My 1 yr old nephew knows that. The interviews made it clear they were in full knowing - They KNEW it was not ok to kill a toddler yet they did. Maybe little James would still be alive. Look up Mary Bell, who when she was 11, murdered two toddlers in Newcastle in the 60s, along with a simple-minded accomplice. She never admitted her crime, showed no remorse and was released early.

@Muirmaiden i agree killing isnt the answer it never is. But children that age know what they were doing and regardless it is in human nature to know that causing pain and murder of our own is wrong. My 1 yr old nephew knows that. The interviews made it clear they were in full knowing - They KNEW it was not ok to kill a toddler yet they did. You cant blame it all on society one of the boys was in a perfectly stable environment save from split parents - i have split parents i don't kill toddlers.

@CharleyTee1 , both boys showed signs of problems & nothing was done about it. That's what I mean. Venables mother was, by some accounts, abusive. Those adults outside the courtroom are examples of people who don't realize that their actions have an impact on kids. Of course, the boys should have gotten longer sentences, they got off way too easy. Innocent young men have been targeted because they were mistaken for Thompson and Venables. That shows how out of control this case has become.

@CharleyTee1 , it's the responsibility of the adults around kids to respond when they are acting out (which they do not do out of nowhere), or doing destructive things, so as to help prevent a tragedy like this from happening again. Maybe little James would still be alive. Look up Mary Bell, who when she was 11, murdered two toddlers in Newcastle in the 60s, along with a simple-minded accomplice. She never admitted her crime, showed no remorse and was released early.

@CharleyTee1 , there's not nearly as much outrage over Mary Bell, and she killed two little boys. She even taunted one of the boys' mothers. The media in the Bulger case made a huge difference, and don't think that the media doesn't try to manipulate people. It exaggerated this already terrible crime to make it sound even worse. Was that really necessary? Little James and his parents suffered enough pain without the exaggerations and lies.

i have just put my 3 year old twins to bed and am sitting at the computer in the same room. For some reason little James came into my head, got onto youtube and found this tribute. I consider myself a man without a bad bone in his body, but i wish bad things on these now 2 grown men. This tragedy is without doubt the saddest in my 45 years. These 2 men have faulty wiring, they cannot be fixed,look at the news this week, they do not deserve life. Never forget James, and love your children.

What I don't understand, is the fact that these two murderers had beaten and tortured this 2-YEAR-OLD boy to death, and left his body to be sliced in half by a train, received merely 8 years imprisonment.
17 year old Shaun Mercer, murderer of 11-YEAR-OLD Rhys Jones shot him, and killed him in a less inhuman way, yet he, on the other hand got jailed for life.
