Just a question... from 04 and up wouldn't the songs which didn't even make it to the final (IE last place in the semi final(s)) be considered more last place than the last place in the final?

1981 - More JESC than ESC 1982 - Ancient version of Lordi 1983 TUR - Not so bad. Sounds catchy 1983 SPA - Incompatible with 1983 tastes 1984 - Mediocre 1985 - Boring 1986 - Not bad 1987 - Nothing special 1988 - Boring 1989 - Not bad 1990 ICE - Likeable 1990 NOR - Likeable 1990 FIN - cheesy 1991 - Mediocre 1992 - Catchy chorus 1993 - Cute 1994 - Emotional ballad. Undeserved last place 1995 - The songs is not for last place, but it was performed bad live. 1996 - Likeable
I actually like Spain 1983, Cyprus 1986, Turkey 1987, both Finland and Norway 1990 (!), Austria 1991, Finland 1992, Belgium 1993 (!), Portugal 1997 (!), Belgium 2000, Norway 2004, Malta 2006 (!) and UK 2008 very much. Great, underrated entries.
The UK coming last in 2008 was ridiculous. I'm not surprised Terry Wogan had a rant and immediately retired from Eurovision after that stupid result. It was a very good song and Andy Abraham is a great singer and performer.
it doesn't seem fair to call the last few "last place", when so many scored worse in semi finals... czech republic for example was truly last place with a 1 pt (?) in semi final.
Besides... Waldo's people charted in both UK and Australia with "Lose Control", so that's a pretty good last place. Not too many of the songs that beat it charted!
Malta's entry was disappointing last, but he did not sing well that night.
Spain 83 and Germany 2005 were misunderstood. I love Cyprus 86, Finland 96 and Spain 99. But the best was Portugal 97. I don't see anything wrong with Norway 2004 and 1991, UK 2008 and Ireland 2007.
PS! Keep on mocking Norway, what would you heat your houses and food with if not Norwegian Gas and Oil? Don't bite that hand that feeds you :))) Now go get busy being bankrupt... hehe. I'm SO damn happy we're not a member of the EU... a collection of bankrupt countries! LOL! Ah! It feels sooooo good to live in Parad... eh... sorry.. Norway!
@Norway4Me well, i´m spaniard. i say to you that spanish song (83) it´s one of the best flamenco song ever. The first flamenco song fusion...but for this contest i understand that people don´t understand it...
Spain 1983: What you don't seem to understand, and what the juries back then didn't understand either, is that it's flamenco, a traditional Spanish music form. It's not supposed to be a "beautiful" song in a conventional sense. But it has a big fan following among ESC fans today.
Austria 1984: I like this much more than many other entries that year, including the overrated runner-up from Ireland.
Austria 1988: They might not have chosen the best singer, but it still was a sweet song.
Finland 1996: A very nice song with ethno influences. It sure deserved a better placing.
Norway 1997: People seem to either hate this song or adore it. But I like it very much, even if it got 0 points.
Malta 2006: Malta has had success with other artists than Chiara (Mary Spiteri and Ira Losco come to mind). The song is better in the studio version than in this live version, but still, it deserved a better placing.
Finland 2009: Waldo's people can sing and the song does NOT suck.
Well these are you opinions, and i support your right to express them even though i totally do not agree with you.
Finland 2009, the girl that sings, has a very very flat voice, makes the song very... in lack of better words, boring!
I think that many of these songs as you mention is not at all ESC material, but they are okey, but im seeing through the ESC glasses, and they are not approved when i look through them!
What's wrong with you? Am I not allowed to have an opinion? Just because a song came last, even with 0 points, it doesn't mean, that everybody has to hate it.
iceland 01, norway 04 and germany 05 really didnt deserve to come last! but the way i see it is, the ones that come last arent the hated ones- they're the ones that wasn't good enough for anyone to vote for.
@trisssy1 if u look at the semi final voting, finland actually did not even come 10th... montenegro did (and this year they refused to come... wonder why?) jury voted finland into final instead of montenegro... so voters were not going for it!
@rainboworbit i know, i was just saying they didn't desrve to be last, that's all, i know that they were voted by the jury, i just thought it was real good song
Lets face it.. The nordic countries, finland, the benelux and austria/germany have a pretty bad track record for this competition.. but we try, and try, and try again.
@bonzaworld what's the matter with u people? u all mention 1983 *SPAIN* wtf? that song is freakin HORRIBLE. as for 1983 turkey, on the other hand, that song was AWESOME!!! :D really catchy and uplifting ^^
Turkey would have finished top 5 in 1987 had the conductor not screwed up and put everything out of sync, now you know why we never saw Garo Mafyan at Eurovision ever again!
When you see some the songs the countries send to Eurovision Song Contest i often think WTH was the songs that lost in the national Contest like. I am from Norway and we have sendt some real crap to the Contest over the years, the ones in this clip i dont think are not the worst ones we have sendt.
I think the idea is to show which countries came last in the FINALS since 2004, just like in previous years when the Contest was a one-night show.

Traurig ich spreche nicht Deutsch, habe ich einen Internetübersetzer benutzt.

this is my top ten(the songs i think shouldn't became last or have more points) 1 spain 1983(spain is my country ) 2 spain 1999 3 finland 2009 4 switzerland 1998 5 austria 1984 6 portugal 1997 7 iceland 1989 8 norway 1990 10 iceland 2001 and 12 for... MALTA 2006
Totally deserved last places: Spain 1983, Norway 1997 and UK 2003.
Totally unfair last places: Iceland 1989, Norway 1990, Belgium 1993, Germany 1995, Finland 1996, Switzerland 2000 and above all IRELAND 2007! Dervish weren't great live, but they were absolutely no last-place material!
And I think it's so scandalous og not fair, that Waldo's People from Finland 2009got the last place in the final. It was one of the best of the best at year!!!!!!!!!!
And also like United Kingdom 2008. It shoulded also have a higher place!!!
The last placed songs are not that bad in the recent years, since the worst songs (even good songs!) don't reach the final. (They Can't Stop The Spring is among my favorites from 2007 and I like Lose Control from 2009, too.) I would finish this compilation at the point where qualification was introduced or continue with the last placed songs of the semifinals.
To tkrisz: Until 2007, the top ten from the previous year were automatic qualifiers, so only from 2008 onward do we really have a weeding-out of bad songs in the semis.
And They Can't Stop The Spring was absolutely horrendous performed live. It says something when the voice sounds more grating than what Jemini did in 2003...
Last year when Finland finished last I lost all hope in ESC.

I`m from Germany and i think we really deserved our last places in 1995 and 2005, the Songs we`re absolutely a disaster! ;-)
I think UK 2003 is a good song, but the Live Performance was bad, on Cd it sounds much better!

Malta 2006 DEFINATELY didn't deserve last place at all!!! That was one of the BEST that year! SHOULDN'T BEEN LAST!!!
2008 UK deserved a higher placing too.
2009 Finland is another that DEFINATELY didn't deserve last place!
2003, yes we deserved that one, I'm ashamed of this! and 2007 too, very bad.

To TumbleTower: I could not bee more agree!
And I think it's so scandalous og not fair, that Waldo's People from Finland 2009got the last place in the final. It was one of the best of the best at year!!!!!!!!!!
And also like United Kingdom 2008. It shoulded also have a higher place!!!

Malta's song in 2006 was a beautiful ballad which deserved much higher than last place.

1983 (Turkey), 1992, 2003 and 2008
had deserve it.
1982, 1984, 1988, 1990 (Norway), 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2004, 2007 and 2009
were not great, but deserved a better place.
1986, 1987 and 2006 were fantastic songs, they had deserved it no way.
SchatzJaeger333 2 years ago 3
I think that the most deserved last places were in 2003 and 2005.
The song by Dervish is great when you hear it playback but live it wasn't good (same with 2005)
I like many of the songs, but I wouldn't say that they deserved a much higher place. These are to me: 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1996
Other songs I like didn't deserve to become last place. These are: 1993, 1997, 2000, 2001 (Norway), 2004, 2008, 2009

Dervish didn't deserve to become last.. they are such a great band and Cathy is a lovely singer.. their music just isn't made for the ESC...

Well, Nuku Pommiin was too jarring to ever garner votes from jurys. And that suit probably didn't help matters.
AegeanSea06 2 years ago
The last placed songs are not that bad in the recent years, since the worst songs (even good songs!) don't reach the final. (They Can't Stop The Spring is among my favorites from 2007 and I like Lose Control from 2009, too.) I would finish this compilation at the point where qualification was introduced or continue with the last placed songs of the semifinals.
tkrisz 2 years ago 5
To tkrisz: Until 2007, the top ten from the previous year were automatic qualifiers, so only from 2008 onward do we really have a weeding-out of bad songs in the semis.
And They Can't Stop The Spring was absolutely horrendous performed live. It says something when the voice sounds more grating than what Jemini did in 2003...

a new version this is better.
