just to let you guys know, that HKS sequential bov isn't on that car anymore. i've spoken to the owner at that shop and theres now a FORGE valve to replace it with a really unique setup connecting the uicp and Blow off pipe with the largest diameter ic piping i've seen so far.

and no, that is nothing like compressor surge. all you need is a drop-in filter to get the BOV sound... no need to replace the diverter.

Our Evo X open class rally car has no BOV at all, just the internal wastegate and it chirps. Evo's 'woosh' as soon as you fit an intake but that chatter in the vid sounds very much like the HKS SSQV as stated.

That noise is a bov lol its from hks... I had it on my evo but it started to get annoying. Plus for whatever reason it leaked boost.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. All turbos have wastegates attached to the turbo housing, and they control boost, make no noise because they don't vent air. The other component that all turbos systems have a venting valve to relieve unused pressure. The sound could be one of many types of atmospheric BOV's or likely a diverter valve (the alternative to a BOV).

your wrong. the wastegate isnt always attached to the turbo housing but is best if it is. the waste gate does vent air which is evidently heard in turbo cars with aftermarket wastegates, especially the tial wastegates. but the flutter when he lets off the gas is the wastegate

the wastegate lets out the exhaust pressure when the turbo has compressed the air to the set pressure. the bov or dv lets out the compressed air when the throttle is released. also it is not always better to have the wastegate attached to the turbo due to spiking and possible boost creep.

man you guys are all retarded... how many of you actually have a turbo vehicle that runs a vented blow off valve. I have a HKS ssqv on my 1g and it flutters when it blows off just like the evo in the vid. I have used turboxs bov and tials some of them are a quick whooosh and some flutter like the ssqv. The wastegate only opens up once boost pressure is higher than the spring pressure in the wastegate. chances are also that the wg in the vid dumps back into the exhaust = harder to hear

That's not surge, it's blow-off valve flutter. Surge is something completely different.

No, not all Evos sound like this when they shift. A blow-off valve is a single whoosh sound venting intake air to the atmosphere. The sound on this car is compressor surge/compressor stall which is the reversal of airflow, and the violent expulsion of previously compressed air out through the engine intake. It's not a good thing. Hope this helps.

basically all bolt-ons. Everything from intake, UICP, LICP, intercooler, exhaust, and etc. This stock turbo and NO TUNE. With a tune, the evo X is capable of gaining even more and will reach 400 whp or even more easily.
