  • Hank Mobley was a Master!!! His variations were breathtaking!

    love that!

  • crispy

  • Hard bop...loose yet tight!

  • the first time i heard this , my soul had an orgasm.

  • Me too re: WK piano - unexpected things in his touch that interpenetrate with it as ensemble that just move me literally.... He, along with these other musical adepts are as ONE in more than one way same as they are not. Love this. Yeah, as a singer, since I've heard it again recently on the radio, I've begun to spend a bit of time each day with it. I want to know it better. And I think the construction of this tune actually allows for more options for the novice who is improvisingARCHITECTURE

  • who has art blakey havent played with.

  • I love Winton Kelly 's piano so swinging ! so elegant !

    What a master !

  • love wynton's solo in this

  • is there anybody art blakey didn't play with? man, he coul do anything!

  • Holy Fucking Swing!!!

  • Art Blakey makes a darned good sideman.

  • Listen to this rhythm section. They are sooooooo ON!! Art Blakey is better than a metronome. This should be an example for bassist and drummers to stay out of the soloist way. Just lay the fricking beat down. You're there for support! Hank Mobley is on with this classic song of his and as far as Wynton Kelly goes.........HE'S EPIC!

  • @peppersax It is a good example of staying out of the way yeah, but staying out of the way is just another style of playing. If you listen to Elvin Jones, you'll hear another style of comping. A more aggressive, bombastic, in your face style. There's no ONE way to do it.

  • @akuro123 I should had elaborated a bit more on my comment (because I agree with you). Interaction is certainly something that Elvin did! But, HE DID IT WELL!!! However, there are THOSE drummers that "get in the way" of a soloist. I was directing my thoughts towards them.

  • @peppersax The thing is, it's hard to say if it's really getting in the way, or just another style. At the level these drummers play at, it's by choice and not out of ignorance. If you're referring to amateurs that play jazz, I definitely know what you mean.

  • @akuro123 Yes, amateurs!

  • @peppersax You have some serious listening to do if you truly believe that about rhythm sections comping; why not just play with an Aebersold track?

  • @bigstanmcmuffin WTF are you talking about you moron? GFY!!!

  • @peppersax Sorry I didn't read your comments below. Also, I'm not sure what GFY means but I hope it stands for good for you and in that case, GFY peppersax!!! :)

  • Thank you for posting and for the details on the rec. session . Bye
