As miroku said, Yammy is 10 till release, it seems Yammy can variate his full power by storing energy at a much faster rate than a conventional hollow/arrancar can, when he stores the energy he grows in size. When he releases his sword, he uses all of the energy hes stored at once to fight, becoming espada 0 upon release, which probably stands for the fact that given time, he could store an infinite amount of power. Oh and I still beleive grimm to be alive, ulqui is unfortunatly toast tho.

Listen, there are errors in this logic. In the anime, I'm not sure about the manga, when Grimmjow first invades Ichigo's town, he has the oldest Arrancar with him, number 11. Number 11 explains that any number below him is ESPADA. Now if I remember correctly, even Yammy said there are only 10 ranks in the espada. So logically, it's flawed. One of them is wrong. Either Yammy is just fat, or Espada has 11 ranks and 10 members, one sharing two ranks.

Yami is actually the highest rank Esparda! He's number 0. The Esparda are actually numbered 0-9, not 1-10.

He's number 10 when he's sealed, but when he finally releases, his number changes to 0. He's the only Arrancar who's number actually changes when he's released!
