  • Are those original vintage cars, or are they reproductions?

  • @SeberHusky Those are true, vintage cars that are still used today. They are in Beautyful condition. Thanks for watching...

  • A good rail system is a political decision. I live in Finland, 1,000 km from north to south, 500 km from east to west, but most freight travels by road, and much of this has to do with the modern 'Just in Time' delivery logic. I'd vote for rail development every time!

  • Yeah, long train long country_X_

  • Amtrak don't have shit on this train. Keep it simple as well as vintage. Nice video. Keep E'm coming

  • WOH :OO

  • Holy horses ass! That's the longest passenger train I've ever seen!

  • Canada is so damn beautiful, and the trains there are awesome! I'm just a 15 year old American girl dying to go to Canada one day...

  • we sure do!

  • the dome cars are where the BAR is!

  • Good old Canada.

  • I like trains

  • whoa...that is one LOOOOOOOONG train!

  • thanks man i'm from canada

  • @Legofan1401 Beautiful part of the country! And you have Timmy's and good beer up there also. LOL..

  • @1jackdk no good beer. They are expensive compared to Yankee's

  • Via Rail is Canada's version of passenger Am-track service but both USA and Canada need to replace these ancient slow train lines with bullet trains.

  • Amtrak vs Via Rail

    Via uses real dome cars.

    Via : 1

    Amtrak : 0

  • one of the best train experiences in the world

  • talk about haulin!

  • A train meant to transport the entire Canadian population to safe place in 2012, This is just a trail run!

  • @SugarCoatedPills Are you serious.

  • @Hightrain12 - Kidding mate, Nobody's serious in You Tube!

  • BTW, that train is almost as long as a GO Train. :p

  • Is this a filled to capacity once a month train trip? What is the departure and destination? I rode the CN trip from Windsor, ONT via Toronto, ONT, to Vancouver, BC 20+ years ago and it wasn't that long. I don't even think American cross-country trains back in the height of train travel were that long.

  • @keenedge100 This is the everyday train. VIA #1 and #2 run all the way across Canada. Fall is particularly busy with the color, and the train usually fills up, so it is longer than normal during this season. The ride through the Rockies is spectacular I hear. Thanks for watching.

  • Is that the "Canadien"? And damn, I didn't know there were even platforms long enough for a train like that lol

  • Wonderful video

  • Did they run out of hoppers and fill those passenger cars with coal?

  • beautiful

  • 28 cars?

  • You are correct... THAT is how a passenger train is SUPPOSED to look, brimmed to capacity non-the-less.

  • DAAAMN! Never seen VIA with a train that long before! WOW!

  • holy shit O_O the train would fall over if i made this on a Hornby or something xD

  • damn that is one smooth train. you look at an american track and you'd think the train had ovular whels it would be rocking so hard

  • Can you open the windows on those cars? Older InterCity and regional stock here in Germany along with most everything in the former Eastern Bloc have windows that you can open halfway downwards, providing the convenient opportunity to look beyond the glass.

  • @JT42CWRM No. The cars are all A/C and the windows ate sealed in place. Thanks for watching...

  • Havent seen Amtrak pull that many yet...nice vid!

  • I never knew those engines could pull so many cars. Do all Canadian train engineers drive that fast?

  • If only Amtrak would run like that.

  • this video is worth alot now that VIA has rebuilt these units

  • cool, i didn't know people in other countries had long passenger trains..

  • I see via rail all the time and thats far far far longer than usual they were probably just transporting them

  • What type of engines were those? Anyone here know?

  • @starguard 3 F40PHs

  • @GordonFreemanD40 Thanks

  • and the muslams know how to blow up a train

  • Why doesn't amtrak have domes? The superliners have sightseer lounges which are good enough but what about the single level routes?

  • only in CANADA :))))

  • What sort of speeds are these trains timed at? 75 or a 100mph? I'm an ex-BR Guard, so used to 125mph for express timings, & 75 to 100 for local/commuter workings.

I want to across Canada, from Halifax to Vancouver, on The Canadian from Toronto.

I want to do the Indian Pacific trip as well:

    Sydney - Adelaide - Perth

Duration: 3 nights in either direction

    Distance: 4352 kilometres

    railaustralia. com.au/images/trains/indianPacificRoute.jpg

  • In Canada, We go BIG or go home. And yes it is the best place on Earth.

  • I love Canada and Canadians. Too damned cold for me though and I can't swim at the beach.

  • Can't wait to move back to Canada, my favorite country.

  • lol same as australia

  • Good length

  • three f40ph=2 genesis', so why does amtrak need two genesis' (six f40ph's) for trains like the empire builder or southwest chief, especially on trains one third the length?

  • @jfsa380 I'm guessing the super-liner cars are heavier. The number of locomotives also depends on what kind of grades the train will have to negotiate. If a 30 car train on mostly level track will probably need the same amount of locomotives as a10 or 15 car train operating on heavy grades....of course that is just an example, I'm sure there is some math behind it...

  • If only amtrak had dome cars.

  • its not hard to run a train , most people can do it .

  • wow! that was one long passenger train! how many people can they transport with a train that length?

  • "Alright this is your conducter speaking. We have just arrived at the station, you in the back will arrive in about 10 minutes"

  • Very impressive train; what would be the passenger capacity of a train like this?

  • that shit is unreal

  • This reminds me of the old New River Train trips back in the 80's and early 90's that ran between Huntington, WV and Hinton, WV. 30 to 34 cars. One major difference though. Steam powered. A few of the videos are on YouTube. Very cool though to see a matched consist. New River Train looked kind of like Amtrak first starting out.

  • I remember when I was 12 years old my parents took me on a train trip all the way from Toronto to Vancouver and back on a VIA train that looked very similar to this. Probably my fondest childhood memory. It took about four and a half days each way.

  • i dont get why america and canada all have single track railways,

  • @TrowbridgeHardcore First of all they aren't all single track, some are two, three, and even four. This route would have double track if it needed it but to save money it doesn't. 2nd, this line has plenty of long sidings and has a signal system which cuts the need for a exspensive 2nd track. Cajon Pass has double and even tripple track for most of its route. Also don't forget how exspensive it would be to maintain double tracks on a rail system that is already the largest in the world.

  • @TrowbridgeHardcore - Half as expensive to build as double-track, very important when you're covering VAST distances.

  • @JBofBrisbane but limited capacity, trains only run one direction at a time unless there using passing loops however this often means the train si stood waiting whilst the opther train clears the section in order to grant the waiting train the token etc it works but its not the best idea for high speed / frequent rail services

  • amtrak trains are beastly huge things

  • Comment removed

  • via is the best. once had to take an amtrak train (inbound from detroit) i got on in Sarnia, and they are nasty.

    VIA #1!

  • Great video, thanks!

  • very nice, That's the way you do it.

  • it would be annoying if you were in rush and that went paqst your car

  • how many cars was that hauling cuz i couldnt count after the 23 one ??

  • @GallardoFreak888 30 cars on it this day. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk That would make it just about half a mile long, surely?

  • how do you get on it?

  • They're prob not on time due to operating on freight rail right of way and the long distance they travel. By the way that is a pretty long train!

  • how do they load/unload it? only less than a third of it would fit in a station

  • @CiussDj in the larger cities they do it by sections like track 2 track 3 etc its amazing but takes awhile to get it all lined up and going but worth it

  • Yes, yes we do. =D

  • Good gosh...that is the longest passenger train I have ever seen.

  • is there really that much demand for passenger trains up in canada?

  • that summer consist allways amazed me I have been on that one a few times that long

  • this makes me want to go back and ride the Canadian before they change it again I had my chance last year but had to cancel the trip

  • take a look around. Canada is a good place to live in.

  • @isaacrocksyay I have been up there many times, and your right! I would have no problem living there, and I like it around the Parry Sound area, and Sudbury. Both tops on my list...

  • @1jackdk unless you have worked lined up do go to sudbury lol, actually stay away from ontario we get out asses taxed off

  • @1jackdk Parry Sound is my favorite town in the world, I love the huge bridge that goes over the waterfront <3

  • @1jackdk Back in the 80s I was heading up to my cottage at Parry Sound, I stopped at Barrie and a tornado went through. It was crazy, i was going to the bathroom in McDonalds when it happened haha

  • @1jackdk Hey i have a cottage near Parry sound, canada is in deed a great place to live.

  • @1jackdk Its very beautiful up here indeed, yes! The scenary is fantastic and very beautiful

  • @isaacrocksyay No it isn't it all filled up, no need for anyone to move here. There are enough idiot's screwing this Country up so piss off.

  • @isaacrocksyay yeah and Canada is way better to live in than the USA or Mexico. Best place in north America. Canada and the U.S. are so close that they both share the same landscapes in places. trees, lakes mountains, hills, the good thing , if you are in Canada and you get hurt you , they have free health care, in the states if you get sick, or have an operation you need to pay the bills to get you better,

  • @isaacrocksyay

I used to think Canada or the Pacific-Northwest (USA) was a great place to live as well, until I realized the cold, wet, weather is not so great for the elderly with tired old bones. Since I'll be that one day, I'm now looking much closer at warmer regions to eventually settle permanently.

  • THAT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!

The thing's got to be coming up on a mile long?!

  • You've got the right title for this video! Wife and I have been between Halifax and Vancouver at least four times! The service is excellent, and the rebuilt 1950s domes, sleepers and diners are superb!

  • hah, the Americans would put like 6 genesis' on that, and the canadians only use 3, smaller, less powerful F40PH's, why?

  • @jfsa380 Why? Horsepower per ton for any particular train is a decision made by the individuals in charge at a particular point in time. While I move freight and not passengers, I doubt seriously that on a regular basis Amtrak would use six units to pull a similar train. Having watched Amtrak run by our facility daily, I don't think I've ever seen more than 3 units on a train unless power is being re-distributed.

  • @charlieb640 thats a thirty odd car train, on amtrak, they run two engines on only yen car trains, when simple math says three engines/thirty odd cars, one engine per ten cars, they would only need one, but they have two.

  • @jfsa380 @jfsa380 Simple math may tell you that, but professional railroading does not. Often the policy is to use a minimum of two units. This provides a failsafe measure for ensuring that if you have a failure on one unit you have a backup.

This is not a USA practice only as there are railroads all over the world running this way. A lot depends on the importance of the train, the corridors it moves over, the availability of power, terrain, tonnage, repositioning, etc.

  • @charlieb640 so what you are saying is they don't necessarily need two or more, as one can single-handedly haul the train, but its better to have more?

  • @jfsa380 That is often the case on passenger and freight railroads throughout the world. There are many factors involved, and varying trains of thought. But in many cases practices call for sending out two units although on that particular day with that particular tonnage you could handle it with one if everything goes right.

I don't know passenger operations that well, but I do know freight. That decision is common throughout the world.

  • @charlieb640 thanks

  • @jfsa380 the need for 2 or 3 units is not for the horsepower but for the electricity to run all the air conditioning and other necessities in the passenger cars. The amount of power needed for that many cars would exceed the amount that 2 engines can produce on top of the electricity they need to run the traction motors.

  • @kibahige uuuuhhhh.....ok.

  • This has to be the biggest metal snake I've ever seen!

  • A very nice train. I love those old coaches. Thumbs up from Germany! :)

  • Oh shit.....where is my seat?

  • Golly, that has to be the longest passenger train I have ever seen in my life! Are most VIA trains that long? Is that a common site?

  • @GreatSongwriters The transcon trains are generally pretty big Ray. But in the fall, they seem to be much bigger. I guess lots of travelers seeing the Canadian Rockies in the fall/ Heard its spectular. Thanks for watching...

  • @GreatSongwriters yes they are especially in the summer

  • @GreatSongwriters yes they are especially in the summer and fall

  • @GreatSongwriters No, most Canadian passenger trains aren't nearly that long. Between 6 to 12 cars is normal for most of them, but it varies greatly across the country.

  • @GreatSongwriters

That's not even long for a passenger train. I've seen much longer.

  • 23 cars. LONG TRAIN !

  • The skylights look nice

  • We may know how to run a train, but we sure as hell don't know how to get it anywhere on time.

  • @Bus7777 Sounds like Amtrak here in the states! LOL

  • @1jackdk Yeah, but at least it's a beautiful train to be late in! Great food, service, and equipment.

  • @1jackdk Has Amtrak been 8 hours late?

  • @1jackdk, and the National Railroads here in Europe, guess being on time sucks everywhere

  • @1jackdk or national rail in the UK

  • @Bus7777 Damn straight lol. If your going railfanning, then you might as well wait oh say an hour after the station says shes supposed to be in. :D

  • @Bus7777 just like we hispanics, you tell us to be somewhere at 5 and we'll get there an hour or more later!

  • @Bus7777 nice one

  • @Bus7777 just like amtrak the question isnt getting there on time its how good is the cheesecake and scenery you pass through. i used to take a trip from minnesota to oregon once a year when i had relatives that lived there. the trip took like a week and it was along the bnsf tracks so we would end up going through the glacier park tunnel and. it was awesome.

  • @gtafan2006 VIA's "Canadian" is a good trip. But it's usually an hour late.

  • @Bus7777 the second time i took amtrak there was a huge delay well not a delay an obstruction to rail traffic really a freight train derailed so we had to take a bus to the next station to continue the trip.

  • @Bus7777 time is relative, slow people like you are going to move at different pace there for will see moments go by slower, me, i do way more than everyone, and faster, time is not a real object, it is a name we use to itentify moments in history, if you think the train was late, then you were the one that was late to get on, or there was an error or something that delayed the train,

  • @witchcraftlord...lol...the only thing you do more than everyone else is talk shit...try doing less but being better at what you do...anyone can do alot but only fools believe they are better because of it.

  • @gdogau i will talk shit to people that bothered me , you have no proof that i do it more than the next guy, you dont know me, i do way more than everyone and you cant fucking say i dont and you cant stop me, i play piano guitar drums i sing i do art work, i play piano at church, i make hundred of dollars every month, i fraud the goverment, i lie , i cheat , i steal, i love sticking a dildo in my ass, i love swmming, i skateboard, i snowboard i do more than anyone

  • @gdogau i did not say that i believe i am better because of doing more things and doing it faster,

and also were you given $40,000 when you were 17 and go on a 3 year shoping spree to buy anything i want hm hm no you didnt so shut the fuck up and leave me alone,

  • @Bus7777 time is relative,

  • DANGER WILL ROBINSON !

  • seriously why don't they buy more P42's and run them on this route you can run 2 of them and are able to pull more

  • I wasn't sure if you saw this one but I have to admit your pictures bring back fond memories. I was fortunate to have travelled on the Canadian several times. Experience I will never forget.

  • I love that train!

  • Yeah, Canada's cool like that.

  • two words

    holy

    shit

  • WOWOW!!!

  • Great location - its close to where the derailment was last week.

  • Dont tell me, the train was full of mexcian nationals right LOL

  • goes out to anyone who knows.: Are there any "newer" high speed passenger trains build in North America today? I just wonder because the trains looks fairly vintage in every video of N.A. trains i've seen.

  • Comment removed

  • @kunstsein Yes, the United States has the Acela Express (240km/h) and the HHP-8 (200km/h). They're both made by Bombardier, a Canadian company.

Canada's fastest locomotive in service is the GE Genesis P42DC (160km/h), which is an American locomotive.

  • Anaconda train!

  • WOW. Long train. One end in Vancouver and the other end in Montreal

  • @1jackdk That looks like Rankin Lake Road?

I looked into traveling from Toronto to Vancouver. It's freakin expensive! Around $2000!

  • @trybal007 Yeah but what a ride....Worth the 2k to me? But maybe because I have the money for such things LOL?

  • @copperheadmarine Agreed. Although i think the prairies would get a little boring. lol

  • @trybal007 2k is not bad the more I think about it? A anverage room here at Myrtle Beach South Caroloina is $1500 /$2000? I would rather spend the money on the train than a room at the beach! I live an hour inland and wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with a plate full of the beach!

  • Dam! I wonder how long it lakes to load haha

  • Damn, that's the longest passenger train I've ever seen...

  • Wow!The veiw you got was awesome!!!!!

  • No shit we know! LOVE VIA Rail!

  • Took the Canadian from Edmonton to Jasper in 2005, did an overnight stay there, then hopped aboard The Skeena to Prince George. From there it was plane time to Van and the same back to toronto.

I want to take The Canadian from T.O. to Vancouver next year, like in summer when the days are long.

  • Thats amazing, Is this the length of regular trains in Canada?

  • Great Video ty

  • See!! We don't live in igloos in Canada and we don't have seals as pets damn Americans!! We at least some Americans anyway

  • wow! wish amtrak would run trains like this!! & the good old F40s leading! thumbs up & favorite!

  • @NS2589 Amtrak used ot run trains like this. The CZ was such a train. It was trains #5-25-35 The Desert Wind, Pioneer and CZ. It sometimes had to make 3 stops at stations because it wouldn't fit. Because of lack of funding and the North East Corridor taking billions in investment dollars. They allowed the national system cut backs, and the cars on the trains to be pulled out of service (bad ordered)

  • @intercityrailpal wow didnt know that. thanks!!

  • @NS2589 Gee, Sorry to have forgotten to tell you. Amtrak's longest train today is the Autotrain to Florida. Thanks for commenting!
