I thought you were allowed 2 steps once you killed your dribble. I was making the point that many players use 2 and a half steps, which is usually quick and the refs can't pick up on it, or they just pick on certain players more than others. (LBJ made 3 here)
@vickant2 there's nothing about a "gather step" in the rule book. It clearly states you're allowed "...two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball." If that's not clear, I dunno what is (sarcasm of course)
@vickant2 you are very correct........refs were told to pretty much ignore the old rule anyway, and you have to believe that they are gonna be pretty relaxed with this new rule, which lets players get away with even more. It's awful, might as well be watching european handball
@SFO14 im not understanding the rules for the NBA anymore, they are gonna give technicals to players for complaining about a call, which would take out the emotion in the game, but at the same time they are going to let players get away with more. it doesn't make much sense
@vickant2 they try new stuff every year and it lasts about 6 games into the preseason, then they go back to their same old crap..........the NBA's been losing money for the past several years so they're trying whatever they can to make it more entertaining, but all they're doing is messing it up and it's prolly going to lead to a lock-out in the near future.
@vickant2 agreed.....they allow it to an extent, for certain players and the refs are super inconsistent calling these types of fouls (forearm rule), particularly in the low post.
It's a moot point, the NBA is special. In just about any other league on the planet this is called a travel (depending on the player of course). They rarely call this in the NBA and will almost never call it on LBJ
he didn't travel. he made one step and then caught the ball in a split second after his 1st step then goes for two steps then the slam. watch it carefully

@SFO14 well you have to blame the refs then because that is what they let every player get away with

seems like he made "2 and a half" when players are only allowed "1 and a half" steps.
the step he takes while catching the ball is considered half.
