  • Interesting but does the Kindle has audio to hear the book your reading like the nook has? Looking to buy but the nook is to expensive and don't know if the kindle has the features to read the book to you.

  • Lol @ the comment below

  • ohh darn, whatever shall we do with .5 seconds slower page turning

  • you know it's sad how companies invest money on how long it takes to turn the page of a nook, just think about it! It's pretty funny, but yeah im getting a nook hopefully soon when i get my money raised up :)

  • tht kindle is big, compared to the nook the nook is really awesome

  • personily idc how long it takes 2 turn pages iam not in no hurry 2 get 2 the next page as long as it turns im okka

  • nookColor is the retarded, fugly, useless, lovechild that the nook gave birth to after being raped by the masculine, god-like, sexy iPad

  • the nook is still better theres only like a little page turning diffrence

  • @koladrea12

Personally, I prefer the Kindle DX to either of the readers featured in this video. I've also got over 700 books on mine and I still have about 2 gigs free.

  • Ok, Kindle takes 0.2s, Nook takes 0.7s. It's still below 1s!! Who cares?

  • @NitroNitrous i am guessing it takes the normal person 1s lol

  • I guess I am old-time thinking but if I pay money for a book, I better be able to hold it in my hands. Whenever I buy a book, it will actually be a paper work. Now with that said, I want a Nook really bad. I like the idea of the touch screen and not dealing with the Kindle Joy Stick. I will be putting open domain books and poems on my Nook, with a few rare exceptions.

  • I don't really see the problem with the page turning time. I mean unless you are actually comparing the Nook to the Kindle you can see a difference but when I am just reading it probably wouldn't bother me.

  • THAT'S the big difference in the speed of the page turn? Jesus Speedy Gonzales, how many people turn pages in real books that fast?

  • Oh my god does it really matter how fast the pages turn I mean come within a second I mean Jesus I have no clue why there's such a debate on Wich one can turn pages faster I mean is it a race for reality. Personally the nook is by far better. Cooler desighn cooler name and much more

  • i like mine and it has updated

  • i like nook because they updated

  • Well I love my nook, I did like reading on actual books but having an eReader is just more practical, lightweight, don't take much space, can load it up with a bunch of things that I can read whenever I want... etc.

  • Is a half second really THAT big of a deal?

  • Just bought one of the new Wi-Fi only units for $ 150.00 Quite an impressive unit, out performs my wife's Sony PRS-500 2nd gen model that I paid $ 350.00 for.

  • @adisharr yeah nook is a mazing

  • The nook now has faster page turning/boot up, looks straight up sexy, bigger screen, less expensive. Suck on that, Kindle.

  • so true

  • @Zombbg4 really? I need fast page turn b/c usually I try to find some information not knowing which page its on

  • @Zombbg4 really? I need fast page turn because c usually I try to find some information not knowing which page its on

  • I was going to buy the kinddle but the nook has so many cool features.... the only turn off is the thickness!!! I want it Kindle-2 thin!

  • These are cool but Id much rather have a REAL book in my hands, that way i dont have to worry about getting a head ace and if you really do love reading books, im sure youd much rather have one to read right from the fresh paper of a real book..

  • @xStephanieRose e-ink doesnt strain your eyes... its like reading a real book, so you have read for hours and hours

  • @xStephanieRose You not going to get a headache (not head ACE =P) from a Nook as they use epaper/eink displays. Headaches are caused by the bright backlighting on devices like laptops, netbooks or the iPad.

The Nook's display is unlit using the light in your room/outside so it shouldn't be any different to reading a normal book. @Ebrithyl's comment was about getting eyestrain/headache's from reading on a laptop which is why they preferred the Nook.

  • @xStephanieRose no the nook is way better than reading a book

  • I love my Nook! I have a laptop that I can read books from. It will do what the Ipad does and so much more. BUT. I can't read on it for hours in a row without getting eyestrain or a head ace, not to mention the portable nature of the Laptop or Ipad compared to a Nook. I can change the color of the back and front of the Nook, add storage or change out the battery. It keeps putting out new updates and improving as well. I think the Ipad is cool but 4 me, the Nook was a great choice. :-)

  • @Ebrithyl i agree

  • nook has a glare? that would really get annoying...

  • looks to me like the nook is processing more words because the screen is bigger, i could be wrong but if thats true its a small price to pay for more words on a screen

  • Is it really that bothersome for you to wait maybe 5 secs longer for a page to turn? Come on, it's 5 SECONDS!

  • they have updated the nook and page flip is faster

  • There's nothing more annoying than being into a book and the page turning is slow. It ruins the whole experience.

  • I think you are using a kodak zi8 there is a buzzing sound coming from the audio. Kodak released a firmware update to fix the problem.

  • I like the Nook a lot better, not to mention the Nook page turning is more realistic, at least for me... not like I'm a fucking speed reader

  • this technology seems sooo outdated, its hard for me to believ that this is the standard for e books, grey screens, not COMPLETLY instant page turning, idk about size or nything ow much they hold but theyre ugly and seem like theyre 5 yars behind where they should be

  • not having color saves battery, and allows for reading in direct sunlight, if you like to read outdoors, its a life saver

  • @mcslover I like the Nook a lot better, not to mention the Nook page turning is more realistic, at least for me... not like I'm a fucking speed reader

  • @mcslover if you mean the colour of the nook, then you should know it's made specially not to glare or go wacky in the sun.

  • @MrWellingtonInc What are you like 5, how many books you read that have multi colored words?

  • @MrWellingtonInc What are you like 5, how many books you read that have multi colored words?

  • @MrWellingtonInc WHat do yuo want??? Colored words.

  • This problem has been resolved with the latest updates. Start up time is now similar to the kindle as is page turn speed. Also, all new units in the stores are pre loaded with the updates.

  • @aaaratings yeah nook is way better device

  • it's all changed for nook now with 1.2 firmware.

  • the flicker between pages is god awful and irritating. Who designed these things? Some 2 bit drop out from industrial design and programing school. Both are a mess.

I'm not an applefan boy but man give me the max-ipad to read over these two any day.

On second thought, I'd just rather buy a real paper book.

  • I agree with the flickering. I wouldn't mind owning an e-reader someday, but I can't stand that flickering, and I don't want to spend $200+ for something that only displays text. I want to see this technology get better.

  • It also uses e-ink technology to make the screen look more like a page from a real book as to not strain your eyes as easily! The nook also has 3 to 4 times as many ebooks available thatn the kindle or sony e-reader, many of wich are free! It also has expandable memory! many other perks as well! Seriously people like this should do REAL research! Not to mention it's still brand new 1st Gen! It will only get better.

  • @racilian exactly! its a 1st generation but it has a great idea and will only improve, honestly who gives a shit bout turn paging time or some shit. 4 times more books, alot of em free, thats what people care bout.

  • @racilian exactly! its a 1st generation but it has a great idea and will only improve, honestly who gives a shit bout turn paging time or some shit. 4 times more books, alot of em free, thats what people care bout.

  • @racilian and it also has the in store coupons, and amazon you can only get books from amazong.

  • I started working at a Barnes & Noble about 2 months ago. I myself have a Kindle i purchased about 3 months prior, and i wish i had waited and gotten a nook instead now. People keep complaining about the speed. seriosuly.. half a second to maybe 2 seconds upsets people that much? That's sad if you are that impatient. Not to mention most people like this never mention the best parts of the nook. it is open to pdf files so you can transfer anything to and from the nook that is in pdf format!!

  • Get a reader that supports an open format i.e. nook, sony's and many more.

  • The kindle dosen't support an open format such as epub. Amazon have also deleted books from the kindle without asking. Search new york times website for "Amazon Erases Orwell Books From Kindle"

Please consider an e-reader that supports open formats such as epub. This includes sony's, the nook and many others.

  • You learn to cope with it. You hit the page turn button on your last few words, and start at the top... I read seamlessly on the nook with no complaints.

The expandable SD slot, and user replaceable battery sold it for me.

  • @robdoar agre 100 percent, you just get used to it. and ive had no complaints, exceot the touch screen being not as resonsive as i want.

  • does speed really matter that much in a ebook? and yes I think this video is made to favor kindle, although it sucks and nook is superior

  • Speed has probably improved with firmware 1.1

  • Honestly, I think all in all, an ebook reader is not that useful and too expensive. What people want is a multitasking device not just a digital book.

  • Skiff is the next cool ereader, with a bendable screen. Google Skiff reader and check it out. Kindle and Nook are gonna have some competition.

  • hahaha, the nook is way better in many ways compared to kindle! Look at the facts ppl.

But OMG! i have to wait half second to turn the page on nook! hahaha. Lame video.

  • im worried about the touch screen at the bottom and the accuracy and the reading not the page turning!

    i WANT IT SO BAD

  • This video was done before the 1.1.0/1 update. The Nook may now actually be speedier than the Kindle. Mine screams!

  • You think that's slow, you should see the touch screen lag.. AWFUL!

  • I have the nook and with the update its faster then in this video.

  • @gvcdkg i want your honest opinion... Is it as good as i read it is?

  • Omg, you have to wait half second more to turn a page, what a GREAT ISSUE!! This video only made to favor kindle, that's it.

  • Unless a user is running them side-by-side, as in this video, I doubt the average Joe will ever notice the nook is a smidge slower...

  • my names not joe its jason

  • hahaha i know right, i have the nook and i dont notice it and i turn a page about the same time as i would the nook, people are getting really nit picky about this stuff its like u wasted a minute of video on that r u serious? come on...

  • May as well forget this vid, Nook fans - they already fixed the issue (slow paging) with firware 1.1. Eat Shit, Kindle(ing) a-holes.

  • are you serious? that isnt even worth posting. it took a half a second longer. im saying this and i own a kindle, and im speaking up for the nook. CR should honestly fire you for making such a bad journalism decision.

  • I'd love to see this comparison with the new nook firmware. I understand the nook got a nice speed boost with the most recent firmware upgrade.

  • Speed issue fixed.

    Firmware update just released.

  • When It's about turning pages, I don't care if it takes one second or three.

  • i dont care i want the nook

  • I'm getting a Kindle. lol

  • oh yeah. the kindle is so much faster... by .5 seconds..

  • I got mine. I love it.

    The nook is smaller overall.

It fits my jacket pockets. That is important to me.

The page turning speed is not a big issue for me.

I wonder if future firmware upgrades will improve the speed.

Selecting sections for highlighting is very slow.

I have a few complaints, but they will all be fixed with a firmware upgrade I think.

  • So what if its slow! Im still gettitng it! Its sick!!

  • you will when you use it. if you read a lot even the kindle is slow. the nook must be agonizing to actually use.

  • no not really, i like it. ive been using it everyday and it doesnt get slower as time goes on, maybe thats a kindle problem...

  • The nook is slower but im still getting it next year. Hopefully it will be available in January.

  • There are comments floating around that B&N has released (as of Dec. 8th) a firmware update that fixes the "formatting" and page refresh times. Can you perhaps confirm this, or compare it to this video? Thanks.

  • I heard that too. There is nothing that cannot be fixed by a firmware update on the nook. I plan on getting one in January.

  • @glhex0r Yup. It was confirmed about 4 days ago.

  • I have a Kindle, and it seems slightly slow to me when I'm ready for the next line, especially in a really good story -- I read really fast, so I'm turning a page every 20 seconds. The Nook would make me angry.

  • this technology is as silly to me as twitter is annoying.
