I like the Beatles but Meryl Streep is almost on the verge of tears. Even Lennon once said that if people needed the Beatles so much they should buy their records...
@mrfester42 Ohh c'mon! You are gonna make me cry! l0l I didn't grow up with beethoven and his music is like fire! Again, they are great but this is beyond silly and in fact their music doesn't say much to you, does it? I can understand if you get overly emotional on elvis singing hos gospel songs, that I can understand.
@gnossticc What I don't understand is why you seem so sure that their music "doesn't say much" to me. I guess it's human nature to not believe what you can't understand. In fact, their music says a lot to me AND most who grew up listening to them when they were together would agree. They'd also say that the music is overwhelmingly positive. Beyond strictly the music, it is hard to explain the emotional hold they had on people (and me) but that doesn't make it any less real OR important!
@mrfester42 Ok, i made a mistake. Talking about Taxman, yes it does say a lot about high taxes in britain back then. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan, but, but I still think Streep almost made me cry. haha.
Of course they are icons, but you must agree with me that elvis' gospel songs strike a deeper chord within many, that's why graceland is always revisited every year the day Elvi's died.
He was totally flirting with Meryl!!! He kissed her three times on the lips and then held her hand and took her with him on his way out!! I've never been so jealous.. :( But I still and will always love him to death!
Meril was like totally flirting with him!!! Dude!! They kissed like three times! If u didnt know linda, youd think they wer like married or something! Garsh! Lucky stupyd person!!!
@12thmanspirit That song is called "Figure of Eight". The version seen in that video is not the same one as on the album. It IS the better of the two. i believe that video version was released on a single only.
God I remember when this first aired. I was only 14 and a tremendous McCartney fan - I had tingles up and down my spine the entire time. The late 80s-early 90s is my all time favorite Macca Era.
@AliDDJV It's a solo Paul tune called "This One". Great song. It was from his newest album then (Flowers In The Dirt) when this telecast aired. The version heard here is much slower, like a ballad.
4/28/11: I saw this for the first time tonight, 21 years after it was broadcast, and I remembered every word Paul (and a lot of the words Meryl) said, verbatim. That's how memorable his speech was to me.
Charles and Wonder tributing a guy's music? It don't get no heavier than that.
Never have I seen a more unaffected celebrity in any situation... Paul is completely comfortable being "Paul."
(The personal high point of Streep's career? Maybe.)
Hey! Ozzy winked at me.

Please what's the song played on piano in the beginning of the video ?
I think it's a Beatles song as all the other musics played while Meryl was talking were Beatles songs.
