Hi, I'm getting started in the world of DH and I'm not sure if it's better for me to buy the SX Trail 2012 new (wich I consider like a good beginner bike even though it has a single crown fork) or buy an used official downhill bike (an more robusted, heavier and bigger frame with a double corwn fork)

I'd like to here your advices - Thank you.

@samb271 well 1st off the sx is by no means a "beginner" bike! even for downhill riding the sx can hold it own.i've ridden a demo and i own an sx and aside from an xtra 20mm's or so of travel on the demo they're basically the same if your going with specialized only..i cant speak for other manufacturers.so unless your looking to go apeshit down severely treacherous huge drops and technical runs like you see the professionals do then an sx will be more than adequate!

@samb271 there is no beginners bike for downhill riding..you either pay for professional grade or you get nothing lol!..and like i said before i cant speak for other bike co's other than specialized but as far as price for dh bikes they're all roughly the same of course i gotta go with specialized out of personal preference as well as in my opinion the best innovation's in the industry. good luck and choose wisely!

Think that 175 millimeters was the maaxtravel that specialized recommended for my 08 SX. Nevertheless I have seen SX-bikes with 200mm dualcrown.

hey guys iam not knocking this bike they are the best , . but if your just doing this as a hobby as iam no way am i going to spend the kinda money they ask for these bikes . wallmart does me just fine or any other cheap bike for that matter sure they will fail sooner or later  but for £200 i think i can afford it just my opinion thanks

these videos make me laugh as if you need a $3000 doller bike to do this . a rode a cheap of the shelf mountain bike from the makers falcon and did the very same thing , and it held up just fine whats more a still ride it every day the cost of the bike was $200 dollers , only thing i changed was the crank for a uprated sealed cartridge type ,, :-)

The rolling chain guide did not work well on this bike but after I took it off it turned out to be the best bike I have ever owned. And yes short of the impossible this bike does make the rider feel a little bit invincible and will allow you to do things you thought you couldn't.

I thought about getting a rockhopper but the i had to choose between a giant rincon or the specialized but i liked the specialized way better but the only good thing about the rincon is that it had dirt jump forks and disc brakes. i broke the stock forks on my specialized and got some marrasochi mz race forks..i love them
