who on earth or no longer on the earth has played the piano better than this. beethoven? he was meant to be pretty good on it.does mll have any sense of imbalance or error?it does'nt sound like he does.last of this collection dynamics/force totally frightening.comparisons may be naive but in terms of pure piano playing irrespective of genre i've never heard anyone better seen horowitz and o peterson m slim j dupree live and others etc et al.meade lux realy is a freak by that i mean genius.
Nice upload. This boogie woogie composition is one of the best, maybe even THE best!
(a little bit sad to see/hear how the master Lewis adjusted his left hand pattern in later years in order to play the song at more and more breakneck speeds, and thereby sacrifying a bit of the magic in the song)
Regarding the first recorded boogie woogie piano piece...
My vote goes to Jimmy Blythe - Chicaco Stomps - recorded already in 1924.
'Chicaco Stomps' has a classic boogie woogie walking bass left hand (the pattern is very often used even today) and it's in the 12 bar form all the way. He recorded the song at a pace of around 130BPM.
Pinetop Smith was the first though, to use the word 'Boogie Woogie' in a song title (Pinetop's Boogie Woogie).
A salute to Meade Lux Lewis for starting this honkey tonk train as the leading steam locomotive. Glad to see these rare documents. 5*****, Uli ... :DDD

I thought Pinetop's was recorded in 1928?

It's the difference between recorded and released - the 1929 Paramount release of httb was apparently recoreded in Dec 1927

Only Eeco can come up with this "history". He is the "archivist" and TRUE artist.
