Wife and I were at TOMBSTONE AZ on the 5th of July---visited my ma who lives in Mesa AZ and will be 99 on the 2nd of Aug---she was born in ND and when she was born, AZ as not a State yet---that happened Feb 14 1912...we drove from Everett WA and we have to move as ma wants us there in Mesa...
This is one of the better videos to show us the town store by store. Kind of a tourist trap but heck - I'm a tourist. I like the place a lot. History you can touch and eat and drink. Too many historic places are like a funeral home. Tombstone is a busy place to have fun with.
@yellowrose011 Welcome pard; thanks for the comment---did u notice at the beginning of this vid the painting showing the Earps walking in what appears to be snow? It is sleet and at ~2:30 the shootout happened; at 3 PM it started snowing there in Tombstone AZ. NOTE: they had tennis courts, swimming pools and telephones at the time---neither of the films that came out in the mid 90s put any of that in.
Shootout: Oct 26 1881-Tombstone AZ....Oct 1 1881--William Boeing was born--MN
@1967mustanggta Agree it is a 'tourist trap' but if they did not sell the items they have there, Tombstone would make no money and would dry up and blow away...from what I have learned very little funds come from the State---the money generated to run Tombstone comes from the city itself and those that live there---property taxes and such + their business to tourists...
@rangeclerk Yeah, When I was there last the State was going to cut off continued funding for the Historic Courthouse so the town has taken it over for theirselves. They do alright. No, I'm not attacking Tombstone - the opposite - I love the place and had a good time there and look to go back again someday.
@1967mustanggta I didn't think u were...wife & I were there last Jly 5 2010 & depending on what a person wants to buy the prices were reasonable; in fact cheaper then other places not at Tombstone---for some of them own the building...there was a model shop with electric trains that was way out of line on their prices though...an "N"scale of an 1869 train set I own for ~100.00 they had priced at $160.00+!
When we move to AZ we want to stay about 2-3 days in Tombstone...
@rangeclerk I went in there. I'd expect the rent makes the place not condusive for one selling model railroads but it was fun to check it out. I understand people coming out of Tombstone with a duster or boots and their belly full of steak and beer but model railroads?
And personally I have always loved model railroading (used to model C&EI - I'm from the midwest)
@1967mustanggta In one of the gift stores near the store where they make and sell holsters, spurs found earings for my wife and my mom..sterling siliver and the price was around 12-15 dollars and sharpers (covered wagon, stagecoach), lower prices then what, for the same item at a regular store in Mesa AZ. Didn't buy them buthe spurs were reasonable price around $50....
I few yrs ago with mom we went to JEROME and purchased items there which were lower in cost then Sedona.
@1967mustanggta Grew up in Montana then folks moved to OC CA where I ended up working for the OC Sheriff's Dept & retired. Wife and I moved to Everett and now in the process of packing to move to Mesa. When I was a kid my dad use to build his own model HO scale trains & have some premade sets and one Lionel. The JUPITER & ENGINE 119 met in Utah in May 1869---Major Event and they partied in London & Paris when it happened. About 2 mos-100 yrs later another Major Event happened---what was it?
@rangeclerk I can only tjink of landing on the moon but that didn't happen in Utah - although it almost looks like it could have. Manson was in the summer of 69 but I wouldn't put it in that catogory.
@1967mustanggta Well your first answer was the correct one; July 20th 1969! The same Nation that just 100 yrs ealier had completed the First Transcont RailRoad (Cowboy & Indians era) within 100 yrs landed upon the yellow-whitish orb that circles the Earth! Concerning Utah---Promontory where the rails wedded this Nation in Iron---about 8miles from that town is the company that builds the SRBs for the Space Shuttles---
