issue. Say, "I'm Bob Barr, Libertarian Candidate for President, and I'd like to ask what you plan to do to uphold the Constitution?"
Though I support Obama, I think it is shameful how the GOP and DNC have silenced all other views from the national stage. Bob Barr should be allowed to speak, as should anyone else with a significant following.
We're not going to solve any of our big problems by only allowing two points of view to be heard.
Unfortunately, the criteria include getting 15% in the polls. This is designed to exclude 3rd parties. Perot was in the debates in '92 and they wanted to prevent that from happening again (Perot did poll 15% AFTER the debate). The Commission calls itself "nonpartisan" but it is unfortunately run by a Republican and a Democrat.
If they mention the "criteria", tell them to get rid of the 15% -- the parties had big debates, why can't America!
Just called th Commission on Debates asking to let Bob Barr participate. She said that info will be passed on to her superiors. I stated that he has great ideas and the country as a whole would benefit by hearing him debate with McCain and Obama. Not sure what action if any will occur, but let's keep calling!
Call the Commission and tell them politely that you would like to see Bob Barr on the Debates. Alot of Americans are undecided, why wont they show us our other option!!!???
A third party debate is better than no debate at all. We need to show as many people as possible that the LP is the only party truly interested in protecting freedom in America.
I've heard a lot of buzz calling for a third party debate. They can do that but it's just going to be on CSPAN and no one will watch it. It also gives the impression that the 3rd parties aren't equal to the two dominant parties.
We shouldn't settle for a 3rd party debate, we should only settle for the larger debates with the other candidates.
We flooded the news with e-mail over Ron Paul, why cant we do that again for the debates?

It seems criminal that major "alternative" Party candidates are excluded. And he is right the debates as of now are a complete joke.
Why do Americans put up with candidates running for the President of the United States being asked ridiculous things like "are your campaign adds not sensitive enough" nonsense like that.

Voting for the lesser of two evils, as many people do, is not going to benefit the country at all. I sincerely hope that people stop doing this, and research their candidates, and vote for who would really help the country. It's not Obama, and it's not McCain...unless you want more of the garbage we've had for the last 8 years.

the libertarians should've went with Mike Gravel. instead they went with a washed up ousted neo con that just told them what they wanted to hear.
no gay marriage
yes war on drugs
yes on the war in iraq
yes on the patriot act.
NOT A LIBERTARIAN!!!!!!
oldhacks 3 years ago
Mike Gravel is for the REAL ID. He's for a carbon tax. He supports universal health care.
Gravel currently supports those things. Bob Barr used to support the things you listed in your comment.
Bob Barr is a libertarian. Mike Gravel is a Republicrat.

CruiseCarter 3 years ago 5
are you against drivers licenses? well then whats so scary about having a national drivers license? it would help prevent illegal immigration.
and a carbon tax is simply a way for ALL of us to benefit from changing our energy supply rather then just them taking our tax dollars and giving it all to T Boone Pickens. Its called investment returns. Mike Gravel is a god damn patriot. Bob Barr is a washed up neo con.
oldhacks 3 years ago
MooseOfReason 3 years ago 3
Artificially manipulating prices is not the way to combat pollution. The free market can handle renewable energy. If it's no longer profitable to sell a gas-guzzler, say when the price of gas skyrockets, the company stops selling it. We don't need the government raising the price of a certain product by adding a tax to it. Since when has a libertarian suggested giving money to T. Boone Pickens?
Healthcare, which you haven't mentioned...
Character count again...
MooseOfReason 3 years ago 2
My point was that Mike Gravel wasn't a libertarian. Libertarians are pro-privacy, anti-tax, and pro-free market.
The three positions I listed that Gravel supports, go against those three libertarian positions.
MooseOfReason 3 years ago
libertarians - do not believe in government issued licenses for driving certification of driving skills - Insurance Agencys - They have the biggest stake in how well people drive - go ahead and drive without certification AND a refusal of coverage by insurance companies. If you harm me in any way I will take your property confiscate your wages and, possibly see you go to prison
CruiseCarter 3 years ago
people who are against all forms of ID don't have a right to bitch about illegal immigration. and people that are scared of something as simple and insignificant as an ID card are paranoid morons that want to live in the stone ages.
oldhacks 3 years ago
I don't understand what you're saying. We all already have ID cards. We can all have state ID's/Drivers Licenses. How is another form of ID going to benefit American citizens? It sounds like more wasting of taxpayer money.
terinbune 3 years ago
it's the best way to fight illegal immigration.the better form of id we have the harder it will be for people to steal our social security numbers.plus it identifies you as an American which means if you get in an accident in california they wont have to trace your id through a different states id service. its time and money being wasted on the confusion in not having a federalized id system. peoples fears are that the feds aren't to be trusted. well neither are the state govs so whats the fear?

i appreciate your enthusiasm, but don't be a bob dole. democrats need victory now more than ever. you should openly support obama
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago
You're really really going to have to sell Obama better, lol. I don't understand how increasing Capital Gains Taxes/Windfall taxes are supposed to help middle/lower class. They'll pass off the new taxes to the consumer. Besides, why does the government need to raise taxes on anything? If Obama's going to withdraw the troops from Iraq that should give the gov more than enough surplus to do what needs to be done.
terinbune 3 years ago
I'm not necessarily in the business of "selling" obama. Listen, in the upcoming election, either barack obama or john mcain will win, and no one would argue otherwise. Whether or not obama would the best possible american citizen to be the president of the united states, he's far better than mcain. Voting for bob barr can only hurt obama's chances of winning.
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago
This is the problem with most people's view on voting. Everyone takes these stances where "voting independant is a vote out the window" Of course voting for Barr will hurt Obama's chances. It hurts McCain's chances too. You aren't supposed to vote for who you think will win. You're supposed to vote for who you think will do the best job in the White House. This isn't the Superbowl, this is an election for the most powerful position in the free world.
terinbune 3 years ago 4
Voting for bob barr would hurt obama a lot more than it would mcain, which is clear. If you're actually making the argument that it would hurt them both equally, then your views of these things are obviously skewed. Voting third party is a blatant waste of a vote. The smart choice is to choose the candidate that most represents your views and has a chance of winning. In other words, this is, in fact, the superbowl, where you seem to see it as a horse race (if you really need to make a metaphor).
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago
If voting for Barr would hurt Obama so much more than McCain, why is it that in EVERY interview he's had with any kind of news program, they refer to him as a spoiler for McCain? Look, if you're voting for someone because after they win you can proudly proclaim that "you voted for them" then by all means, do so. All I'm saying is you're supposed to vote for who you think will be the best person for the job, regardless of how the polls look.
terinbune 3 years ago
a vote for the libertarian party is a vote for mcain. i'm voting for someone because i want to help make their victory even more possible than it already is. if you want to vote for someone to make their impossible campaign equally impossible, go nuts, but again, don't tell me who we're "supposed" to vote for.
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago
I guess I am phrasing it in a way that's making it seem like I'm dictating WHO you should vote for, when I'm really saying HOW you should vote, and I'm not saying you specifically, but generally. I'd like for you to tell me how a vote for Barr is a vote for McCain, though, that's interesting, given that the media insists that Barr is a McCain spoiler.
terinbune 3 years ago
A bob barr supporter embracing the media over their own views? Pundits have proven to be widely unintelligible, and it's more effective to draw your own conclusions from facts than to watch fox news or nbc. A libertarian vote is a liberal vote indeed. I'm not going to continue arguing on this channel anymore, so you can refute me and continue trolling anyone that comments on this channel or whatever you need to do to get it out of your system and that will be that.
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago
"A libertarian vote is a liberal vote indeed." You sir, just proved you have NO idea what you're talking about. A Libertarian is in NO WAY a liberal AT ALL. You continue to say that a vote for barr is a vote for mccain, but you don't provide any substance behind that claim, and by failing to answer that question over and over you have proved that you're a mindless Obama follower. You say that the freedom to vote for anyone is outdated is only proof that you don't believe in the constitution.
terinbune 3 years ago
Saying that the smart choice is to choose a candidate that most represents your views AND has a chance of winning is retarded. Through that method of thinking, the Democrats and the Republicans will have a stronghold over every election, which does NOT embrace the freedom that America stands for. People have the power to vote for whoever they want, and the fact that this is a popularity contest is fucking frightening. Vote for who you think will do the best, be it Barr, Obama, or anyone else
terinbune 3 years ago
"Saying that the smart choice is to choose a candidate that most represents your views AND has a chance of winning is retarded."
I think you should just mull that sentence over a little bit. Also, the "america is too free to be just dem or republican" argument is clearly untrue, and is widely outdated. It IS in fact a popularity contest between the two parties, whether you vote for bob barr or not. This is the last comment i will respond to. Happy trolling
cohenmkarnell 3 years ago

GAME OVER.
