@PILMAN How do you clean your barrel? I hear aluminum and stainless steel rods foul the barrel. Also when I insert the rod from the back of the barrel I have to push the rod at an angle because the receiver is in the way or could I do it from the other end? Sorry I'am new to rifles. Thanks
@PILMAN I had to lightly bang the sides with the rubber handle of a screwdriver to get it off. I went to the gun store where I bought it and two people that worked there couldnt do it by hand. They took it to the back used some tools now it fits perfect
@Captncronica You gotta push in the recoil spring slightly while pushing down the dust cover, it's tricky, trust me it took me a good hour to get it then I was like "oh, that wasn't so difficult"
@Captncronica the galil dust cover is intended to be extremely tight toleranced. its to keep the rear sight from loosing zero. DO NOT have a gunsmith remove material or dremel or file at it. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE!
Valmet continued making those rifles with different calibers from 5.56, .308 etc. up to 80's or 90's when Sako bought valmet, or they merged. The last for the series is the RK-95TP adopted by FDF or civilian variant M92. After the israelis started to make Galils they've evolved seperately ofcourse. Still they stayed kinda identical for most parts. RK series has pretty much died since. The new galils look cool though..
@awesomefableable Sorry for being a history teacher but: Galil was made with machinery bought from valmet by Israelis based on documentation from valmet. It's based on the finnish Valmet M-62 or FDF name RK62. The RK62 was designed from an ak or an ak clone smuggled from east germany (according to legend(?)). Then It was redesigned to work better on cold environments and designed to be made more precisely and to have better sights and easier to clean gas tube. FDF chose the 7.62x39 version..
@tokishreds it's pretty tight and gas tube shouldn't really move, it fits in groove. Theres a lip that connects and keeps it in place, century arms golani is not bad, about as accurate as an AR.
Hey Pilman, my clip has a lot of play. After I snap it in it moves side to side and actually makes noise like rattling sound when I'm walking w/gun. Does the same with both clips. Does your clip fit solid w/out much movement?
you can take an ak 47 bolt carrier and use it with your galil if you have a quad rail it helps so you don't scrape up your knuckles. just change out the piston. the ak 47 bolt itself is not universal to the galil.
You can get one for 600 now, most are built by Century on a American receiver with Israeli parts nowadays, they are one of the most accurate AK variants you can get and milled receiver. Downside is that you can only use Galil mags with the gun and there doesn't seem to be interchangeable parts from other AK platforms.

is the field strip conducted exactly as with the IMI Galil version?
going to israel soon and i might be conducted with handling galils, just wonder if i could teach the field strip completely from this video, or if it is a better way to do it @ the net.
In US you can own firearms that qualify under 922(r) and contain 16" or more barrel, and fire semi automatic. You can also own machine guns in most states but need a NFA tax stamp/
Don't use steel case ammo in the Galil. Wolf 223 resin deposits in the chamber with each shot. The gun will fire perfectly for a while, but eventually a case will jam in the chamber. When I say jam I mean JAM! Like it feels like it's welded in JAM. You may need a gunsmith to remove it.... Respect your weapon. Stick with brass cases.
I heard about those cases not sealing the chamber properly (steel cases hardly expand) and carbon fouling in the chamber causing jams. Cleaning the chamber before using brass ammo (that will expand and stick to the carbon fouling) seems to do the trick. Oh well, I'll know better when the Army will so kindly issue a Galil to me.
hey budy u seem to know a bit about the galil tell me would it be ok to use wolf 223. steel cased ammo through one because i know if u do on an AR it will destroy the shell deflector and do much more harm to an AR but what about a Galil because i have been getting mixed reviews about useing thanks for your time reading this and good video.
Nice Galil PILMAN. I am about ready to buy the Century Golani. I bought a gun from ORF a few years ago and their customer service is terrible. I never bought there again.
@OSUCop The cover is a bitch to get on but you shouldnt have to pound it, line up your cover with the front groves and right before you press it down in the rear, push in the recoil spring from the rear with your thumb and pop the rear of the dust cover on until it fits the grooves and the recoil spring will pop into place, that's how I did it.
@OSUCop First, line the release pin @ the back just below the groove that it fits in, then pushing the dust cover forward, making sure you have it lined up correctly into the slot where the gas tube lines up, then pull back quickly on the charging handle,, this will allow the cover release to move up and into its slot. Cycle the bolt to assure it cycles correctly. This is a trick a Marine Colonial showed me that works well with the AK 47, and it works just as well in this format
also intersting why always compare with all the first AK-47? arent there any new AKs for sell by IZHMASH? Look at russian made AK-100 serie they have NO recoil at all that Galil has. Galil is also heavy. The heaviest AK-Type rifle on market, about 4.1 kg.
Man Galil is not better then AKM, there are lot of custom AKM made by russians with "special features" so what? the IZHMASH Factory chif told they wont produse custom AKMs, only standart ones for military. If someone wants to have special features go to small arms firmas and pay for it. its logical.
It's not necessarily better but it is basically a AK47 (AKM) with improved features. Milled receiver, improved peep sights, improved ergonomics (handguard, pistol grip), similar FAL style folding stock and improved safety. Much of that could be considered an improvement although it is still technically an AK47 variant.
Your missing the point, the Galil has specific features not found on an AK. The receiver is milled but in a different shape, charging handle upturned, gas tube is not held on by latch it's held on by dust cover, pistol grip/handguard furniture different, sights are peep sights, flashhider different, gas block different, stock is steel folding, safety is thumb safety opposed to just side safety, mags are different as well.

galil offers the 5.56 round which is fundamentally more accurate and has longer range then the 7.62x39mm that the ak, uses.
the sights on the galil are better, (peep sights) the same exact sights that you will see on an M-16/M4.
apart from that, its the same design.
