  • Thats what happens to a lot of kenne bell cobras. They get heat soaked and the computer pulls timing and you lose power. They can drop 20-40 hp depending on how heat soaked the blower gets. So his 590 becomes 550 and if the ZO6 has 496 it should make for a drivers race. In my experience it takes 50 rwhp more from a cobra to match a ZO6. Thats why these races turned out the way they did.

  • @digiam42 03cobrarick said these were the best runs they did, on his other video with the more powerful KB gt500 racing the same corvette, he mentions heat soak and you see the result, still putting down way more than the vette. Yeah they need at least 50rwhp to hang or more that's with both the c5 and c6 and still at about 140 they fall back

  • Yea, you can see the Cobras 100 horsepower advantage at the beginning of the second run..the Cobra pulled away by a half car length for the first few hundred feet then less weight and superior aerodynamics gave the Vett the edge. Both cars are sick. I have a modded 03 Jaguar S-Type R (4.2 DOHC 32 valve, smaller bore 4.6 Cobra motor with same M-112 supercharger). In stock trim it puts out 400 hp @ 410 lb/ft torque. With 3 lb pulley, full exhaust mod, etc. it belts out 475 hp @ 510 lb/ft torque.

  • @TheArfdog It (the s/c belt) did slip. You can hear the s/c whine lose pitch. My 475 hp 03 Jaguar S-Type R (s/c 4.2 . Stock 400 hp @ 410 lb/trq) blew away a 2010 Camaro SS. We repeated several runs till the s/c belt slipped. At that point I had to park her till the belt and charge coolers cooled down (heat soak).

  • @enjoi543 2nd race: Both in 2nd gear; Cobra out puls the Vette for first 200 hundred feet. 1st race: Cobra starts in 3rd gear whilst the Vette in a better advantaged 2nd gear. Mustang, though having 100 more hp is 400 pounds heavier plus a much higher drag coefficient. All variables considered: "Even match" i.e. pound for pound, motor to motor, and drag coefficient.

  • @tuugfo Shoot dude...look at the difference in displacement of both motors and weight of cars. The Cobras' little 4.6 plus nearly 400 more pounds is a huge disadvantage prior to modding. The second race reveals the Cobra initially out pulling the Vette for the first few hundred feet.

  • @chiropractic47 hmmmm sorry, that "little blown" 32v 4cam 4.6 is actualy both dimensionally larger and heavier (even without the blower) than an that 16v pushrod LS7. Don't diss an LS7 man, it was named World Racings engine of the year for a reason. If youre gonna talk displacement you might as well mention the other aspects of these ford engines. Both the 4.6 and LS7 are great engines but don't knock an LSx for displacement if you can bring up other engine aspects (ie pushrod or OHC)

  • Both awesome cars but actually in this case the cobra has the power/weight advantage (cobra 6.11lbs per horsepower and Z06 6.33lbs per hp). I know there are many, many other factors that play into this but this just goes to show just how perfectly engineered the Z06 really is.

  • no offence but i hate people on here with these Terminator Cobra's that dont know how to drive them. When you are racing hold the throttle to the floor when you shift..... you get pulled as soon as you let off the gas. As long as your quick and practice at it you wont hurt nothing. I do it to my 94 Cobra all the time and transmission hasn't gone out yet :)

  • The Z06 is 3130 lbs and the Cobra is 3665 - weight is the reason. Seems a lot of people don't realize how much weight affects performance.

  • @03CobraRick yep you're 100% correct. Weight is often one of the most over looked aspects on a car. Cobra's are actually quite heavy for what they are as opposed to the Z06 that is super light for what it is. It's hard to beat the new Z06's stock much less when they are modded. Between the power to weight ratio and the awesome aerodynamics. They are a bad ass machine, but the cobra makes me want to nut in my pants too lol.

  • @vegetaum Actually the coefficient of drag for the Z06 is .34, and .32 for the Cobra - so the total drag force acting on both cars is very similar, although the Vette appears to be more aerodynamic. However, the Z06 is creating much more downforce than the Cobra, and downforce = induced drag.

  • @03CobraRick No, the Z06's Coefficient of drag is .31cd. Not sure were you got your info from. Also the Z06 still produces some lift at high speed, just not as much as a cobra and is why you see video's of the Z06 just crusin along at 190mph without issue.

  • @03CobraRick No, the C5 Z06 was .29 cd, the base c6 is .289 cd, the Z06 is .31cd. Ever wonder why it takes cobra's and GTO's 100rwhp more to keep up with the Z06's(and sometimes not even keep up)? Cd, better gearing, weight. In that order when doing roll ons.

  • @vegetaum Yes but it's a coefficient, not a constant. That number must be multiplied by the surface air of the object. The Vette has a smaller front end, so its coefficient is muliplied by a lower number. The drag coefficient may be similar, but drag area is much different.

  • @ls1killa its b/c of 2 things. #1 the corvette is lighter with better front to rear balance. its 51/49 front to rear (almost perfect). the Cobra has an iron block 4.6l engine which adds tons of weight to the front end, therefore bad weight transfer. #2 the corvette's drivetrain is built with better quality. also there is less power loss from the crank to the tires. on top of all that, it is more aerodynamic and is built for high speeds.

  • He's won/lost a few over the past year or so, I just haven't filmed any. We really don't care who wins or loses, we just do it for fun and to compare the performance. Most every car we set the C6 Z up with was nearly even or the Z was faster. He's lost to a 730 RWHP C6 Z, a TT'd E36 M3 and a ~620 AWHP Evo. They're certainly not unbeatable, it's just hard to find cars that are a good match for a modded Z.

  • Agree, that's kinda what i was getting at. C6 Z06 is a hell of a car. It seems like you got the idea i was insulting your mustang, which is not the case at all. IMO, a terminator cobra was the best car money could buy. 400HP stock, and a block and forged internals good for 1000HP, doesn't get any better than that.

    Your right Man! The z06 s such a beast! Even stock it will rarely lose to even heavily modded cars. Light weight, perfect weight distribution, killer hp and torque curve, I would say almost the perfect car. Love that stang too, I love them all.

  • The Z has an intake, headers, catted x-pipe and a tune.  They make about 450-460 RWHP stock for comparison.

  • really its only about 700. but those c6z's are beasts. I have an c5z and its pretty bad but those new ones are on a whole other level like its not even funny.80-100hp differential in a c5 to cobra is a darn good race. you can see here with 100 hp difference the zo6 just leaves him after the first shift.

  • Awesome cars both of them. I have seen other videos with the corvette down 80- 100 hp with SC Cobras and the Corvette still comes out on top. The ZO6 is the ultimate ass kicker. Great video !!!

  • Oh, and my car right now books for only 18k, so fuck your 40k Z06, which is BS, they hold their value, but even if, still less than half. And it's a lot more fun to build a car rather than buy one. I've had a blast building my Terminator, and although, mostly I'm not the underdog, except for Z06's, I was, no more. I spent big on suspension/brakes and weight reduction. I paid big to have my suspension setup. You assume whatever you like, "ASSUME". Come to the circuit where I race & get schooled.

  • I don't blame him for just lettin off it on the 2nd race lol. A Vette is a real sports car, 100 less hp or not, it's gonna be real tough. But IMO, I like the fact the cars are very close in numbers when they're stock, yet $30,000 or so apart. I think I'll take my two Terminators lol. Nah I like the Z06, it kiils the Euro's, and we need that.

    But honestly, that 100hp should really have done better, IMO. Maybe it was a little driver issue, but.. Which KB? I've got the 2.8H, I doubt he does..

  • First off, this guy "only" made 85 - 90 more hp than me. Secondly, he was an inexperienced driver so it did look worse than it should have. Thirdly, there's ANOTHER video of me racing a 604rwhp KB Cobra and I still edged him out. And trust me, you get your money's worth in WARRANTEED factory parts in the extra 30k you spend in the Z06. Anyone who has actually driven the two cars and has an objective opinon would agree.

    Not everyone spends all their money on power, I spent big on suspension, then it's setup, gears, clutch/flywheel, weight reduction, and brakes. I have no problem at my local circuit with Z06's, and my cost is still under 40k. Nonsense.

  • No, dumbass. You get 30k more in both performance and reliability. And even with the car tuned, it's covered under warranty (already had the motor swapped with the mods on it). You obviously haven't driven a C6 Z before. It's miles ahead of the Terminator in EVERY aspect, even if you can mod yours to be as fast. And Cobras aren't NEARLY as reliable as Corvettes are. Also, used C6 Z's are in the 40's now.

  • Dyno the Cobra .....it isnt NEAR what it says. I would say bolt on super "kit". Isnt tuned isnt tested, isnt driven, that Zo6 should have been killed. I am a die hard chevy fan, but the z06 isnt that badass on the street. This one should have been walked.

  • Seems that you may be misinformed. I've been in the Z06 while racing several other ~580-600 RWHP KB Cobra's and they are always about dead even, the Cobra's usually fall behind a half car to a car due to gearing differences at the start of the race and then remain in that position for the rest of the race. They are very evenly matched. Remember, this isn't a stock C6 Z06, it's about 50 RWHP up from stock. A 525 RWHP Cobra is about even with a stock Z06.

  • "03CobraRick" You're about dead on, before I got the 2.8H I was running a different setup, 518whp, and I was always even. Since the 2.8H I had the car setup to run circuit, so it's got racing suspension, Brembo's, weight reduction, geared, FAR too much to list. It's setup to beat Z06/Vipers on the circuit, at 1/3 the Cost. (Car Accident Settlement paid for it, had a '99 crushed ) I also race my VR6 and Saab at the circuit.

    Drag racing is BS, go circuit, you'll never drag again, ever, I promise.

  • CobraRick, can you please tell me your modds? Which KB do you have, who tuned it? Are you running pump? (You realize you have have it set to use two tuned, and go out and race ppl using 110 octane right? You'd see well over 700hp easy.

    Anyways I'd like to know your modds, and your honest opinion why you lost, because I did the match (I'm a physics nerd) and you should have won, although I didn't figure in Aerodynamics, but they shouldn't matter in such a "quick, start/done" race. Any info thx.

  • the numbers do add up... ive seen it time and time again a cobra with 100 more horses and usually you get a dead even run with these new vetts. vette is lighter and has better aero dynamics thats makes up for its lower hp rating. i thought the kb would hang better too but maybe the guy in the vette is shifting like a madman. good race either way. i prefer ford but i give respect to the bow ties ;)

  • that jus goes to show you how restricted the montrous 7liter beast is from the factory a tune on the car and its a totally different animal. what people dont realize is fords approach to more power which is the forced induction easily adds 200+lbs to the car the weight is fromt the charger all its components and of course the iron block. the N/A z06 is an incredible car! and drag racing isnt where the z06 really shines its on the track where it feels most at home!

  • well i said 400 lbs because a Z06 with full options is a little over 3200 lbs and the cobra coupe will always be 3665 because there are no options for that year. either way i still cant see how this race turned out that way

  • WOW come on the cobra driver loses 1/2 a car every shift! and i think either the cobra or vette is lying about its dyno numbers because even though the cobra is about 400 lbs more i just cant see how 94hp more in the cobra cant ATLEAST even it out =/

  • The Vette is much lighter(quicker takeoff) and more aerodynamic(better at highway speed) than the Mustang, plus the Vette also has a much better drivetrain setup(i.e. taller tranny gears and stiffer clutch) so this looks about right for a highway run. I think that Cobra did a damn good job at hanging with a C6 Z06. There are not many cars that can...

  • cobra needs driver mod... shifts to slow ;) not hating either car both are badass but with a diff driver I am positive there would have been a different outcome.
