love love this film! it completely identifies with me and my crowd of 20 somethings but I guess the 20 somethings of the 60s had to prove something bc old people were always and still are want to see young people fail.
The best thing about this film is the chance to see Michael Crawford's early film work. He not only shows a gift for physical comedy, but also pulls off the anguish of a male virgin subjected to the constant tintillation by his Lothario room mate. He brings the pain of sexual frustration forward to his characterization of the Phantom of the Opera 2 decades later. At least in this story, he gets the girl.
Hello/This is a great film and I enjoyed it immensely. It deserved the Palmes d'or./One thing, though: the criticism made by the youth about the older generation, I find it hard to swallow! Think about it: you go through the Great Depression and WWII and try to embark on a sexual revolution!/It's relatively easy to live out your sex life when you don't have to worry about bills or bombs./Yes, I know it was the 60s and all that, but really!/Cheers
A woman, Ann Jellicoe, wrote the play, on which the script is based. Without condoning rape (or false accusations), it is unfair to judge works of the past by what is politically correct over 40 years later.
This films is merely a reflection on the sexual revolution of the 60's it explrores and questions the sexual freedoms that were being discovered at the time and points out the up sides and down sides..
I love this movie. Michael was soooooooooo cute and funny as hell in this film. I can see why they called him a young Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyed. Great physical comedian.
What about "To be or not to be" ?

The voiceovers by "The Older Folks" absolutely slay me. They make this movie for me.

I suspect this is a theme in movies of the time. I could hardly watch the movie 'What's New Pussycat?' with Peter O'Toole.
