Im sure it was Patton that W.C. Handy heard do the blues first befor claiming it for himself. Patton was the first blues recording star. Although there where other's out there,Patton was more popular.
I don't see how any blues lover could deny this.. sure the lyrics aren't exactly pitch perfect, but the guitar work, slides, and rising tempo are masterful!
