Listen up ladies this a good video on how to behave in the outdoors... the last time I went with a female in an outdoors adventure she was fun and did not whine and was very helpful setting up camp. She was very green and did not know what to do, she asked a lot of questions which I liked, and it gave me the sence that she was very interested in learning something new. I showed her how to pack and adjust a hiking backpack, put up a tent and use a small gas stove... she said she learned a lot...
Fantastic - I wish there were more women like this around. I'm a bit old fashioned though I like do all the work but some great advice - surprising your boyfriend with a sneaky wee survival fact or trick would make his day. Yeah, right. Any girl that would "need" this video or find it useful, is going to be completely dumbfounded at your lack of a definition of "basic survival skills" they should have prior to venturing out into "wilderness" with a potentially unfit camp leader/boyfriend.
How about this for a first time camper suggestion...
...1. Go car camping first to see if you like it/can handle it. Somewhere 'kinda' in wilderness, but not too far away from "services."
2. Tell her to bring every warm piece of clothing she owns (and a very warm sleeping bad)...that'll eliminate 50%-80% of the potential whining right there!
3. Be candid about the shower/bathroom situation...(in this situation, Wet Ones are a girl's best friend...screw diamonds)
4. And finally, go during good weather...especially for a first-timer

I don't mind going to a hardware store if I need something specific, like a tap and die; I can be in and out and my brain doesn't start to die on me. But droning around perfumed stores for half a day looking at pink and sparkling stuff and what not just makes me wish I bought that flame-thrower. It gives me the shivers just thinking about all those artificial lights and manikins and insanely friendly strangers... Its like suddenly stepping into a world where they're all hopped up on Goophenthol.

As an old lady veteran of North Cascades and Olympic Mtn camping, I am 100% for the 3 rules and their order. The only one I have to add is to keep your senses open to the beauty of the outdoors.

My ex liked camping but had only ever trailer camped before she met me and I took her tenting in a wilderness area. She freaked when she saw how much work I put into setting up camp.
