  • for the old and miserable at heart who diss this clip....shame on you. I LOVE IT!

  • We will smash it, we will bugger it, we will break it in two two two

  • I never saw Bagpuss as a child. I first saw it at the age of 21 - an adult watching a children's show, with no nostalgia from my own childhood. I still thought it was awesome! Just goes to show that, well, Bagpuss is awesome!

  • I have all the episodes on DVD xD I'm 17 lol x

  • @LolitaLollyLips your lucky I only have Bagpuss & the clangers series 1, still looking to get Ivor the engine, Clangers Series 2 and the rest of the work of Oliver Postgate :(

sigh - wish they were repeart on TV :( thank god for youtube :)

  • BUT WHAT WAS INSIDE IT?

  • @Spectic It was a ship

  • BEAUTY:..

  • ... so this is a shop that dosent sell anything, and a little girl lives there with her toys.. if im wrong please correct me but... is that not a house

  • Genius

  • The song of the mice is based on 'Sumer is icumen in', a round from c. 1240.

  • aww i used to love this i was born in 1995 go the 80's and 90's kids lol :)

  • @QueenReigns1

It doesn't ring any bells. Maybe you could link to an audio clip of it?

  • @tonyatkin

Got it thanks..he says..." Dearest Mice We love You All ", now perhaps she'll go to sleep. lol

  • @QueenReigns1 I have that! it's exactly that, 'dearest mice, I love you all.'

  • 2 people don't have the real Beatle. That's what you hear when this is played backwards.

  • This song has been going through my head for ages!! the tune lol....i love bagpuss 8) <3

  • This is so darn CUTE!!!

  • I want this as a ringtone!!

  • top top top

  • After many years of trying to uncover the secret of bagpuss mouse language...I can finally reveal what they were saying in this song...

    Squeak, squeak, squeak

    Squeak, squeak, squeak

    Squeak, squeak, squeak

Unfortunately when I went to interview the mice I had restricted access due to biscuit fraud, which is 5 years solitary imprisonment. As mice live far shorter lives than 5 years I was unable to conduct the interview I wanted to due to the fact that none were alive any longer.

  • See, Oliver Postgate could have told us something about re-using and recycling today - never throw anything away if it can be washed or mended. Oliver Postgate, eco-warrior!

  • WTF

  • R.I.P Muff-Muff Mingle.

  • we will wash it !

  • I've just heard it for the first time in my life and this tune gives me the shivers. Lovely.

  • what was inside I NEED TOO KNOW!

  • Lol. A ship! A ship! :)

  • Makes me want to do the washing up.

  • this is the same tune as the clangers one about glue isnt it? lmao xD

  • BAGPUSS FOR PRESIDENT

  • noooo. bagpuss would be awful. Yaffle should be

  • Thanks for posting - I've had this buzzing in my head for the last 30years or so

  • A thing of simple beauty, making this 41 year old smile with joy.

  • oh how cute!!!

  • i got 2 videos of bagpuss

    im a sado

  • I love how the little mice sing in rounds.

  • well the tune they're singing is a medveil tune called "summer is i coming in loudy sing cuckoo cuckoo" and yes it's a round song for 4 voices.

  • I believe it was called the Sumer Canon...

    "Sumer is Icumin in..."

It actually was the earliest discovered written piece of music that included the word "fart," or "uerteþ" in middle English.

  • They are very cute but their voices are kind of annowing :/

  • One of the songs in your life, your never forget!!

  • nowadays Bagpuss would be killed off in focus groups. Same goes for all Oliver Postgates fabulous little films. He never ever talked down to children. A genius.

  • most kids tv didn't - even in the 90s. Its only like 1999 when kids TV started to get crappy. E.G pingu, fireman sam, postman pat etc/

  • Indeed, come back 80s kids TV all is forgiven, none of this Teletubbies shite.

  • cute!

  • I love The Mice on The Mouse Organ. They are so cute.

  • brilliant

  • Soooooooooooo CUTE!!!!!! I <3 Bagpuss Mice!!

  • Yes... oh yes xD!!!

  • I've been killed by cuteness! XD

  • im 40 ..sitting here singing along next to my american bf whos wondeing im sure why hes with me.....

yet i feel for him...he missed a masterpiece as a child ...BAGPUSS ...named my daughter after emily aswell :)

  • The tune is the from the very ancient English song "Sumer is Icumen In". (trans "Summer is a-comin' in")

  • We will wash it, we will splosh it!!!!!! yeaaaah

  • is very emotional, heart warming!

  • I don't know if I ever watches Bagpuss as a child. I heard this song, on some show on tv about the 100 greatest kids tv shows or something, for the first time a few weeks ago. I don't know why but it really struck a cord with me and I've listened to it nearly everday since. It's just such a wonderful melody.

  • Thank you Oliver wherever you are - you shaped childhoods everywhere...

  • I love these little mice :-) I wish we had Bagpuss on T.V. in the U.S. when I was growing up. So sweet!

  • Definitely although I wasn't around when it was first on we were still raised on Bagpuss and the clangers :D pure brilliance.

  • YES! We love the mice and poor Professor YAffle - always derided by spinster for sure Madeleine and that frog who really thought he was something special - all because he played a banjo.

  • Haunting after nearly 40 years but timeless goodness. Bagpuss should be on national earlyyears curriculum!
