  • i'd rather not discover new species cause 1 day if we dont get along with them we will have our first war in space... our poor future childrens will suffer..

  • Lol ,for life,

You dont need the sun, you ddnt need the right temp or w/e...

Before, they said that the ingredients of life is energy from sun and water etc..

Now they're discovering life in places they didnt expect to have life, like those volcanoes in the ocean, acidic hot springs etc...

They need to think OUT OF THE BOX..

The only reason they think we need water or sun is because,

That is what "WE" need in Earth,

But they don't know what It's like outside of earth..

  • "Are we alone?" that should have never been a question. its obvious. just look at the night sky -_-

  • It is only logical that there are numerous planets supporting some sort of life and lots of civilizations out there.

If the Creator within the Infinite Universe(s) with Billions of of star systems and galaxies and countless planets in it has, only had this tiny globe we Call Earth, have life on it ,that sure seems like the Biggest waste of space someone can conceive !

  • Excellent video, when they said water and methane as atmosphere the first thing that came up in my mind was the grunts from Hali because their world is a water world with a methane atmosphere LOL!

  • In a practical sense, I think we may well be alone and remain that way.

Yes, there may be other worlds with life, we may even verify that life is out there or was there, but that may be all we can accomplish.

The evidence we find may only be of past life or simply microscopic life or life so far away they we can never examine it up close.

Space is big and incredibly dangerous. Maybe too big for our little group of struggling lifeforms to deal with. Ever.

But we should never stop trying.

  • "so are we alone?!?" "The planet is too hot so yes"

A bit more science please! and not just oh there might be life out there!!

  • lol

it's already obvious that life does not require our exact specifications

  • so what? big deal!!!! lol

  • kaese

  • So the organic molecules are methane? I was waiting to here what molecules they found but only methane was mentioned. This is no big deal, since we all ready know of methane in our own solar system. In fact, Titan has a lake of methane.

  • ..correction..."waiting to hear..."

  • lol titan would be a great place to get hammered considering methane is a form of alcohol..... it just has a tendency to kill you in about 1 hour

  • I think you're thinking of methanol ... and methanol isn't drinkable anyway, it just makes you go blind.

  • you my friend are right that was a rather stupid mistake of me to make... i've read about a few cases in my chemistry class at college where people have died from drinking methanol... must of been a shit party

  • It is not that we fond methane alone. Is the fact that we were able to find it in the atmosphery of a planet 12 light years from us. Its all about learning how rare organic molecules really are. How planets are formed and How life came into existance

  • omg what an a-hole

  • That's really really sane.

  • excellent work!

  • The truth of the matter ladies & gentlemen is that they're only looking 4 another planet like ours- Because ours is running out of things like petroleum, gold, etc...if they come across a planet that's similar 2 earth Wooot Nasa & Government will be so happy--- then we colonize & rape that planet 4 its nutrients...lol....

  • i think theres some statistic that worked out, that out of all the billions of galaxies theres got to be a chance that there is at least 7 other earth-like planets our there.

  • there could easily be over 1,000,000 earth type planets in our galaxy according to the math.

  • Why does this man automatically assume that there can't be any life on this planet? That's the biggest mistake scientists and astrologists make when thinking of alien life. Who says that they'll need the same circumstances for life on their planet, as we do on Earth. In this particular instance.. the aliens could look at Earth and feel that no life can exist here, because to them it's too cold. Take a lesson from Uncle Ben's, "Think outside the box."

  • i completly agree

  • I think it's because scentists are really desperate on finding alien life that they decided to take a short cut through box. In other words they're going to look for planets like us rather than looking for planets not like us. Why ?because it's very difficult to observe planets that we can hardly ever see with our naked eye.

  • They're not interested in alien life, They're interested in planets which could sustain life so we could leave earth before we all suffocate ourselfves in Carbon Dioxide.

  • Very true, for all we know the life on said planet could use completely chemical reactions to keep itself alive.

  • @StringsCrusader he isn't assuming it, he says there can't be because it's too hot.

  • @titaniumweasel he said that there's significant quantities of water...

  • @StringsCrusader In the atmosphere. It's so hot the water just stays evaporated in the atmosphere.

  • @titaniumweasel you still miss my point. he says there can't be any life on the planet because it's too hot... yet he's looking at our definition of what life needs on EARTH to survive and be sustained. Who's to say that on this planet, an abundant source of methane, and scorching temperatures are just as important as water is to life on Earth. Also, water in the atmosphere is still water... evaporated or not.

  • @StringsCrusader The only reason life exists on earth is because of those definitions. We are at pretty much the only place in our solar system where complex life could develop. Any closer, the water boils away, any farther, it all freezes. Yes, water vapor in the atmosphere may still be water, but water vapor is only useful if it eventually comes back down as rain, and that isn't happening there. Also, water isn't an indicator of life. One of jupiters moons has water, so does mars and the moon.

  • @titaniumweasel you're still missing my point. i'm very aware at how life on Earth needs water, and rather moderate temperatures to survive. But who's to say that extraterrestrials will need the same circumstances? We are carbon based lifeforms... but aliens could easily be silicon based. They'd require different basic needs on their planet for life to survive... What I've been trying to tell you, is that people need to open their eyes to new possibilities, think outside the box man...

  • @StringsCrusader well, how do we know silicon based lifeforms even exist? What you aren't seeing is that we don't know enough about life outside of our world. There is no universal benchmark for which environments can harbor living beings and which ones can't. It isn't about being closed minded, it's just that we don't know enough. It's perfectly reasonable for Mr. Scienceguy to use earth's conditions as a benchmark. He may be wrong, but no one can say that he is for certain.

  • @titaniumweasel ... thanks for basically just repeating back what i just said. i realize that we have no other form of life to use as an example. hence why i said "THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX", because honestly, out of all the planets out there I highly doubt that they'd be similar to us.

  • @StringsCrusader i'm just trying to say that what he said wasn't an assumption, he just based his statement on what we know about life.

  • @titaniumweasel which is a very narrow minded view to take... that's the whole point i've been repeating over and over again :P. i guess we just misunderstood each others points lol.

  • @StringsCrusader

That is true, but you have to start somewhere.. So why dont start by looking at Planet's that have the same conditions as our Earth?

  • @Nickah37 Yeah I know. I'm just saying they should take it into consideration. :P

  • @StringsCrusader

Yep. But i think that they do that :p

  • @StringsCrusader -> For me, after reading about how life forms on our planet, the basic building block we require is water. If a planet is too hot then it becomes impossible to create any form of life as we know it. Therefore trying to look for a possible "alternative" life form that may use another element as it's building block can end up being a huge waste of time when we could use that time searching for more likely candidates... this is why I think these scientists don't even bother.

  • @jmic0923 I know this argument already. It makes sense from the logistics side of everything, but I still think it's incredibly narrow minded. :P sorry another viewer argued the same point with me lol. i get what you're saying.

  • @jmic0923 water is essential for carbon based life to flourish, check this article out by copy and pasting these words in google.

NASA-Funded Research Discovers Life Built With Toxic Chemical

  • Hey

    it would be cool

if we could find life on this planet 1st

I,ve personally searched all over the world

    the result is very disappointing

  • One fly in the ointment of the the Goldie Locks theory is Venus. About the right distance from the sun almost Earth's twin in size and composition. But it's a hell planet of runaway greenhouse effect 700f +.

What if we find an Earth size planet in the right place but it turns out to be a Venus or for some reason sterile and barren.

  • it's proven that there's a 90 % chance of extraterrestial life.

  • @MrSmileyHasABigDong more like 100% chance

  • 1 No where not alano whe where never alone

4 The teliscoop on southpool is wachting planet x

  • 1. learn to spell

    2. Planet X nibiru is fake

    3. "Setie?" what the fuck?

    4. Give me some proof

  • Isn't this molecule based of sugar? if so it's entirely possible the universe is a giant diner and some sort of omnipotent short order cook spilled ingredients while making flapjacks.

  • Why do the other planets have to have the same components as earth? Just because the stuff on earth is essential for us doesn't mean everything else in the universe must require the same to live.

  • Yeah i agree. Our species have adapted so many times

  • Well while other conditions could arrise, I think the main point is they look for simular things, because we know they have at least one time produced life.

  • Yeah, I understand your point. They are better off looking for planets with the same components as earth, for now at least.

  • All we can say is that under our conditions, life is possible. We have nothing to rule out life under different conditions.

  • i agree ,the bacteria and worms they found where living in very toxic emissions, and the temp was what 700f+ degrees..i know they said it was hot enough to melt lead.

  • It boggles my mind that a few years ago they were saying that life could exist without having to be the exact same combo we have on Earth.

Now were going back to: exact same temperature, atmosphere, water & distance from the sun? What about the volcanic thermal vent bacterias & worms in the sea that live under "alien like" conditions.

We tought it couldnt support life, heavy pressure, high temperature, poisonus gas emissions.

I can see life being non-carbon based,no water or breathing needed etc.

  • Of course.

Who knows, there could be other life in the solar system we live in.

  • they found out there used to be life on mars. Theres Methane is Mars' atmosphere too
