  • Are these SAR or AIRR?

  • this is also my Navy job!!!!!

  • i was in week 3 of this school when I was medically DQ'd Long story

  • Navy Rescue swimmers can train (depending on the pipeline) for ASUW, ASW, PR and SOF just to name a few. Thats why they do overland rescues, water rescues, personnel recovery, and special operation mission's. You see guns in the video because the crewman was most likely training for ASUW. Navy Rescue swimmers do it all. If you don't know those acronyms google them.

  • @legryder navy rescue swimmers do NOT do any special operations missions or SOF missions. in fact we do not do any type of direct action missions at all the closest navy rescue swimmers get is doing special operations support only while depolyed in the 5th fleet AOR.

  • @legryder Wow! Did they see any action in Operation Desert Storm? Do they train in all of four?

  • How hard is the training for the rescue swimmers?

  • @Shanemandelful 2-4 months depending on what branch... but very difficult and worth it

  • Small world! I knew about 3 of the faces! Nice video! GET SOME!

  • The big difference between a USN rescue swimmer and a USCG rescue swimmer is that it's much harder to get into the Coast Guard as a whole. I'm in a DOG unit and work on the water so I can't compare A-schools, but I'm sure they're both very skilled at what they do though.

  • Song name??

  • @codyufc1 Your guardian angel, by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

  • @nobbie650 yes, navy rescue swimmers are trained also with weapons and uscg rescue swimmers are not

  • is there a diff between us navy rescue swimmer and the uscg rescue swimmer?

  • @Nobbie650 well CG swimmers are actual rescuw swimmer and navy rescue swimmers do not do SAR as a primary job like the coast guard...in fact it is aroung 10th on the collateral duty jobs list

  • 2:16 - "I'm a Navy Rescue Swimmer and I'm here to pump you full o' holes!"

  • honestly if i found myself in distress on the seas i would be praying like heck that it was a Coast Guard swimmer coming to get me.

  • @stu6541 if you found yourself in distress on the seas you would be praying that ANYONE would come get your ass!

  • My son Kevin is a Navy Rescue swimmer.Thank you for posting this video. It chokes me up every time I watch it!

  • My dad was a US navy swimmer during the gulf war , he was one of only 2 on his ship . He still has his US navy issued fins and booties that you see them wear in this video

  • whats the difference between the coast guard rs and the navy rs

  • i heard this field is racist against black ppl....i hope that is not true bcuz i really want to do this... "So Others May Live" Hoo-Yah

  • @brandonmooretv No way dude, come on now...

  • @brandonmooretv are you being serious? that is the dumbest shit i have ever heard!

  • what is the name of this song?

  • Oh my God!

    I found the call

I want to be a rescue swimmer!

    (but I'm not a U.S. citizen because I'm Hungarian).

    Thank you Frankie43211

    :)

  • Last man class 92010 HooYah!

  • The dislike bar is like lady gaga's dick, small and should not be there.

  • yes women can be NAVY rescue swimmers.

    ask recruiter for more information

  • I can differentiate green and red, but I'm still classified as color deficient according to MEP's Medical Dept. Can I still enlist as a Rescue Swimmer?

  • @amadeus185 just don't take no for an answer!!! im fighting my own battle with the exact same problem. Color deficiency is a bitch...just dig deep and never give up!!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • @agus24ification

i forgot the name but its by the red jumpsuit aparatus

  • One of the sickest videos for the Navy rescue swimmers I hav ever seen......thanks

  • Okkay so the sogn doesnt go with the navy....the guardian is the coast guard! and their training is just as hard...if not harder!

  • @lolipopgirl12321

the coast guard is a joint group with the Navy. A branch of the Navy.

how could their trainning be harder if the Navy is the one teaching them.

  • @BBoyQuest1 Not true at all. Coast Guard does there own thing and has a longer Rescue swimmer school but the navys pipeline to get to the fleet for rescue swimmers is much longer.

  • @BBoyQuest1 .... the coast guard rescue swimmer program USED to be in conjunction with the Navy program. That is no longer the case. We (Coast Guard) have our own 18 week rescue swimmer school preceded by a 6 month apprentice program and followed with a 3 week EMT school.

  • @lolipopgirl12321 I am a huge fan of the coust guard, just saying, but the navy and CG rescue swimmers go through the same water program but the navy guys have to go through weapons training so its the same. CG rescue swimmers probably get more experience but navy does rescues sometimes overseas and sometimes at home.

  • god bless americe

  • I'd like to know what this song is also?? Anybody know?

  • @kgallette The song's "Your Guardian Angel" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus :)

  • what song is this???

  • Shred, I have heard of Jill Jones, although there are no records of her graduation. There is an effort underway to find and document the early women graduates. If you have any info please contact me so I can pass your info along or put you on touch. You may be the only one who can verify!

  • orenghigh: Yes women can be rescue swimmers in the Navy and Coast Guard. I was the first woman to graduate from the Navy's RSS in 1983 and there always a few in both services.

  • @cataderian dude nice! congratulations! you're an inspiration for sure.

  • @cataderian Unless you are Jill Jones, you are mistaken, She was the first, I graduated SAR school with her in 1979.

  • The basic job has changed very little over the years, but the training is a lot different than it was in my day (HC-1 SAR Swim School).

  • @B1900pilot my respect. I'm gonna be headed to basic in about 3 weeks, but i am going for rescue swimmer, i want it more than anything, that's why i've put everything i have into pt'ing and making myself capable of everything that is achievable. semper fortis

  • awesome ♥

  • @shutupandfight67 Hooyah!! Semper Fortis.

  • whats the difference between the navy sar and the US coast guard sar? id like to join one of them thanks..

  • @sc3n3cor3 generally the biggest difference is coast guard are sar full time mostly and navy are sar when situation calls for it. I would say coast guard sar say up in the berring straight or alaska? phew that some cold ass water lol. Years ago when I went through my rss class had a coast guard swimmer in it. Pretty certain we were both trained in pensacola. One of my instructors was also coast guard. I think since this has changed i'm not sure.

  • HOOYAH! I cant wait to do this. I finally finished MEPS last week after losing 30 pounds. My contract is currently signed as a regular AW. I dont ship out untill June 2011 so i have almost a year to pass the PST for rescue swimmer.

  • @deshirider07 Have you already taken the PST?

  • @XwSeifer No not yet. I have untill June so im going to wait a little bit to get more in shape. I know i can pass everything except the pull up test. I can do the minimum, but i dont want to pass with just the minimum. My goal is to do 10 or more. So once i can do that (im currently at 5 weighing at 190lbs) ill be taking the PST which is done at the local community pool every Tuesday.

  • @deshirider07 Hey man, it's never too early to get into shape. The better shape you're in, the easier things are going to be.

  • @deshirider07 cool shit i graduate thursday n my cuz also ships out june 2011

  • @ridgestop1212 Thats awesome, where is he shipping out from? Im in SoCal.

  • Great Video...

  • @pmoschet It must suck to not be a rescue swimmer, pmoschet. Where are you stationed?

  • Comment removed

  • @pmoschet You're at a training command for future swimmers. suck it up and quit being jealous. the day you can keep up with us is the day you can be one of us.

  • Comment removed

  • @pmoschet I spent couple years as door gunner on H60 for spec group 4 and worked many hours with alot guys who done the same. Yeah i agree buds is tougher pretty much for only reason it is longer and more to learn because of weapons and explosives. That being said from my experience and which is more than most I have never seen or heard a seal, rescue swimmer or hell even a fleet diver put down folks to try to impress people. I've meet all types seals but every1ofem had humble secure personality

  • Comment removed

  • @pmoschet Glad guys like you never make it through the AW pipeline. They weed your kind out pretty quick usually. You might be able to get through the physical part, but the instructors through the pipeline fuck with your type the whole time until you drop or go to mass and go to a boat. I know at least a half dozen of RSS graduates now chipping paint. How woulld pmoschet look with a pneumatic paint chipper in his hand? I think he'd sport the shit out of it.

  • Comment removed

  • @pmoschet I'm not even going to waste my time with punks like you that give the Navy a bad name. Just look at what you post on your profile. 'Nuff said.

  • @pmoschet If your in navy show some respect humility and square your attitude the fuck away! If you did go through buds you old misery dropped on your fucking head! You will know wtf that is if your for real. You gotta show respect before receiving it. If you are in the best shape on the base there forrest what good is it if ur dumb as shit. I would have been more impressed if you was a cook that got out early with asthma but gave your best. Mans heart and character is not measured in secs.

  • GMM3 Lingenfelter reporting. Class 89060.

    The best of the best.

    I was a seamonster!

  • somebody probaly already answered this question but whats this song called and whose it by?

  • what song is this? We just sang this for an Air Force going away party and Ive no clue who sings it but I love it! Good luck at Basic Brianne!

  • I need some help/advice. I desperately want to be a rescue swimmer in the Navy. I havn't talked to a recruiter yet but I do have a meeting schedueled in a couple days. I just want to know how I can go about becoming a rescue swimmer. I would really appreciate the advice. Please comment somebody, anybody

  • @FireRescue096 first things first you gotta get through all the Red Tape i.e paper work, after thta you have to go to MEPS and take your physical and pass it, after that you will be asked to pick yuor job, SpecWar is almost always available so after you would pick your job you would have to pass that job specific physical if it's something like Seals SWCC or AIRR, for examples.

  • @ReverantFaun So I tell my recruiter that I want to be a Rescue Swimmer and he will hook me up with the paper work, then I go to MEPS where I have a physical done or whatnot and then I will be listed as a Rescue Swimmer? What if they deney me and say I can't be one. It would devestate me. I have my heart set on it

  • @FireRescue096 Don't quote me but after you og to MEPS you would need to pass the PST and get a decent enough score. I know I origionally wanted to be a Navy Diver and I talked to a guy at the Jacksonville MEPS station who told me they will take your score and put it in a pool of other candidates then they will take the top 10 from the pool eveyr month and put them into the program. like I said don't quote me but that is what I've been told.

  • @ReverantFaun That means your chances of actually being a Rescue Swimmer is slim to none lol

  • @ReverantFaun It's been long time ago when I went through so it is most likely different now. I signed up and got my A school first. ATAN after A school in millington which is no longer there. During avionics school I went to a career counsler and vol to go to aircrew school in pensacola. Took offer of becoming a flight attendant with a DC 9 squardron yuck but hey its flying. I had to take a swim and pt test to qualify and just like basic pass fail period. During aircrew vol 4 RSS then AT3 HCS4.

  • @ReverantFaun I cant wait to go to MEPS....i have 30 pounds to lose for Navy weight and have to get my braces off so ill be in the DEP for a while when I can enlist...my recruiter wont let me enlist until I make weight that way I only have to go to MEPS one time....I want air rescue swimmer, but im so scared my ASVAB wont be high enough :(

  • @leslie12180420

You can do it, if you really want it, it will happen! what kind of score do you have to get?

  • Comment removed

  • sound off....i probably trained you guys 95-2002

  • i am about to go to the navy........ contacting a recruiter ..........if anybody can help get any more info on this navy air rescue swiimer .... i know enough to get around but any info much needed"so others may live"

  • can women be rescue swimmers?

  • @orenghigh lol yes they can

  • @orenghigh Yes, women can be rescue swimmers.

  • @orenghigh See the 13th video down on the navy video site: navy(com)/navy/about/gallery/videos.html (but replace (com) with ".com")

  • @orenghigh Yes.

  • @orenghigh Yes, see: youtube.com/watch?v=NqsIVOL51Fo

  • @orenghigh yes they can :) im training to be one now!

  • @orenghigh Of course, as long as she can do the same thing the guys can! The only things women can't do are front line. Spec war, but spec ops are open to anyone who can make it though it

  • @orenghigh yes men and women

  • @orenghigh When I was in rescue swimmer school in '96 I think 5 women tried but failed to finish. I was only surface rescue though, so I don't know what the requirements are for the airman rescue swimmer. The last girl to try was in the class before me. She passed everything but didn't want to do the open water swim in the St Thomas River in Jacksonville, FL. She was afraid of gators. Too bad she was at the top of her class.

  • @orenghigh yes they can babay!! - girl rescue swimmer

  • @orenghigh yes they can

  • @orenghigh yes but held to the same standards as men....

  • @orenghigh yes they can, I know a few...women can even be EODs.

  • .. wth "SO others may live" ------------ was stolen from USAF Special Operations PJs which their motto is "These Things We Do... That Others May Live"

  • @bronco590

Navy rescue swimmers were around long before PJs. As long as we have people like these doing our nation's work, does it really matter what the motto is?

  • @APV369 i agree we are all on the same team guys

  • I got two questions. 1. Do these guys do combat as well with swimming and saving lives? 2. Has there ever been a shark attack on the Search and Rescue guys and do you ever worry about sharks or anything else under you in the water? Thanks.

  • Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) work with special forces around the world in (obviously) combat situations. Your helo is equipped with weapons like a .50 cal machine gun. And as far as sharks, they are generally not vicious animals unless provoked or during a feeding frenzy. We know not to jump into something like that, but when you're sent to save a life, you don't think about what may lie beneath those waves. All that matters is that life that you are there to save.

    So Others May Live

  • i can do the fallowing:

    500 meter swim-breaststroke-11minutes:31 seconds

46 push ups-military style- less than 2 minutes

58 sit up- less than 2 minutes

    6-7 pull-ups---- no timing

    1 1/2 mile run 9minutes:33 seconds

today i sam 1000 meters(one thousand) breast stroke in 23minutes:24 seconds

now what do i need on my contract this june? doing the delay entry program.

  • Change your stroke. Use American Crawl (Free-style). You won't use breast any time other than for your second class swim qual and in NACCS. Try to get your sit ups a bit higher. Low 80s and up is good for starts. Also, get comfortable doing push ups, regular width, wide arm and tricep. Emphasis on perfection for everything. Talk to your mentor while you're in DEP. He should be able to help you out with anything else, and have motivation. Be able to push yourself, don't rely on others

  • Is there a big emphesis on mathematical intelligence to being a rescue swimmer?

  • what are the vision requirements?

  • @21ROYIK21 i was talking to a recruiter, and he said it has to be "correctable to 20/20" i askedhim if contact lenses were okay, and he said as long as i can see 20/20

  • I am surely thinking of going into this rate but the thing I am worrying the most about is if I fail or get cut from the pipeline, do you go straight to MP, keep going to that school 'till you pass, or do you go to another A school for another rate? Info would be greatly appreciated!

  • Do rescue swimmers get deployed on carriers more, less or the same as everyone?

  • depends on what helo platform u choose, either foxtrot romeo bravos or sierras

  • do they ever go in combat?

  • @GBNj25GB Probably not, we have Pararescue Jumpers (PJ's from the Air Force) for that.

  • @FrankComedy1 what are the two test? Thanks for the info. When do you head out for boot camp? I really don't swim with fins should I get a pair to get use to the difference if so what kind? How much swimming should I do a week?

  • I just enlisted in the navy with the rating of AWO (rescue swimmer). To answer your question cooljty, the training is extremely difficult from what I've heard. I was speaking to a rescue swimmer the other day and he said it was the most challenging yet most rewarding thing he's done in his entire life. There are two preliminary physical agility tests that you MUST pass prior to signing your contract for this rating.

God bless all the former and current swimmers out there.

    HOORAH!

  • talk to ur recruiter immediately, AWO's are not rescue swimmers they are p-3 dry guys who ever told u that awo's are is an idiot, you want to be aircrew wet, that's either aws, or awr

  • Very interested in becoming a AIRR. How do I prepare for the training? Do they go through the same basic training as normal recruits?

  • @CoolJty very, very difficult. I just enlisted for this rating. They go through basic, and then an additional year and a half of training. aircrewman candidate training school, rescue swimmer school, SERE training, and then squadron training. I suggest joining the "crossfit" program at your local gym. It'll whip you into shape. And be capable of swimming a 500 in under 11 minutes and a 1 1/2 mile run in under 10.

  • im leaving for it in 2 weeks but yeah.. heres how it went for me.. i went and signed my contract for airr, and then you have to take a monthly pst where you swim 500 yards pushups, situps, pullups, and then run a mile 1/2. and then youll go to bootcamp in great lakes illinois, then you will go to pensacola florida for your airr job training which last anywhere from 6 to 9 months and then youll get stationed somewhere.

  • coast guard or navy?? cant decide

  • im in the same situation. my bother is in the cg, and it seems really hard to be a rescue swimmer, so i think i may go navy

  • go cg if u wanna be a rescue swimmer trust me been in over 3 yrs as one and cg has alot more fun

  • @Smokey1401 but dont u have to wait on a list in the cg? because my brother went to the cg to be a rescue swimmer, bit now he thinks he will never be one. the navy doesnt have a list

  • navy for sure.. coast guard isnt bad but its considered part of homeland security and doesnt get all the benefits, etc as navy does. plus if you like to travel go navy because coast guard stays in the states

  • been in for five years as an AO...going to cross rate to AW soon..aviation is the way to go

  • i wanna do this so bad i leave in two weeks

  • Good luck, just look at it one day at a time and push through. Don't let anyone talk you out of what you want to do, tell you you can't do it or tell you how bad your life will be. I wouldn't be happy doing anything else.

  • "So Others May Live" Ooyah! Shipping out next month!

  • i feel sorry for you, have fun going through the training pipeline, truly have fun haha

  • Actually after talking with my recruiter I've decided to go Corpsman. FMF, FMTB. Oohrah!

  • Oh and one last think,

I may come off as an asshole, but I orginally wanted to go to BUD/s. I was told to go RSS because this "duty" would have got me into shape. My chain of command didn't support me because we were under-manned. I had to either get out and get an education, or reenlist to make myself eligiable to put in a package. Had someone told me about all the shit jobs and waste of time not even given the opportunity for BUD/s, I wouldn't have joined.

    Knowing is key.

  • Comment removed

  • Staff Sergeant,

if your defining "duty" as one who cleans toilets, chock and chains aircrafts, cleans grease, washes aircrafts, and checks oil levels on an a particular model then yes you are "honorable".

You need to understand that the majority of people (including everyone that I met) dispised those jobs (or duties and you call them) and that I would help out anyone that I could join the military as long as they understand that full burden of what they are getting themselves into.

  • no you get fucked and sent out to the fleet.

  • no. you receive a "duty" and a responsibility to live up to the expectations that others depend upon you to.

    SSgt Butch D.

  • So what happens to those that don't make it through RSS...Do they just stay as Aircrewmen or what?

  • I'll let Instructor Rogers and Roberts know how easy you think it is. JK.

I'm a San Diego SRSS instructor, I went to Rescue Swimmer Instructor School with those two.

Some people have a really hard time with SAR School. A lot of people are simply not aquatically adaptable, or just have a harder time with it. Mask fins and snorkel followed by SP&C (mostly underwater swims) makes the most students spell Doritos.

What week are you in? I was in P-cola for Dec 7-9 and watched a class SP&C

  • who is this? is this BM2 Drew???

  • Did your class give the chum bucket to the proctor? I think I know who this is...Perkins.

  • i am a lifeguard , 17, thinking about USCG . i could use any kind of insight on how to be recruited , anything would help , thanks

  • Just go and see a recruiter, dude. Get yourself in shape first though, you are going to get your butt kicked no matter how fit you think you are.

    Good luck.

  • You must be in JAX. They are a bit gun-shy because of Merecki.

  • Do prospective rescue swimmers train seperately from other recruits in Basic?

  • Well, they don't train separately but they do have more specialized training called build up. All the SAR/ SWCC/ SEAL/ EOD candidates will attend build up.

  • How many woman are in this field? My daughter wrote me a letter from bootcamp that she was training for the test. She is only 105 pounds but was a gymnast and strong beyond belief for her size. I hope she makes it.. I'm curious if they approached her on it because she knew nothing about it when she left. She did about double all the pushups and situps required for her bootcamp test.

  • Right now I think we only have two females training to be rescue swimmers. It's not easy work. She needs to be extremely comfortable in the water and ready to push herself further than she thought she could. She may have had an interest in it before leaving for bootcamp, but a lot of recruiters won't push special programs like SAR unless it's brought up, especially with females. Just tell your daughter to push herself as hard as she can and never give up.

  • You'l first go to p-cola and youl be thear for about a year or more going through aircrew, swimmer school than AW school than depending on your grades youl pick which platform you want HS, HSL, OR HSM. Then once you pick youl go to VA, JAXS FL, OR SAN DIEGO CA for anouther year and then SEAR school and then finally to your first squad if you pass all of that.

  • Thanks, for the info.

  • I joined in April as an AW. i leave for basic Feb 8th 2010. i wana be a rescue swimmer.

Does annybody know if training is in P-cola or Nas Jax. I've heard both?
