I think it’s one of the most beautiful tracks to drive on. The bus moves on and the video shows a splendid view of the greenery & neat and clean atmosphere – I wish I was with you to enjoy the bus ride- Lol.
Great uploads like these bring out the best in me. Thanks for sharing.
I love this video. As you can tell, he is starting off in 2nd gear rather than 1st. On these buses, 1st gear is sometimes classified as a deep under gear rather than a regular under or direct gear. So you theareatically have 4 possible speeds, you really have 3 of them that are trully usable.
Wonderful video's Thanks for posting. I used to drive through Wendover many times from Milton Keynes to High Wycombe.I now live in Minnesota USA, and watching these video's of your Routemaster. Brings back so many memories of Home. Thank You! Hope you will make more.
Hi Danny, thanks for comments, Yes I drive classics a fair bit, we own the RCL in the video, have also owned several RF's (pre-select) and still own RF539.
Brilliant video. Filmed on my old stomping ground. I worked at both Tring and Amersham garages. Naughty driver. If he was an ex LT/LCBS driver, Gerry Girelli or Ken Carver (mecanical inspectors) would be smacking his wrist for pulling the handbrake before stopping AND "ratcheting" the handbrake at the by-pass roundabout. Nice use of the semi box though.
Hey, thanks for this post, I take the smack on the wrist for the use of the handbrake and thank you for the gearbox comment.
It is a lovely vehicle to drive, what buses did you drive when at Tring + Amersham? We also have an RF (wide cab) which I think was at Amersham for a while.
When I first went to Tring, it was an RT, RF and LNC ( Long National ) operation, with a sole MB ( ex XMB4 renumbered MBS15 ). Then along came SNC & SNB`s ( short Nationals, RML and RMC`s. Then when Tring closed in `76, I went to Amersham. This was SM`s, Nationals, RB`s ( AEC Reliances with Duple bodies ), TP & TPL`s ( Leyland Tigers with Plaxton bodies ), Atlanteans and later on Olympians. Also some weird ex Ribble Atlanteans with ECW bodies.
I started at Tring as a crew driver on RT`s. Then went onto Leyland Nationals and RF`s as a Green Line driver on the 706. I also drove the RMC`s and the one RML we had. The most unusual vehicle was MBS15, which had started life as XMB4, a Strachan bodied vehicle, with a very low driving position. This was superceded by a later, standard MB. When Tring closed in `76, I went to Amersham, which had the AN`s SM`s and Nationals.
All the old LT stuff really. At Tring it was, RT`s, RF`s, RML`s and RMC`s, and an MBS whose number I can`t remember, and even XMB4, renumbered MBS15 by then. A true classic from Strachans, but none survived. Then we got the real crap. LNC`s, SNC`s. At Amersham it was AN`s, BN`s, SM`s and a collection of Nationals. Just before I left, LCNW, by now owned by British Bus, got hold of a couple of ECW bodied AN`s. They looked like Bristol VR`s but on the AN chassis. Awful vehicles.

Ah, the lovely sound of an AEC! So much sweeter than those horrid-sounding things put into many RMs in later days.
