This song is so poignant - the people in the world that have money often spend it on things that could wait. At the same time there are people and causes that need help and the people with the power and ability to do something do nothing. The world is out of balance and there's no need for it.
Julian has a way of thinking that he inherited from his dad. Maybe we can all learn from both of them.
must be genetic as theres another video at YT interviewing julian and he says that he "met" his father only 8 times- max...in his entire life- and each time it was "difficult"...he didnt get the proceeds of john's fame either and didnt live a lavish life.
despite that, he produces gems like this and others...

Great song, love his talent but personally i feel so what if the planet is finished. Nobody gets out of here alive, we are born, grow old if we are lucky and get stuck in a ground. Am i supposed to be grateful for that? Let it end, there is nothing here worth saving anyway.
He was before his time, wasn't he. ;) He was singing about environmental issues in 1991, which was 17 years ago, before Global Warming was really starting to be recognized as a real problem. Smart man. :)
Actually, he purposely tried to make it sound a little like Strawberry Fields to get people's attention so they would listen to what the song was about. Did it get your attention?
it got my attention when i first heard it....i wish all four sons of The Beatles would get together and form a band...WOULDN'T THAT BE AMAZING there all talented.. not sure about James Macartney.. does he do anthing...?? SEAN LENNON IS A SPLITTING IMAGE OF JOHN..
I wouldn't hold your breath. Sean is scoring a movie at the moment (WOW what I've heard) & Jules is releasing his own CD this spring (also WOW..myspace-com/julianlennon for details from THE man himself ;)..& Dhani just released his own CD (he's very talented too). Both brothers resemble John, but I see a lot of their moms too. Sean, Yoko & Jules, Cynthia. BUT...Jules & Sean haven't ruled out doing a project together someday. But only when if feels right. They're not going to force it.
Go to: myspace-com/julianlennon and find out from the man himself. ;) He's blogging there & there are early mixes of new songs that will be on a new CD he's working on getting release in the Spring. He is VERY talented. :)
Julian Lennon is so much like his Father John. It's unbelieveable how much his voice sounds like John Lennon. Julian Lennon is VERY talented!!! Love this song!
i really wish the best of success for Julian he is making it and does not need his dad's fame to help him Julian your talented and such a handsome man.
i've said it afore, and i'll do so again...not only a great tune, but becoming ever more poignant as every day falls by.unless we break the strangle hold of the oil barons, well lets just say our grandchildren have no future.
Actually it's more like Strawberry Fields, which he did on purpose BTW. He did it to get people's attention so they would listen to what the song is about. Did it work? ;)
mmm...sounds more like I am the Walrus to me. With a little Strawberry Fields. Maybe a combo of the both of them. It's cool that he uses Beatle similarities to get people's attention to listen to his music, but it's always much better to experience something new. I like himm though, he is a good artist. I like him better than Sean Lennon.
I agree but right before he died, he was changing his ways with both Julian and Sean. He was trying to do good and better. So I look up to John for changing himself for the better in that area! :) I wish my dad would change but not going to happen apparently. I don't look up to people that don't change for the better. Love this video and song! TY for posting!
You know, its funny that you mentioned that, because I read recently that Yoko had really been on John really hard about being a good father to Julian, rather if its true or not idk
You need to go to Amazon-com to buy Julian's albums. Just thought I'd save you some time in looking. :) Julian is an awesome singer! You'll find 5 CD's out there and a new CD that will be released soon. There are 3 early mixes of songs that will be on his new CD on his MySpace page if you're interested in hearing them. :)
It's sad how a lot of people think he only had one album. :/ Do you mean "Valotte"? Just so you know, "Saltwater" is on his 4th album, "Help Yourself". Good, solid album. "Photograph Smile" is amazing and his 6th album, which just got done being mixed is soon on the way as juliannisaakfan said, from what I've heard of it with the early mixes on MySpace is going to be even more awesome. :)
What an excellent, if poignant, song. Very George Harrison-esque, especially the guitar licks. Should have been as big a hit in the U.S. as "Too Late for Goodbyes" was.
This song was released before George Harrison's death. Actually, here's what Jules said about it in a radio transcript on a website called HeyJules. I think this is why it's uncredited...continued...
...Jules Quote: "I know. I know! I originally wrote the guitar solo and played it on the demo and Bob Ezrin, the producer, and I thought, 'Well, Why don't we get the real guy in to do it?' and we called George and, unfortunately - I mean, we sent him the tapes over but at the time that he was going to try and do it for us was the time that Eric Clapton's kid died and so George was consoling Eric and it was a bit of a bad time but he, nevertheless,...(continued)
..."did do a couple of - threw a couple of rifts in and what we did was we got someone who was also a great guitar player, Steve Hunter to to throw a mixture of George's solo and mine together and that's the final thing that you hear."
Maybe it will be soon again. ;) He's re-releasing a remix of it soon. It's on his MySpace page with early mixes of some new songs if you're interested. He's VERY close to releasing new album too. He just wrote a blog today saying he's in the last week of mixing. WOOHOO! Can't wait! :D
I think if Lennon Snr could've heard this saltwater would have welled in his eyes! Seems so cruel that the only person who could've truely connected with Lennon was his son and they never got that chance! Juilian seems every inch his Fathers equal, poor Cythia curse Heroin and pray for the sins of Yoko Ono, Drug peddling homewrecker!
Good question. He was WAY ahead of his time too, releasing this in 1991. Although, he's re-releasing another version of this song soon. He's finishing up a new album, which will be released this year. If you're interested, the new remix of this song is on his MySpace page along with a few other early mixes of new songs that will be on the new album. :)
George and John were the closest of the beatles I think, I seen a vid from the eighties George talking mentions Juilian's career and he seems so proud like it's his own son! God bless George and John!RIP Long live Juilian!
Wow, he somewhat has his dad's voice! Beautiful song. I personally think he sings alot better than Sean Lennon. Julian's voice is softer and less high pitched.
so true, so awful, wish id been born year ago, we need to take care of our world, its nasty really, yep we are to clever, ruined our natural environment
God, he is hot (but then, so was his father). Our children are going to hate us -- a pop song from 1991 was all about how much we're crapping on the planet, and we did nothing, and we're still doing nothing. Of course, I'm not helping the problem by typing this from a carbon-unfriendly computer :-(

sera la influencia, los genes o talvez la falta de llenar aquel espacio que nos dejo, sumado a eso la semejansa inevitable que esta cancion nos recuerda a su padre ,sin que ello le reste merito
Sad and beautiful! I heard this song years ago,and looked for it so long!-thank you for posting it! I've tried to find it for my friends who are Beatles/Julian fans, tried to describe it, but how do you describe beauty, perfection? Everyone who hears it, loves it. That's definately Harrison on the solo, God I wish they had done more together. Maybe someday, he'll record w/McCartney, love to hear how that would be! Julian, if you ever read this stuff, your so gifted, please share more w/the world!
lovely track , forget who his father was lets judge him on his own credentials and stop unfairly comparing him to one of the greatest musicians of all time :)
Julian has once said that the beginning of this song is similar to the beginning of Strawberry Fields, because he wanted to draw the listeners attention to this song from the very beginning, and to make them hear the message that way.
This song is so poignant - the people in the world that have money often spend it on things that could wait. At the same time there are people and causes that need help and the people with the power and ability to do something do nothing. The world is out of balance and there's no need for it.

It is George Harrison on slide guitar. But it was uncredited. :)

Is Ringo on drums too? Sounds like a trademark Ringo beat?

It's supposed to be himself (Julian) older and at the end of his life ~ that's why they are both singing.

What a pretty song!! Really makes you think. John would be so proud of his little boy!!

sera la influencia, los genes o talvez la falta de llenar aquel espacio que nos dejo, sumado a eso la semejansa inevitable que esta cancion nos recuerda a su padre ,sin que ello le reste merito

I love this song so much.
Julian has once said that the beginning of this song is similar to the beginning of Strawberry Fields, because he wanted to draw the listeners attention to this song from the very beginning, and to make them hear the message that way.
