That is probably a signal processor setting...but that is small potatoes. You're doing fantastic, buddy! A lot of people want to get into your business and nit-pick you to pieces about technique...don't listen to them unless they have their own vids posted. I give you 5's. LC
I pick that way because I saw it in an instructional video done by Paul Gilbert.
The video said you should always continue the stroke your on. For example, you pick four notes: up, down, up, down; your next note should be an upstroke when you change strings.
Of course, I'm just a student and I'm trying to learn as much as I can on my own. Thanks for your imput. I do appreciate it.

Mason, I hope some advice I heard from Steve Vai will help you take it to the next level. Bend a single note on a single fret and see how many sounds you can get out of it--harmonics, squeals, scratches, etc. Bend the hell out of it and translate what you're feeling into the bend--happiness, sadness, anger, passion, fear, disgust, joy, etc. Hour a day for several months. Also, put some noise filters in your ears. You don't want to end up with hearing loss and tinnitus.
Due to the 500 word limit, couldn't post everything I wanted. You don't have to do this exercise for an hour or months ... but make sure you feel like you've accomplished something that day.

I wouldn't say you are better, but you're pretty good for your age. It's comparing apples and oranges with "Almost Easy" vs. "Bark at the Moon" though - your piece was short at 57 seconds and done to the actual recording instead of a backing track too, but still good. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, he's young and everybody starts somewhere. It takes a while to get good palm muting style that doens't mess up your picking motion...his newness to guitar playing shows when he thinks it's a worn pick or whatever he said it was. Now you, shreddyfreddy, show us how much youknow about guitar playing and tell us why it's swishing like that. It's called constructive criticism, that's how we learn.
I've played guitar longer than this guy has been alive. I have this album on tape, vinyl, and cd. Don't tell me \i don't know the song because i don't post videos. If you're so smart, you tell me why his palm mutes are all swishy and not right. I know why and I can point you to another of his vids that proves it. so you tell me what's wrong with his playing.

I can't tell if you actually played those runs...because of that odd scraping sound you were getting. Maybe it was that your pick wasn't straight enough mixed with the high levels of distortion.

littlegoobie -- if you don't like what you see here...stop looking! There are plenty of other BATM vids for you to look at. If you have been "playing guitar for longer than this kid's been alive," I'd be curious to see your work...post a video.

Yeah, he's young and everybody starts somewhere. It takes a while to get good palm muting style that doens't mess up your picking motion...his newness to guitar playing shows when he thinks it's a worn pick or whatever he said it was. Now you, shreddyfreddy, show us how much youknow about guitar playing and tell us why it's swishing like that. It's called constructive criticism, that's how we learn.

I've played guitar longer than this guy has been alive. I have this album on tape, vinyl, and cd. Don't tell me \i don't know the song because i don't post videos. If you're so smart, you tell me why his palm mutes are all swishy and not right. I know why and I can point you to another of his vids that proves it. so you tell me what's wrong with his playing.
