The organization called itself Planned Parenthood for a reason. What does is whether getting services from a public fire & police department is better & cheaper than getting those same services from the private sector through competition & contracts. i'd let them preach about abstinence on the condition that condoms and sex-ed keep getting to the stupid clueless teens that need to be educated. a teen that doesnt fuck is a teen that doesnt have a chance of being an unplanned parent, or acquiring stds.

All it does is breed uneducated people that have sex ANYWAY only now it was unplanned, unthought out and without precaution. The fact is like is about game theory and doing the math. Abstinence works in theory, but in practicality it egregiously fails.

@sabin97 In conclusion, if your goal is to stop pregnancy (unwanted such) then you have to look at the data. In systems where abstinence is applied there are MORE births due to the lack of precaution. It purely DOESN"T work - the notion needs to be abandoned.

The point SE Cupp made, and this is the best point of them all, is that PP cannot differentiate between the money it receives in public funding and the private donations. It is the equivalent of a city like San Francisco, which has city-wide welfare programs that it cannot afford, going to the state government and asking for money to offset its budgetary shortfall to pay for "police and firefighters" in the city. It falls under Public Health and Safety which is the main roll if not the only practical roll for government. It is no different from your police officers, firemen or even more closely related the Center of Disease Control. And, if you are right and it is just like police and firefighters, then it should be locally funded through local taxes and not through federal tax dollars. However, the difference is that the city doesn't run Planned Parenthood - it is a private business. How can you equate them with police? But even if you could, it would only mean it should be locally funded.

I actually worked in government with the City of New York for about 5 years and it was a joke! The waste was unbelievable! What does is whether getting services from a public fire & police department is better & cheaper than getting those same services from the private sector through competition & contracts. I believe it would be better and cheaper from the private sector. Government (whether local, state, or federal) is an inefficient, wasteful entity that makes decisions based on politics not what's best for the people it's supposed to serve.

Who does S.E. Cupp think she is fooling? Planned Parenthood has never been allowed to use federal funding for abortion. These cuts were for women's health initiatives to include regular pap smears (to prevent cervical cancer). It was misguided at best and cynical politics at worst. Cupp demonstrates a complete ignorance of medicine and policy. It's pretty bad when Jerry Springer looks like the rational one.

I am not sure why people cannot separate the two issues of abortion, and the federal funding of abortion. Let people do what they want, but do not ask me to pay for it. And no, just because money is being spent on other things that the govt has not business being in does not mean it is okay to spend it on PP.
