The modern French are descended from the Franks, a Germanic tribe who ivaded Gaul at the fall of the Roman Empire. The first 5 coalitions Britain gave practically no military support, and the Prussians, Russians and Austrians got fucked and lost, when we did give military support in the Peninsular war and the last 2 coalitions who won??? The coalition, we were the deciding factor. The British army was best in the world.

Look at the 2nd Anglo-Marathan war, we won vs Maratha and France together. Look at the wars in America and Canada, we won on our own or with almost non-existent amounts of help from natives.

Plus, the French relied on it's militia and poorly trained army since the British controlled the sea. Even though the French got the natives, they were still being outnumbered by the British (who also got help from some of the natives). The British Army was great, but not the best.
