on the 05:20 when you areshowing the inside ventilation system...what is that hole next to the ventilation mesh on your left side(viewers right side)??? Thank you!!!
i must say after having the ranger hoodie i say that it was quite worth it it has a very high build quality, looks good, and warm enough for me just to wear this in mn during winter
I loved your review, I was wondering how heavy is the material? i was thinking about getting the LT but from what you've shown me it seems to be alright.
@chanderson1 Thanks for the tip, i do live in New Jersey, the weather gets cold however in the fall or spring its still fairly warm. I think i'll go with this one though, thank you!
considered one myself but decided on helikon patriot fleece instead as it's one fifth the price in UK for nearly the same specs (not quite as nice but almost so can't complain at only £50)
I live up in Connecticut and it has kept me REALLY warm up until 0 degrees, and then it gets slightly chilly. just wear a sweater or fleece liner under it, and you're good for really cold temperatures.
I just bought this hoodie from Triple Aught Design (TAD) and it is amazing, super warm, the inside is softer than the outside. But mine does not have the elbow reinforcements that your has which i guess is just the new style of newest model. Awesome review will be posting a review of mine soon.
@HorrorHank I've had a chance to use mine for the past two weeks here and its is very comfortable and warm. Some of my friends have big bulky jackets and the TAD gear looks much better and probably outperforms their jackets.
most backpacks have a waist belt for more support. This is why the pockets are up high. If they were in the same position as a regular jacket it would be difficult to get into them
This hoodie looks remarkably similar to the much simpler NATO/British Army issue 'Norwegian' pullover which is lined with a special very miniature loop threading which imitates natural wool to a great extent.I had purchased one recently which is supposed to be worn directly over the skin and can be worn under anything else. There has been seriously cold weather in Britain recently, this simple design is very effective against the cold.
a brief comment on why this sweater dosen't have pockets down buy the waist for your hands. this product is somewhat identical to ones issued to US ARMY soldiers. Witch means that it conforms to the standard that soldiers are not suposed to have there hands in there pockets. a wierd rule i know but i dont make the rules....i just follow'em. the loops at the bottom of the sleeves are to keep them kind of "tucked" into the top of your gloves....just puttin in my 2 cents.
@johndancel the pockets are up high so you can still have access to them while wearing a backpack with a hip belt. its a common design for outdoor clothing.
nice jacket! i bought this jacket thinking there wasn't going to be a difference between this special fleece and another fleece, but i was proved wrong.
@luzac159 I've actually worn this while visiting a friend in Minnesota and that night it was -7 below zero and this fleece jacket worked perfectly. It was amazingly warm in that cold condition.
@chanderson1 Is this good for the cold weather for Minnesota? i live here and im thinking about getting there Shag master fleece and wondering if it'll be fine for the weather.
@thentantt I've heard the Shag master fleece was warmer than the ranger hoodies. I wore two polyester layers under my ranger hoodie and was perfectly comfortable there. I think at the time the temps got down to about 1 or just a little below.
I own a Helikon Patriot Jacket (it's a polish manufacture).
It is a direct "copy" of the TAD Ranger hoodie (from what I can compare by the video).
This jacket has nearly the same pocket(sizes), sunshield etc.
But the Patriot just have one Ipod pocket in the right chest pocket. It does not bother me.
What I can say is, that the Patriot might have a better ventilation, because it has long zippers on both sides (not these tiny holes of the TAD version).
@VAMPIRUSxJV Hey man ! I went to bestarmy(dot)cz and found patriot and i dont speak your language , i live in sweden so maby you know if the send to sweden ? Peace
@VAMPIRUSxJV Hey man ! I went to bestarmy(dot)cz and found patriot and i dont speak your language , i live in sweden so maby you know if they send to sweden ? Peace
@markeii I'm from Germany. Helikon has a retail store here. I don't know, if they would send it to you.
Try to get a shop nearby (maybe a web store).
Or you have to get more to use the whole shipping rate.
i got the parka, the gloves and the patroit jacket from Helikon. The Classic Army jacket is just a normal softshell. Nothing special (so you can get it cheaper somewhere else).
@VAMPIRUSxJV Ok i see .. I found a helikon retail webstore in germany and they ship to sweden :) So i´m gonna order the patriot jacket soon. My plan was to use the patriot fleece jacket as an underlayer and the softshell as a outerlayer . But now you mentioned the parka and i´m concidering to buy that one as a outerlayer instead. Is the parka water and wind resistant ? Witch material do you have ? 50% Nylon / 50% Cotton OR 100% Cotton ? Is it big in size?
I''m 1,73m tall and weight 73kg. I wear small (on both) ... I use the parka less then the patriot because it is enough for me. But you can use the parka as a hardshell with the patroit.
There is only one option for the parka available!
The patriot is NOT wind proofed. It keeps you warm a bit. If it is very cold, I use a wind breaker from 5.11 (packable jacket). It is small and fits into the rear pocket.
@VAMPIRUSxJV I´m sorry it´s alot of questions, but i really need to know before i order. It will get expencive to send back and forth if it does´nt fit .. Thank you for the reply !
I have the TAD ranger, predator and the spectre, I also have Condor's soft shell and fleece. Both the condor products added together dont come to half of what I paid for the spectre. The Condor jackets are well made, good products, however they are NOTHING compared to TAD's quality, however TAD is nothing compared to Arc'teryx... I have had huge problems with the zippers on Condor products. The zippers are not bound internally which is a pain, nothing worse then trying to fix broken zippers.
@ACScibetta Arc'teryx are top notch. I have had several of their jackets and outerwear and have been pleased and in my opinion well worth the money. TAD and Arc'teryx both have pros and cons.
I got an order pending for TAD Gear, will see how their stuff is once it gets here. Wouldn't mind the Ranger but... it has no armpit vents, right? I'd prefer to have an universal layering/everyday fleece, suitable for both office work and high-speed activity - but most fleeces I've had don't really breathe that well. Which usually means the inside turning into a rain forest with any physical activity.
@Blackscorpy their products are top notch and very well known in the spec ops community. If your looking for a very breathable fleece, look for their MERINO line of jackets. Very lightweight and breathable.
@chanderson1 Yeah, I got Force10s and the Shag Master hoodie (for the winter) en route. Any idea of the Condor stuff - they're available via a local dealer, seem to be better than the Chinese copies and cost around 30-50% of TADs prices. Plus a few items in their line seem to have armpit vents.
I do have the ECWCS Gen II fleece jacket (with vents!), but it's certainly just a layering item for me.
@Blackscorpy I have both the CONDOR softshell, and fleece jackets. They are copies of TAD designs, but at this point, I am not sure which jackets. But for the price (The Softshell cost me $80 and the Fleece $35) they are a damn good deal! Both jackets work together too, with the fleece been worn under the softshell.
Granted, they aren't as good quality on materials, specially zippers, and fabrics. But the stitching and build is excellent. And again, they cost a 5th or 4th the price.
From what I've heard, Condor is a good alternative, but if you have the money, I'd highly recommend TAD Gear over Condor. I own two of their Stealth Jackets, Recon Hoodie and a pair of Force 10s.
very nice review did you get this directly off the site or did you go to a local store and do you think that the material the jacket is made out of can handle some rain because during the winter i ride to school which is a 30 minute ride on my bike and there we get light rains where i live
I own both condor and tadgear jacket. They may look similar but the fabric is so much different. If you got money to spare i would say go for tad but if money is tight then condor isnt a bad idea either.
@rocktruggy03 I own a couple of packs by condor..they are really good quality for a good price (However I have see better quality) But I think for the clothing I will go with Tadgear ( I might need to get both as I'm considering opening a sporting goods store just to weigh the pros and cons of each...But a product being made in the USA is always a plus)
Coz, I don't want to buy replica or China version stuff. However, it is amazing if the price lower down to attack more customer like blackhawk or 5.11
@DT5236 You have a very good point! There are other options out there well worth the money. Condor has made a replica and I have heard many great things about their products.
god, these things are soo expensive even on ebay! grrrr, i guess ill have to wait until my tutoring job really kicks in. right now, i only have enough money for a bullet belt. one of my friend has one of these and he says its amazing.
Yeah, they do ask an arm and a leg for these, but IMO they are worth every penny. These will last you a lifetime of heavy duty use. Top quality all the way.
Thanks. Yes the fast pack vid will be out shortly. Its been a hectic week with work and trying to finish up my holiday shopping, but I will definetly have that up soon. Thanks for your patience
i saw a comment you made about owning the fast pack and force 10 pants. it would be most excellent if you did something similar with those items as you did with the ranger hoodie here on youtube. those items are hard to find on video.
Sure! I've got a few videos i need to upload first and then I'll do the force10 and fastpack. I've not seen either one one youtube. Thanks for the idea!
Your review is dead on accurate. I was at the annual TAD Gear December sale in SF this past weekend and got the Ranger Hoodie V.5 in black. The materials and construction are solid. Very warm and very well made compared to other polar fleece jackets I've owned. Thanks for the review. This will be my primary jacket I will wear all fall and winter.
I dont think the 511 has fleece has a hood, shoulder pockets, velcro on the arms for patches, or the rear kangaroo pockets. They say they have abrasion resistant elbows, but the TAD Gear hoodie actually has material over the fleece in the elbow areas.
I prefer the TAD Gear hoodie myself. It is a bit more in price, but I think the quality reflects in the price. The fleece is also a tighter knit which makes a a little more windproof. The quality is amazing if you can get your hands on one. Good luck.
Great vid. I have a TAD Stealth v4.0 in M.E. Green with a Ranger v5.0 on the way. If you are in need of a soft shell, TAD's cant be beat. What other Tad Gear do you have? Would love to see vids of it also.
Thanks, I wanted to get the stealth at first, but they were out of stock at the time. I also have the F.A.S.T. Pack, Force10 Cargos and some smaller items. Hopefully I'll get some time to do a video on them. Thanks for leaving a comment.
No problem. How do you the like the Force 10 cargos? I have been considering picking up a pair or 2. Lucky for me I can go to the TAD shop in person as they are located about 1/2 hr from where I live.
I have a backpack in that color, and here in MN it is a little light in the summer and parts of the fall, but kicks ass in the winter, spring and 75% of the year. I would feel that it would be a good desert color and it works great in long tanish graasses.
Good video. I'm a TAD Gear fan as well. Just a couple of points. Tad Gear is based out of San Francisco.. They just released version 5 of the jacket, selling for $202. Its basically the same jacket, but no elbow patches in the new version and the sizing is more accurate. Awesome stuff.
I'm in KW I won't be able to wear my Pathfinder hoodie for a couple of months yet. I love their stuff. Check out their Force 10 cargo shorts and pants. High quality and well thought out. Great review Chanderson, keep em coming.
This might be a dumb question, but where is KW? I also have a pair of the force 10 cargo pants. Was thinking of doing a video on it. I've got several things from TAD gear and everything is of high quality. Although some items are way above my price range. Thanks for the comment.
I love my hoodie. It feels like I'm walking around in my pajamas.

No problem. How do you the like the Force 10 cargos? I have been considering picking up a pair or 2. Lucky for me I can go to the TAD shop in person as they are located about 1/2 hr from where I live.

Great video! I've been thinking about getting one of these but I wish it had pockets for your hands.

yeah, but you get use to using the chest pockets. It works out.

I have a backpack in that color, and here in MN it is a little light in the summer and parts of the fall, but kicks ass in the winter, spring and 75% of the year. I would feel that it would be a good desert color and it works great in long tanish graasses.

They call this color "M.E. Green" , M.E. stands for Multi-Enviornment. I like it actually, but I only wish it was a bit darker.
