My father was in this prison for a year (for car theft) before being paroled in the early 1980s.i asked him about the sugar shack..he said it was a recreation room for when the weather was bad, and they had tvs and pool tables in there.he said alot of fistfights went on in there bc there were no guards in the room at all. i asked him why they call it the sugar shack and he said bc alot of inmates were raped in there, again..bc of no guards.noone ever died in there though.

The claim that the MTV folks are visiting the execution (a.k.a. electrocution) chamber at the Penitentiary is false. The building where the electric chair was used (and prior to that hangings), stood out in the yard of the prison. It was torn down in the late 1960's following the abolition of the death penalty in WV. Now it is the sight of a basketball court. I confirmed this on tour of the prison with a guide who was a retired veteran guard. Dramatic license is being taken here.

That room portrayed on the MTV Fear show is clearly not a death chamber, the dimensions are all wrong, the control panel is missing, there is no sign of witness chairs. The tv crew just used the space there because it was available and made for a spooky segment.

From 7:15 onward, Christina (dark-haired girl in the SugarShack) started 2 freak out-her videocam light went out at the same time all the other lights in that area went out when she heard a loud movement like someone coming down the hallway or a stomping or someone running around. I believe that movement she heard was paranormal. I don't see how a person can run around in pitch darkness or run up & down a stairs in pitch black darkness. That movement was probably a genuine paranormal presence

With MTV, you always have to suspect staging of some kind, be it rigged sound generation or otherwise. No one should go into a building like that unless they're wearing a hard hat - falling debris can kill or injure. Hmm, I'm not sure. Irregardless, the "chair" used in this show was unquestionably just an MTV-planted piece which was there to enhance the "scary" factor of the show. The first two episodes were quite interesting...but if you really watched the second season, it was absurd. It was obviously faked, and there are websites all over the place which point out the various staged parts of the show.
