has anyone tried this? I grow a lot of garlic and it needs a certain amount of cool weather or you will end up with just one large clove. I dont think this will work very well.

It's interesting we never see the actual green tops growing in said pot in the video. In my experience, garlic from the grocery NEVER grows, or grows poorly because they have been treated to NOT grow. I've resorted to buying bulbs at three times their actual worth at a greenhouse or at a farmers market. Only then do I ever see growth worth mentioning.

The plants don't smell. Perhaps if you were to crush the shoots, but I've seen no reason to try that.

Fresh, young garlic shoots are delicious in salads. They have a mild taste that's quite different to that of mature cloves.

Also, this is one plant that's worth growing even for apartment dwellers. You can produce all the garlic you need in just a couple of pots on a sunny window sill.

Garlic is a weird one that normally is only seeded from other live plants. Most of our garlic in north american comes from overseas, look at the label some time you'd be surprised where it comes from (or maybe not).
