If you are so interested in getting an exotic, loving pet such as an adorable unaggressive coon, go to you local wildlife center and ask about orphaned wild aanimals or injured ones, for most are overstocked with baby raccoons let alone other animals who need help and attention. As a baby raccoons are curious playful mescheivious but llack the danger, and alot of the destructive adhd behavoir many develoe through age. do some research, and help save wildlife around you.

Don't get a raccoon! They are endearing, but they are the wrong blend of aggressiveness, furious restlessness, curiosity and destructiveness to make them impossible pets. Few people could put up with their megrims! A friend of mine has three full-grown 'coons, and they travel around with him in his pick-up truck. They get into everything, fiddling with the keys, his beard, his shirt, every dashboard knob, opening the glove compartment, fiddling in any available pocket, etc WITHOUT pause.

@WeeWyllie They are very good country pets as long as you have a very tight kennel . If you live in the city don't even think you can have a pet like this. I always say they are a mix between a parrot, a cat and a dog. Mine loved to sit on my shoulder and mess with my hair or my ear. . I am a farmer ..I tried taking my little guy with in the tractor while i was cultivating ..Wrong Move...oops.

You have to get a raccoon at an extremely early age to make a pet of it. You litterely have to take it from it's mothers tit or find it abandoned and still nursing. I would advise the use of heavy welding gloves when handling even a baby unless you are trained in how to handle them.

We have them at our cottage. Reach with both hands and they'll feel threatened. Any kind of grip on their body and they react as its a threat. Their bite generally won't break the skin as it's more out of curiosity of the texture/salt of your skin, but if they bite out of fear, they can puncture pretty darn good, and of course, beware of rabies. 'Would make good pets except they're too darn curious and can't stay out of trouble.
