I'm sure that she did come across as a big bore, especially at parties... she didn't want random people talking to her all the time just because she was "Garbo" ... That was her tactic, I just know it.
i still to this day at 21 years old WISH i was old enough at the time to be able to catch a glimpse of Garbo on the streets of new york, I travel to the city every three weeks and occasionally walk to her building on E 52nd St, I still at sometimes wish I could be walking down 2nd ave and just brush by her and look her in the eye for half a second, I love Dick's story so much, and Garbo, she's a legend
Wouldn't it have been wonderful if he could have told the great Garbo story with out the benefit of the horrible Charlie Rose interrupting and layghing inanely?
Dick Cavett probably had the greatest interview programs ever. He really let the guest talk. Back in the day those who were hip watched him rather than Carson(this is not meant as a put down of Carson, just very different type of show)
Well, I for one ,am quite surprised by this interview -- I would certainly have guessed that a gentleman as well-educated and worldly as Mr. Cavett would immediately,on-sight know the difference between an avocado & an artichoke! R.J.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Dick, for the memories and the stories! nora
