On one hand, musicians are more or less shit on. No one considers their talents worth paying for. They pay $60/hour for an electrician, but $0/hour for an electronic artist.
On the other hand, you have customers so fed up with getting screwed that they turn to piracy.
So what their saying is watching a movie is illegal since you didn't buy the movie itself. Or watching a youtube video is also illegal since you don't own it yourself unless you're the uploader. The company's are greedy little queersbecause let's say you kill someone oh wait what? You are going to jail or atleast have to pay a fine of let's say 600.000$ And hold on a normal typical teenager downloads a song and what? He has to pay more then a million... this is just stupid and pathetic.
If your gonna download songs use a proxy or better yet do it from a country that hates America. There was another case in which a person from France downloaded 50 illegal songs however the government refused to co operate so he was safe.
The guy broke the law, he is no better than a burglar taking a flat screen out of someone's house, or a car thief. IMO he got away lightly by only having to pay a settlement.
To stop these CRIMINALS, laws need to be passed that prescribe FEDERAL PRISON sentences to these individuals. Two years per song. Maybe these punks will think twice about stealing someone's work if they have to worry about dropping the soap.
What a cry baby... obey they law and you wouldn't be in this boat now would ya?
You, my friend, are BRILLIANT! Send half of the population of America to prison for many years and waste hundreds of millions of tax dollars on keeping these millions of harmless people in jail. Pure genius.
@PhatFarm60 lending CD's is evil because people hear songs without the artists getting paid because certainly the labels don't take 92% of album sales. whatever shall we do?
Well, the music industry is one of the most corrupt and shamelessly exploitative in the world.
Where are the terrorists when you really need them? If Al Quaeda had attacked the music industry on 9/11 we'd be sending them aid today instead of fighting them.

This is a joke with the copyright. Why can't be like canada? Tax the hell out of copyright laws and you can download MP3's online for free.
Sheesh what has the USA come to.

It's funny how Joel talks about how he should be doing research instead of being in a lawsuit.
Maybe you should have researched how not to purloin other peoples efforts.
I hope you in the future produce a great research paper only to have it ripped off.
BTW: Yes the fine is too much.

Maybe it's better to distribute records freely and get money for live shows...
There are I think hundreds of illegal downloads for each legally bought record.
aleclitvinov 2 years ago 19
@aleclitvinov Yeah, giving away free songs could be used as an advertisement campaign for the bands tour quite successfully, I believe.
