Looking at all the girls from the different countries is so odd, probably because of the stark contrast the Chinese gymnasts provide against competitors such as Johnson... it's like they're almost alien; not just in their questionably pre-pubescent physical appearance but their demeanor.
I love how people use the "..mortgaged their house twice" thing as the official sign of financial sacrifice. I want to hear about one of these gymnast's mothers becoming a prostitute or drug dealer to support their baby's Olympic dream. Now that would a catchier story than "whaw whaw second mortgage whaw whaw.

Nastia is my absolute favorite, but we must remember that she doesn't have to pay for coaching or for a gym. Shawn's parents mortgaged their house twice to pay for her gymnastics; but that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
Christine is beast at predicting the outcome of competitions. She was right about Romania beating Russia for the bronze medal in the team competition, and she also predicted that Liukin would win the All Around. She must be a good gambler lol.

@blokflip13 The noise (though I hate to bag on my own country) was MUCH worse in Atlanta in 96. But you just have to remeber that (most) of the people are cheering on their team, not trying to distrupt the competition. Besides, when you are competing you don't really focus on the cheering. You're in the zone. Especially these gymnasts. Like on beam the only voice you hear is yours and your coaches giving you corrections(in your head obviously) =)
I will always say Nastia's vault score was ridiculous. She should have gotten a 15.500 (meaning a 10 for execution). Her vault was so beautiful I rewound the vid to see it a second time. I usually can't wait until the vault rotation is over because I think it's boring in comparison to the other 3, but SHE makes it ballet! Come back for 2012, Nastia! Please!
In 2009, it's all about Bridget Sloan, and everything she do, Linkin is already gone.Only True ALL TIME GYMNASTS LIKE Svetlana Khorkina, Lilia Podkopayeva, Svetlana Boginskaya, and Nadia Comenici will be remembered forever. I remember in 2004, when Carly Patterson won the all around, everyone call her the best gymnasts ever, and everyone loves her even more than how they like Nastia, but right now We rarely talk about Patterson, and this will also happen to Linkin in a few year.
Nastia is in no way "gone". She competed on beam at the US Classic and US National Championships. She just took herself out of contention for Worlds because she didn't feel she was up to par for Worlds. Same goes for Chellsie and Shawn. Neither of them are finished, Shawn started training again after having taken a break to do Dancing With the Stars. Bridget might be the big superstar now, but once Nastia, Chellsie, and Shawn compete again, she'll have some competition.

What is CLEARLY not fair is to say that Liukin is the only gymnast who got injured, and who gives everything to gymnastics. Shawn trains as hard, and has a better technic on every apparatus. Besides, she dominated Liukin before the Olympics. For that, she deserved to win the gold for her difficulty, her technic and her clean forms.

Yes they are mistakes but the artistry is what I'm trying to get at, which alot of gymnasts in this quad's code have lost, and that artistry is appreciated. Even the Chinese who have mastered the technical aspect of nearly every apparatus have been called "robotic" and said to have "lacked an aesthetic elegance."
I agree that liukin is very very elegant but Khorkina is nothing like her. Khorkina`s quite stiff compared to Nastia. They just have similar body types.
i always disliked Khourkina. On the bars she had great tricks, but she always looked like she would snap on the dismounts and dislocate a knee on the other events. especially vault! YIKES! I also think Nastia has FAR better form (especially in the legs) than Khourkina did.
I know what you mean, she looked too delicate to be competing gymnastics, especially from 2003 worlds and at Athens. However, I think around 1996 to about 2001 she looked pretty good but she got scary skinny at Athens.

That is why her gymnastics was sloppy towards the end of her career in 2004. She wanted redemption. Nastia performed great! But she was not screwed. You cannot compare Svetlana to Nastia. Different times and different circumstances!

Anyone could tell me HOW the judges managed to find almost 0.5 to be deducted from Liukin's Vault.
That shoud be a 10.0 back in the 80' and early 90'.
