  • its not english its scottish

  • @jemma1xx it's a scottish dialect of english not gaelic which is actually scottish.

  • @jemma1xx it's a scottish dialect of english not gaelic which is actually scottish.

  • reminds me of this irish boy asking me in the underground for directions which i tried to give (being german and not living in london made it not quite exact) and the american who was with me asked me afterwards what this guy was saying :D it's not easy really, because it's no accent, it's a dialect..

  • I watched this in 2002 and loved it! After about 10 minutes you get used to there accent! :P

  • What the fuck are these people saying?

  • @MildNarcissist no need to be rude its just how we speak ye know :)

  • Hope it comes with English subs! Looks like a decent film too.

  • @r655321 Funny thing is that it's "technically" in English already but nobody outside of Glasgow/Greenock can understand it.

  • I'm American and I can understand the majority of what they say. During the first 10 or so minutes it's hard to get accustomed to, but by the middle of the film you'll understand it all fine.

  • I'm able to understand strong Scottish accents, so I understood everything in the movie. Great, great movie! And great acting...

  • people say we arnt speakin english but if we can understand and speak to each other like that and do it the way the english do it, surely that means were better at it :) lol and by the way im from edinburgh and i understood EVERY word perfectly, i didnt even think about it, weegies need to get over them selfs, thinkin only they can understand each other, we have the same slang and accent, its just posh as fuk ppl that sound english with rolling Rs lol

  • @TheChowie I think many of the commenters here are American, though. It really is impossible for me to understand except for a word here or there. I understood Trainspotting and Saving Grace (Craig Ferguson) but this is totally different.

  • @theliberalmedia08 Yeah, fair enough, Trainspotting was set in Edinburgh wich has a much easier accent to understand, this film is set in Glasgow, and not only glasgow but a rough area in glasgow so the accent is very strong and pretty differnent to the other citys in Scotland

  • @TheChowie eh its not set in glasgow its acc set in greenock and the port. There is like one scene where it is in Glasgow.

  • how do you people cant understand scottish its just english words

  • Its good that no one but us scots can understand this film thats what makes these things as good :)

  • anyone know where i can download this movie ??

  • As I have read (and re read many times) Maribou Stork Nightmares, Acid House, Trainspotting, Porno, and Filth. Also seen the flicks that followed. I am pretty well versed in Scottish dialect. I think its a cool as fuck sounding lexicon. Words like "polis" "ken" "radge" etc. Sound so right in that accent.

  • Oddly enough, I love the fact that no one bar the Scots can understand any of the accents that are spoken in this movie.

Powerful writing, and a movie almost everyone from the west of Scotland and surrounding area's can relate to - Scotland is still rife in deprivation and drugs, we've been left for the best part of hundreds of years to rot on our own.

  • The only word that sounds English is "fuck" lol

  • I literally only found out it was English whenever they started singing Happy Birthday.

  • OMG i speak english and it was so hard for me to understand!

  • Anyone know the songs name?

  • @MUFC777FELIX Sure, it's "I'll Stand by You" by the Pretenders. I just read through a bunch of the comments, dumbfounded that no one had already answered this for you.

  • I loved this movie, the guy in it is HOT!!!

  • haha, go the Scottish.

  • I'm from Glasgow and I don't talk as bad as this but I'm proud to say it's where I'm from, 'cause there isn't another place that has such as an amazing atmosphere! :)

  • I lent this DVD to someone and never got it back (isnt that always the case)

The dialect is Glasweigian. TBH theres not a less difficult dialect in the English language to understand!

  • @booldawg Yeah Glaswegian is notoriously hard to understand, especially the street slang, which almost another dialect in it's self. Despite that the accent is hard to understand as it is, anybody who sits through the film should be able to follow what's happening.

  • This scotish accent is way too strong!!!!

  • @makhal yeah it is lol but i still might see this

  • haha gotta luv those scottish accents does anyone know if this is a good film?

  • @beautyandnobeast yes , its very good :)

  • @beautyandnobeast its an exellent film very mature

  • wat are u speaking jiberish

  • Wat he just say about my mom! he did not just go there!

  • i just understood "fucking". the other stuff was NOT english xD

  • no way that was english

  • i think this is a scottish accent from glascow

  • Comment removed

  • @jackmlr2007 no am from Fife and a can understand this easy

  • i thought it was Gaelic lol

  • Ok I didn't even realize until "I bought it" at 1:20 that it was in English.

In fact I'd been reading the French subtitles and understanding them that way instead. I am not a native French speaker.

  • wtf.. cant even understand the ..attempt at english.. its like russians tryin to speak einglish and then the subtitles are french.. jeeeez that was a failed attempt to watch the trailer lol

  • @rEDdEaDlAmB ets a scotteesh akcent. wat de fok do ya shaite cunt tink ya ar? aye?

  • this movie is very realistic in modern britan,

my dad is a prison officer in the uk, i also have been a bad lad in my time...

yes the movie is glamorised but which movie is not

    hats off to ken

gr8 movie have it on dvd

  • I think it's a great movie too, tho I couldn't understand that much sometimes... :p

But what do ye mean by the movie bein glamorised? Which part?

  • its the best movie going tbh

  • is a great movie

  • For the first 25 seconds I thought this film was in a different language!

  • Fav film, luv it... cin watch it oer nd oer : )

  • wtf fuck u this movie has a meaning to it and let me guess ur english ur into pointless movies like adulthood which has no point to the movie except trying to look cool and tuff most o the shit from adulthood and kidulthood r shit tht has never happened i mean how the fk has a 16 yr old bully got a organised crime guy to prison hmmm never happened all made up shit but this movie actualy has full realioty to it thrs a reason this got high ratings and adulthood didnt cus adulthood is makebelieve

  • who fucking cares about adulthood, i wouldn't watch shite like that. this film is one of those types of movies that creates the nasty ugly culture it depicts, it goes back in time (like many a gangsta film has also done) and controls spiritually weak and corrupt people, and makes them behave the way the film depicts things. anyone that way will have known about this film going to exist in the future, before it actually existed. that is why those kinds of places become so fucked up.

  • likes i says elsewhere, which -is- why you "co-incidently" replied me here now, right? (i doubt you'll be able to be honest tho if that is true), it's all mk-ultra rubbish. places don't decline like that normally. it's nothing to do with poverty. it's spiritual corruption.

  • i aint trying to sound like a twat but u sound like one of them people that blame movies and games for the way people act

  • in a mundane-reality, no i wouldn't blame the media - people are able to tell right from wrong, and should be able to comprehend that it's just other people too who make films & games etc anyway. BUT - what i wrote previously remains the case; over and above the thin veeneer of what we're meant to see as the real world is what actually makes it all tick, and it's full of evil types who are manipulating the occult sciences that manifest what kind of realities exist.

  • & i did say - it's mk-ultra rubbish & the areas depcited are full of people that know about the media-things before they are even written etc by who would go on to make them. i don't think you caught my gist as to what spiritual corruption (or secret-society controlled 4D emotional-dramas) actually is. i've even spoken with people that know the 'neds' are "clones", it's that obvious. it's a conspiracy of evil. i've seen it 1st-hand and have been to / lived in a bunch of different places.

  • plus the fact you actually wrote 'ur english' - as if there isn't the same thing, with different accents, in loads of places in the rest of the UK too. & yes they're all faked and made to be that way by spiritually-corrupted 'secret societey' cunts as well. they're all possessed. why do you think there are places with people who ensure no-one is able to live a normal life and evolve to a semblance of what living is actually about. the 'proud to be unhealthy and uneducated' conspiracy.

  • i dnt get anythin ur sayin i aint trying to sound like a twat lol but i didnt

but it sounded like uv like got opinions on life style stuff and tht so i respect tht lol

im like tht at times ave my own opinion on matters :)

  • @ItDuz I agreed. Sweet Sixteen is far superior to Kidulthood and Adulthood.

Adulthood was too reminiscent of an action movie, it wanted the viewer to beg for violence. Yeah, it said prison was hard for Sam, but it also put the viewer in a position to cheer Sam on when he was in fights and stuff. It was sort of like the film equivalent to a gangsta rap song.

In Sweet Sixteen, the viewer is intended to pity Liam. Feel his pain. Understand his bad choices but not encourage them.

    Key difference.

  • @whitetrashoutlaw

    Exactly true.

  • @whitetrashoutlaw

Great comment. Great to know there are thinking people out there.

  • @whitetrashoutlaw and it's boring black boy shite, "hurr wht youz yoofs doing doe i fancy black cock so iz talk likz them inti doe" that's all i got from that black english shite.
