i think you DO get to choose how you feel, you do get to choose to feel happy or sad, to some extent. optimism vs. pessimism, looking at the glass as half empty or half full, finding the silver lining on the cloud, etc.... all those cliche metaphors. you can look at the shitty aspects of life and think how much they suck, or you can look at the good things that come out of them. if something in your life sucks, you can fail because of it, or you can succeed in spite of it.

Realizing you can change your life in an instant is something that comes at an early age. Acting on it at a whim is a little different. It seems simple on paper and then when you start, you realize you didn't quite see what you needed to do.
