I wonder, why an advanced athlete such as yourself is using a Smith machine.

@devilstoysuk2 , I usually lift once a day but sometimes twice a day if I'm working out with a client. a newbie should start out training a little bit at a time. So I'd say about an hour a day until your body gets accustomed to lifting. This helps prevent to much soreness. Remember to take it easy and start out with light weight. Hope that helps. :-)
