Oh in the version I watch even once the contestant has opted out he can still see if he was right with the answer he WOULD have chosen or not.

Never seen the American version before, surprised competing contestants are allowed to shout out things like "Duuuuuh!!" when a question comes up!

They were only allowed to do it because it was for charity,just having fun.Usually no ones alowed to say anything during a question.

If they want to guarantee a minimum of $32K for the charity, then they could do that without making a mockery of the game. Normal contestants were guaranteed $1K, but they did that behind the scenes. Charity episodes should have been handled the same way.

It was very boring to watch celebs get free answers all the way up through 32K, then spend maybe 5 minutes actually playing the game.

Adam West was a great guest though, just wish we could see more of his own intellect at work.

normal contestants are not guaranteed $1k, you can see many contestants on youtube who missed one of the first 5 questions. Someone even walked away with the $300 on Meredith Viera's version.

to some extent I agree it may hurt the integrity of the game but it makes it more exciting to see them finally have to play the game alone with the lights down

I remember seeing the $1K minimum mentioned in the fine print during the credits. Even if you lost in the first few questions, they would still give you $1000 behind the scenes.

At least that's how I remember it. I'd love to see that fine print again from the end of one of the old shows, just in case I'm nuts. I'm pretty sure it said something like that.
