  • I remember my mum putting on 'Listen with Mother' for me in the mid-70s and I loved the lady's voice and the music.

  • The music sounds eerie with such an echo. Very apt for the footage - ghosts of the past. Whereabouts was Parliament Street and Town Lane in Dukinfield? I can't place them from the footage. I wonder what will replace Senior Service .....

  • @TonyDanza76 Town Lane was the main street of the upper part of Dukinfield leading up to the War Memorial on Chapel Hill.

Parliament Street was nearby, in the shadow of the Queen Mill which is now the site where Morrison's is today.

  • Why were so many buildings demolished in the 1970s? This reminds me of Frank Spencer's house.

  • Sad theyve done this to Moston now.

  • I grew up in Dukinfield in the 50's and 60's. Brings back memories of that time. The pub they were demolishing was the Windsor Cottage. This archive is more relevant if you remember these buildings - its so good that someone took the trouble to record these moments well done.

  • And they are still at it today destroying local historic landmarks and replacing them with the bland!

  • I love the music. Listen with Mother. "Are you sitting comfortably - then I shall begin". Daphne Oxenford was one of the readers. Lovely video and very sad to see old neighbourhoods being destroyed!

  • It's nice you remember Daphne Oxenford, as I do.

    Did you listen in Ireland?

  • Yes indeed - in Dublin, late 50's and early 60's. I think it was on from 1.45 to 2.00 pm.

The Faure piece came at the end - after the story.

  • I do believe Daphne Oxenford is still with us at 87. I met her in the 1980s at recording studio in Manchester where she was doing a voice over.

The Dolly Suite was the play out music at the end of the programme, and I was always pleased if they had time to fill and played it for longer than usual.

  • i work in demolition .wow things have changed,

    nice vid
