Awww I wish I would've gone on this, love it that they kept the corkscrew part of the track though, what a pleasant surpirse that was on my visit last month! Now just a Toyland Tours teddy sitting somewhere in Towers Street perhaps?..pretty please Alton Towers! <3

I went on this in the 2008 season and thought it was old then, they management obviously werent interested in maintaining it either as it was scruffy and unkempt, paint was peeling (as it was throughout the whole of AT to be honest) and there were weeds all over the place...

I reckon this ride WAS alton towers! It was a really big deal when it came out in 1980. Does anyone remember the childrens game show 'HOLD TIGHT!' that used to be filmed there? I think Bob Carolgees was the presenter....

Damn it - cant believe they clsoed the corkscrew - this was my first roller coaster when i was 9 and made the 1.2 meters!!! Anyone know why it was closed? Maintenance Costs? reliability?

They removed it to get make way for Secret Weapon 6, which is comming spring 2010, but it was getting old as well.

Don't want to sound like an American (cos I'm from UK) but in many ways they do do things bigger and better.

This ride was fun when I was 13, but compared to the rides at Six Flags, its a child's toy at 1/6 the size.

More than anything I can think of, the UKs coasters compared to those the other side of the pond characterise Little Britain's narrow thinking compared to the State's 'anything can be achieved' attitude to life.

@YouSeeSaf the americans steal all the worlds firsts from britain. for example Oblivion Corkscrew Air Th13teen Colossus Speed no limits (i think) apocalypse (ok not a coaster but still) mumbo jumbo saw the ride the americans just make the rides bigger and better, but the british have it up there to come up with the rides in the first place. go on britain

i probably wouldnt go on it again if it was still there because last time i banged my head and had to walk around with a headache for a while, but its still memories, awh, poor corkscrew.

i can see why they are getting rid of it though, everyone seems to have a story of hurtin emselves on it lol

and the only ride to be taken out of alton that I've been on! Lets hope they replace it with something even better and they got rid of the ug swings and put them near that theatre n the shitty charlie ride! Hopefully the new ride will make ug land fantastic again as the only ride there now is rita, which is rubbish imo too short

Idk th reasons they took out corkscrew, but u know.

Id been on every half decent ride at alton towers, eg. air, nemesis, obilvion, corkscrew etc. And this was ok, but tbh i think alton is at its best. :)

Great ride, went on it once, first ride I ever went on with a loop. Couldn't go on it again cus it gave me SEVERE neck and back pains (the jolting in the helixes). But UG land won't be the same without it now :( I will miss it
