While it may be acceptable to some to interchange the terms, a jack is a small flag on the stern of a boat or ship, so I will continue to call this the Flag of the Union or the Union Flag unless it is on the stern of a ship (or is that the back end of the boat?)

This one time I went to Scotland. It rained non-stop and was freezing cold. Everyone is overweight and has false teeth. All the men are transvestites and the women look like men. @SmokinAce1013 Wales is now a country but it used to be a principality and part of England, and the flag wasn't made until 1959, long after the Union Jack was made. I see no point in adding a dragon to the flag because it would just spoil it. The red cross on the flag represents England AND Wales, and always will. End of story.

@Chiquicheeta To put it out, a Jack is a term for flags that are used for Ships transporting Goods, or maybe a vacation ship. A flag is a flag, or some item that identified a person, place, or thing. (There wasn't millions of fabric flags before the Roman Empire and the Medieval Times.)

Wales was not seen as a kingdom in its own right when the flag was constructed and was annexed with England. Therefore it does not appear on the Union flag. It was deemed not necessary at the time. If Scotland were to leave the Union, the black background of St Davids flag (wales) could be added to replace the blue saltire.

@eddieoxford Partly wrong. The Netherlands has 12 provinces (Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Flevoland, Utrecht, Gelderland, Noord-Brabant, Limburg, Zeeland, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland).
Holland used to be one region a long time ago, but is nowadays divided into 2 provinces. Most of its inhabitants refer to the country as Nederland, but sometimes also use Holland, especially when alliteration is involved ("Ik hou van Holland", "Hup, Holland, hup!"), when it sounds better.

This one time I went to Scotland. It rained non-stop and was freezing cold. Everyone is overweight and has false teeth. All the men are transvestites and the women look like men. I was attacked by a swarm of midges and thrown out of a pub for saying that the Loch Ness monster didn't exist. Everyone is constantly drunk and there is a very high level of MS due to the horrible weather. I couldn't sleep at night due to the constant bagpipe noise. I am never going back.
