  • I BOUGHT ONE FOR 50P ( In the UK) FUCK YES.

  • I want one of these!

  • Ah sweet memories. Had one as a child, but ofcourse being a child treated it as a toy.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Just got lucky !! just picked one up for free. person told me it didnt work i dropped batteries in moved from the CAL position and "boop" it works just fine, its dirty but it works fine.

  • 2:35 AWSOME i got one tho but i suck at it

  • I HAS 1

  • can someone put up a tutorial on how to use the adsr cus i get it but its hard trying to make sounds with a calculator;like drum beats (if thats possible on a vl tone), but im sure it is

  • @bullsit7

There is an original manual over at polyvalens, under manuals.

  • pos

  • at first i though wow..now im thinking-what the fuck?

  • Man, I loved playing with this thing so much when I was like 5, and I figured out how to use all functions too. I also mimicked the built in rhythm that way. XD

  • Too bad hardly anyone among those who played it back then knew how to work with those parameters (or suspect they existed at all) and only used presets¡¡¡!!! As a matter of fact many of them were children: it's a "home" keyboard. Maybe not that cheap, as it was new in its kind, but not taken as a "serious" instrument. Maybe that's why later small models such as PT-1 were a lot more basic and only included presets.

  • @BilisNegra My Dad was showing me the Parameters. I was in childhood, so i think it was the first Synthesizer i programmed in my life .... Nobody has an idea how many other synths will follow ;-)

  • EH! STEVE!

  • Check out the amazing things Eli does with his VL-1

    youtube.com/watch?v=_fxCOd5d5Iw

  • 0:30 the theme of my childhood

  • Wow, the potential of this machine is endless :)

  • @bikingisbetter Got mine from a Goodwill! Thrift stores are the way!

  • i used to spend so much time playing with one these when i was little... prolly around 1986 -87

  • Do you know the tittle of the song of the yellow key? Please answer!

  • @setp The Manual say: "A German Folk Song", more i don't know.

  • @DrSqu It's Da Da Da by Trio

  • @setp It's called "Unterlanders heimweh"

  • @setp I had one of these as a kid. The song was called "Toy Symphony".

  • @setp It's called "Toy Symphony"

  • @setp

    "Ich bin ein Musikante"(Deutsch)

    "The Music Man"(English)

    "山の音楽家"[yama no ongakuka](Japanese)

  • Comment removed

  • @setp - On the ROM-pack of my PT-80 it is called "Unterlanders Heimweh".

  • @setp It's called Unterlanders Heimweh. That song was also in Casio PT-82 keyboard. Replace the watch?v= value with lUUbgC2v9Qs to listen to the melody in PT-82.

  • wait, how'd you make the new sound? With the calculator? I'M CONFUSED.

  • @fish300017

Yes :) The numbers (8 digits = 8 parameters) you are saving in memory, also are the parameters for the synthesizer. adsr, waveform, lfos ...

  • @DrSqu You mean this thing has an ADSR? I had one of these but all I ever used were the presets and the calculator function. Now I'm really wishing my brother didn't take it apart.

  • @dwmitch

You can program 1 user sound with 8 parameters value 0-9:

    1: Waveforms

    2: Attack (Time)

    3: Decay (Time)

    4: Sustain (Level)

    5: Sustain (Time)

    6: Release (Time)

    7: Vibrato

    8: Tremolo

  • @fish300017 I just posted a video explaining how to do this. Let me know if its clear !

  • The first time I listened to that "Da Da Da" song I remembered exactly which keyboard those sounds came from.

  • someday i will get one.

  • Ha! I love the wah wah

  • Wow old school dude =)

  • That was a sveet little vintage casio. Nice wah wah effect you did:)

  • That sounds like a keyboard i had with kirmit the frog on the front of it. What is the higest note that keyboard goes up to cus the rang of was an almost low G to A medium high B.

  • @funmike1987 I had the same keyboard you mention and I just found out that keyboard was made from the hardware of this but without some features, that explains all the similarities.

  • OMG!! My grandma had one of these!!! :D

  • I had it back in the 80's, and I still remember how to play that built in song. wow man, you brought back memories. Thank you

  • wtf i thogh this was the pt 1

  • this is legit i wonder where u can get one these days

  • Whoa u were ravaging that thing

you dont have to grab a 30 year old piece of equpment and smash it onto the table and stuff

  • @julianbinder123 I saw him not smashing this on the table or anything, he just USES it as what its been made for. Besides those 30 year old things are more solid then most of the shit you can buy these days that breaks when you give it a hard look.

I killed mine while trying to clean it thoroughly, peace for its soul. :p

  • I think the confusion is that people in 1979 insisted that they were already IN the 80's so things from 1979 are often considered 1980 minus one. Look at the Village People movie, they actually say "we're in the 80's now".

Thanks for the upload, looking everywhere for this. The Trio song overlays the casio beat with their own drums but this is the real thing, pure and perfect!

  • Any keyboard that has the "Da Da Da" beat is cool! Also clever moving your hand over the speaker to simulate a filter effect - I could even hear a little resonance in the lower notes!

  • I just got one of these, with box, instructions and carry case, excellent condition...wait for it....FOR 20P!!

    Bargain!!

  • that song is scary lol

  • is it better than tyros 3 ?

  • i wanna get one ~~~

  • I had one of these. Bloody great for playing the Eastenders theme song haha.

  • My father was awesome, he brought this home on his business trip to Japan. I remember it so well, this was so epic for me. Respect. Dad, if you have Youtube in heaven, you have to watch this, and try to leave a comment somehow ....

  • @wiibart sounds like a good man

  • @anthonymobfigaz Thanks, yes he was

  • @wiibart And i say repect to your comment your father is lucky to have a child as yourself. very beautiful words you just said..

    cheers

  • @wiibart oh grow the fuck up honest to god.

  • I recognize that demo.

    Friggin' Homestar Runner.

  • @NordicOten "Geez man! You don't need to play the whole demo! I didn't know it was your turn!" I wanna get one of these so I can do the music for own homestar fan animations.

  • eh eh my first piano, i was 6 yo, it is just wonderful to see it again :)

  • hehe...I had one too. Good times :)

  • uooooo i have found my mother's one...

i didn't know it culd be so useful

    he he he

  • hehehe I have that :)

  • something about reminds me of a Commadore 64....cool

  • @hogantmwnn The sound. That fantasy sound would be great for 64 game music

  • I pestered my Dad for one of these for Christmas in the early '80s (and I got it, heh heh).

It's still in my Dad's loft!

  • thats just so adorable little synth

  • i just bought this today at a thrift store for $2.92 :D!

  • they go for 50 eur at ebay!

  • @evanthepanther I got mine from work for £3 :)

  • @evanthepanther Lucky you, I just got overly nostalgic and won a bid for $40 on eBay for one! :S

  • That makes me want some Sweet Cuppin' Cakes.

  • @homestar92 EH! STEVE! hahaha Homestar is amazing.

  • How old is that thing ??? xD

  • The best review that could be done about this machine. Congrats

  • I had one of these when I was a child!

  • nice toy

  • We had 1 or 2 of these back in Jnr High School back in 1982/1983 and everybody wanted to play with it!

It was totally state of the art back then.

So was the Sony Walk Man and VCRs! Also the Apple 2 computers were just coming into our school as well. This is just as classic as the floppy disk's were lol

  • I just thought of something. Could any of you that own one of these try and re-create the loop section of "Games People Play" by Alan Parsons Project?

  • like my daddy's old piano when he was 7 ^^,

  • wow! nice that wah!

i dont know what casio people was thinking when they put a calculator in it!

  • holy shit this was shit

  • lembro me de ver isto na primaria NN

  • baby !

  • What sort of things can you do with this, for example, can you record notes and play them back, could you give me a little more information please?

  • i have one as well. yes, you can record notes and play back with the 2 blue keys upper right.

  • watch the video u lazy idiot-he demostrated it

  • Jeeezzzzzus.........i actually had one of those back in the 80's,

    demo song was very annoying

  • haha.. me too..

  • Hey this is a Polish song at 1:09 . Formacja nieżywych schabów - Da Da Da

  • No it isn't, it's from a German band named Trio.

  • I WANT THAT ONE!!!!! :)

  • So cool...

  • And some flange is also very nice on the lo-fi sound of it.

  • it was first made in 1979

  • Ok, i changed to 1979 :-)

  • I really like the low tech Wahwah!

  • lol

  • I'll try that someday. With my equally basic radio with MP3 line in.

  • You can make really Fly Like An Eagle-ish stuff with the right echo settings in GoldWave. 5 one minute echos sound really nice.

  • Omg I want one, they're so hard to come by!

  • i got this

  • its so cute

  • ADSR-mungous.

  • Bought one today for € 5,-

    I love fleamarkets.

  • I'm not a keyboard player but I have a virtual VL-1 on my PC. Sometimes I like to noodle on it. And with ADSR you can program it with 8 digit numbers. My birthday date sounded funny. So did the last 8 digits of my cell phone number. Wikipedia has links to the VL-1 emulator. You can use VST Host to use the VL-1 standalone. Enjoy.

  • owned. during grade school! lol

  • first played this keyboard in 1981....awesome!!!

  • This keyboard's sound was the entire soundtrack to Trio's "Da Da Da".

  • Oh my.....you're hands are beautiful! lol

CLASS machine lol...gotta get me one of those. x

  • anyone else notice that this is the beat ben used on a few songs on the all-time quarterback album?

  • How Atari 2600-ish can a musical toy get <3

  • DaDaDa!

  • where can I buy one I have been looking all over and I cant find any!! I want one tell me how, please send the details to me!!! I am begging, please....................

  • i just got another one yesterday, for my "pay no more" price of 5 dollars. actually it was the radio shack one.. not bad considering i turned one down last week for 10. it IS indeed a real 1 oscillator analog synth, making new sounds with it is fun.. the only reason i have two is that i'm sending one off to the czech republic as a gift.. after this i wont be buying them so, if you go to the same swapmeets as me i'll leave them be for you. .

  • Da da da...

  • I can hear that Keyboard Strong Bad Demo Song.

  • if you want to sell this stuff, message me okay.. ready to buy with paypal

    thx

  • Not only "DA DA DA" by Trio:

also SOUND IN "THE BUBBLE BUNCH" BY THE EARLY RAPPER JIMMY SPICER.

  • does it have headphone ports or anything?

  • I had that exact keyboard when I was younger. I played that thing to death. I didn't realize the synthesizer functions. I just randomly got it to work form time to time. I guess because I was a kid and didn't bother to read the instructions. That thing was loads of fun.

  • is this really a synthesizer?

  • yes...

  • yep.. well.. actually that's kind of vaugue even samplers are "real " synthesizers.. but if you mean a real ANALOG synth .. it sure is..

  • THA BEST!!!!!!!!!

  • my dad got me dat for my 5th birthday, i think, i had so much fun for years to come with that thing, it was so advance for that time (1998)

  • I really like this keyboard, I think it's awesome. Nice to see the unit hasn't been Circuit Bent, I really don't like Curcuit Bending at all. I want one of these. Did Trio actually use one of these in Da Da Da?

  • No ofcourse not silly! it didnt even exist yet when kraftwerk made: da da da...ha ha ha

  • cool thingy, advance to for that size :D

  • I feel for you. The VL tone was worth more than the chick, in all regards.

  • ahh da kommt der Soundeffekt her von dem Song. klingt ziemlich GameBoy-Cybrig

  • does anyone know a decent effects machine that can be used with the VL-1?

  • I use a Boss DD6 delay pedal going into a Wah pedal . . . Big fun!

  • i think i used to have this... does it have a calculator built into it?

  • could you tell me the code you used for the sound you got around 3:30?
