MKWii was obviously just a fast job by nintendo using a modified DD Engine to use as a gap filler to the familyfriendly/harcore crossover market, and to stop people getting bored. As a game itself if you're looking for fun, its worth £40, but if you've played and owned double dash before, you can see why it really isn't.

i own double dash but i LOVE mkWII

MKWii was a big disappointment to me. If double Dash had online play and previous version tracks it would have been better. The new tracks are uninspired, and so is the gameplay. DD was fresh frantic and new, the items worked better as well as you could use them strategically to defend your position. The music's also weak in MKWii. In fact even  the graphics are better on DD (because of downgrading them to keep online smooth). The whole presentation of the game had more put into it.

Agreed. What makes mk wii even worse is the fact that they completely fucked offline multiplayer: when you play 3 or 4p the game slows down a lot and the window for the 4th player doesn´t make sound, the battle mode can´t be played on free mode and the shine runners and bob omb blast have been taken out, the versus run can´t be played freely too (you are forced to do little cups from 2 to 32 tracks) etc... so many options and game modes taken out plus a sad character roster (4 babies, 2 bowsers)

Sometimes i just wish that nintendo had gone next gen with the console power,thatway developers would have no excuse to produce such poor games. The truth is now, nintendo are trailing behind on gameplay depth and expanding on their games, because there's little they can do with it when comapred to the 360 and ps3. Graphics are one thing, capability to make a game interesting and dyanamic is another. And frankly i see other developers overtaking nint franchises in terms of quality in the future.

It took me getting this game to realize how annoying the pre-sets Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario Kart were. I love how in Double Dash, in the races, there are no pre-set positions for the computer players. It's great, and I expect it to get even better with Mario Kart: Wii!
