I haven't heard or played a spruce top Pono. I would hazard to guess the only difference would be the sound. Mahogany usually makes for a more mellow tone than spruce. If you're after a brighter, louder attack the spruce top would probably suit you better. I tend to like the mellow sound of mahogany for a tenor.
I bought this uke from musicguymic in Hawaii over a year ago. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but I do remember that the price was reasonable for a well made solid wood instrument. Check out Mike's ebay site for a current price. Music
City Cairns sometimes has Ponos in stock also. They have an ebay shop, as well as a new website.
No I haven't Ken. I probably haven't played it exactly the same twice. I'm kind of improvising around a theme in parts. Good idea though, I think I will try it.
it sounds clear, like rain

Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I'm not sure of the model number but the uke is an all solid mahogany tenor.
I am not playing amplified, and the recording was with a digital camera so it doesn't actually do the sound justice.

This is some beautiful sounding uke. It must be plugged in? What model Pono is it?
Also, nice playing. Thank you.

Thanks. The mahogany Ponos seem to have almost a little classical guitar sound to my ears. Great for fingerstyle playing.

Thanks Ken. I'm still working on trying to record a version of the song without mistakes. This one came close.
