Just love this, so beautiful and I think Russell sings it beautifully.I have just listened to Mario Lanza's version on an old 48rpm on youtube and commented at the age of 14 I wanted to be an opera singer and Mario was my idol.Thought he was the best ( as a 14 year old what did I know) but listening to him and the old technology he did sing this song so well.I think both men have their own style but both worthy of praise.I'm 72 now did'nt get to be an opera singer still love to sing.Thank you

This song is sung so beautifully. My 11 year old daughter will be singing this song in early September to celebrate a 50th priesthood anniversary (a very close friend of the family). She sings it beatifully. Please watch for her in early to mid Sep on youtube.

@jrsinger78 When did you sing it at the Heidelberg Castle? I was at a show in 2000 and might have heard you. As I walked around Heidelberg I kept hearing the "Serenade"--lucky for the people around I wasn't singing it as I can't hit the high notes.

I am already on the 3rd albumcd of RW and 2 dvd's yet I don't know that he has his own version of this ML classic. Lanza is Lanza, I had collection of his records and cds that I can lay my hands on, but RW did justice to this song as well.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. I have wonderful memories of Mario Lanza singing this and I learned this on the piano. Don't be concerned with those that do not appreciate fine music. I am with you on this one.

Here I find his singing cheesy. All of it strikes me as very commercial and not heartfelt and I'm just not too keen on that breathy, weak sound he produces in combination with that sliding between notes thing. I also find his vibrato artificial and old fashioned (not in a good way). Also his poor technique makes him pronounce God 'Gaaaad'. I find it odd that nobody had the sense or knowledge to point this out to him. What do you think?
