yeah. The way I work I build up layers of charcoal by using additive and subtractive (erasing) methods.

nice, you really do well with charcoal. Hey I'm an artist myself, usually using simple pencil to draw, I've been getting into charcoal however. What different types of charcoal do you use and what exactly do you use to shade with it?

I usually use the charcoal sticks. I believe it is called vine charcoal. No charcoal pencils for me. Also I use compressed cahrcoal for the really dark areas.

Hope this helps...o and I use my fingers to shade, as well as the occasional blending stump and chamois

i just did the joker and what i noticed was, for the effect to be fully complete you have to take into account the very little cracks in his makeup, which are very fiddly and annoying to do- please dont do the joker! lol. nice work man. *****
