  • Great Public Speaker

  • Awesome. Only in America do people believe so dearly in Che Guevara, and socialism that they will fight so hard for the government to run everything, but then go out and deface what the government has erected, in the name of "plagiarized art", leaving the government to spend more money to clean up or remove the posters and stickers. This is why outside of academia most "liberal elite" can not really produce. The problem with socialism, is that eventually other peoples money runs out.

  • Seriously people, go out and do this. He didn't sit on youtube bitching about what other people were doing, he was the one doing.

You may make your own stencils but do they make people stop, and contemplate, do they make people really think? or do they just look like you outlined a picture?

  • OBEY IS GOD

  • i have and had some of these stickers

  • Relentless self-promotion in the guise of ultra-lightweight political

    propaganda.

  • Well with his work is just your interpretation of it and what he wants you to get out of it: and i think the best way to sum it up is what he says at 2:50

  • His work confuses me. Setting to the side the plagiarism issues, I would never use Obama's image as a great thing and then have other work patronizing Big Brother. But then again, using Obama's image along with Communistic and Socialist propaganda does make sense. ?

  • Last April, Fairey mobilized his legal team to send Baxter Orr a cease and desist order threatening legal action against him for a parody of Fairey's Andre the Giant design, adorning it with a SARS mask and the title "Protect Yourself." Read Shepard Fairey: OBEY my lawyers by Dan Wasserman February 6, 2009

  • fuck this guy. Your not convincing anyone dickhead your just a popular biter.

  • Fuck you guys!!! stop critizising someone whos doing something you cant do!

  • haha vector popilar leftist images? With training and experience anyone can do this especially with all the help he has.

And personally yes I can do this I can make my own stencils.

  • then go out. and do it! and stop taking out the time to hate!

  • "And what I realised is, I have copied that horrid Che Guevara shirt and combined it with that stamp I copied, hence the confusion, But I'm MUCH TOO BRILLIANT TO REMEMBER THAT" AHAHAHA

  • His art evokes thought and feeling and has progressed art in an amazing way. For anyone to insult him is ridiculous and is probably because they can't cut it in any real art community.

  • Most of the people that have posted on this video are complete morons. The first thing we have to do is look at the very definition of art. In its most simple form Art is something created to evoke feelings or hopefully a specific feeling. Shepard has drawn inspiration from a lot of different sources, as should all "artists." He was persistent in his form and excelled.

  • cmon all he did was street art.. It blew up and he took advantage of it. People make him sound like some evil art Nazi. He's just a skater who was making black market punk rock t-shirts and stickers. People liked them and he got fame. Anybody who thinks he's such a plagiarist should take a long look at the art world and realize it doesn't have a lot to do with art. It's about image. and presentation.

  • He is not an artist!well... just a CON-ARTIST!. I challenge him any day! give him a blank wall and a paint brush or a blank paper and an pencil and I bet my life he wont know what to do! he is not an artist! he just got famous for being a clown. And he has an apparel line( jackets, jeans etc, etc)? does he even cut the fabric and design the pieces himself? or sew the concept design? NO! he is not an artist or a designer! he is ruining true ART!

  • he is a plagiarist. the images are great confections based on other people's work. unfortunately he steals them and never gives credit; then he has the unmitigated gall to be proud of the ignorance he spreads to a generation too young to know he steals and lies. the direct stealing and recycling of other artists work is pervasive. he never gives credit and has been sued several times. He should use their work as style inspiration or at least give credit.

  • this guy is such a sellout. He profits off of war, sells clothes at nordstrom's, he's a tracer, not ART!!!! Sheep follow him.

  • Shepard Fairey spreads sarcastic images as a debate against war. If you can say he profits off of war, you realize that would also apply to John Lennon..

  • i dont think he changed the other guys memory of che guevara...

the other guys just a dumbass...

  • his intentions are good. but hes still a plagiarist.

  • how?

  • you suck

  • how come he is so open about it , dont the police just look at this , or his books and arrest him.. i dont undertand that.

  • They need physical evidence of him wheatpasting. So if they dont actually catch him doing it the cops dont have jack shit on him

  • A++

  • interesting, enlightening

  • By adopting the branding and marketing techniques used by large corporations and wrapping them in an "authentic", street/graffiti art style, Shepard has strategically infected the mainstream art world. STEPS TO SUCCESS: 1) "Reinterpret" popular propaganda posters/images. 2) Add personal brand. 3) Post them everywhere. 4) Repeat steps 1-3 until you're famous! Disregard every poster and image he's ripped off, forget the fact he's doing all this for the money, then sure, he's worth defending. ;)

  • But when Warhol did it was brilliant, huh

  • Warhol altered images and placed them in a an ironic context which made us look at the art differently. Warhol elevated graphc art and taught people to open their eyes to art in their daily lives. Warhol never pretended to create the original art pieces. Fairey stays silent which is tantamount to silently lying.

  • Exactly. Why is that so hard for people to understand? Or perhaps they refuse to accept the truth. Either way, the jokes on the art community.

  • Warhol sucked ass.

  • He probably did, actually.

  • Ha ha. Good one.

  • well said

  • FUCK YOU

  • Mark Vallen is simply trying to jumpstart his go-nowhere career by bashing someone who actually HAS one. It's a time-honored tradition among the second-rate and failing. The fact that he passed out literature-- including HIS OWN ART-- amongst those standing in line at Fairey's show ought to tell you he's simply an opportunist out to raise his own profile. If he were truly interested in constructive dialogue he would have picked up the phone and made the local call to Fairey to ask him about it.

  • The fact that Mr. Vallen denies even having been to the Fairey opening mentioned by "mradverb" makes me wonder who's telling the truth. I believe it's Mr. Vallen. And how does "mradverb" state as fact that Mr. Vallen did not first call Mr. Fairey? Curious...

  • Are you denying that Vallen's literature and "limited edition" art was passed out to people waiting in line to enter Fairey's show? Are you stating that Vallen called Fairey? I seriously doubt you're doing either.

  • Then, if he wasn't satisfied with the answers-- or at least wanted to include them-- he could have offered up the other side of the coin. Instead, he posted a shrill call of "Look at Me!" in hopes of selling a few more canvases of his Jr. High caliber artwork. Pretty sad, really.

  • Vallen expresses his outrage at how Fairey has made a career "out of the consistent, secretive and wholesale copying of other people's artworks" and describes why, in his opinion, "it should make obvious that anyone so ill-informed should not be in the vanguard of today's political art".

  • In response to Fairey's solo exhibit, at the M. Karnowski Gallery in L.A., Ca., Mark Vallen, renowned artist & activist criticizes Fairey's work and career as an artist, in a essay published on his Art for a Change web site.

  • Okay there is a point where you will want to sell your art for money in order to make a living out of it. Its not a wrong thing to do unless you want to work a boring ass 9-5 job for the rest of your life'

FUCK HATERS ( not open minded at all )

  • he's a sell out

  • how is that?

  • he iz da best !! ??

  • Awesome, thanks for posting.
